...have I heard the terms "norks", "tinkly laugh", "naice" bread/ham/area, CF (Cheeky Fucker), LTB (Leave the Bastard) and "get your ducks in a row" (when leaving the bastard!)

What are your 'Only on MN' things?

I have never had a man do that to me

Have you ever been out in public?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/12/2024 08:57

earwiggoagain · 29/12/2024 08:10

My boss actually said he was 'getting his ducks in a row' with regards work, fortunately we were on a teams call and on mute so he couldn't hear my snort of laughter.

Our product manager uses this and jokes deriving from it frequently, and sometimes has a rubber duck as her profile pic.Grin

Whats the rest of your post? Are you suggesting that the word manspreading is unnecessary because it hasn't happened to you or that it doesn't exist because it hasnt happened to you?

2025Y · 29/12/2024 09:00

@wizzler - just for you!

I mentioned it on a thread a year or so ago, can't remember where. But I thought it was the most hilarious and appropriate answer to the OPs question .... tumbleweed.

Was gutted! :)

My 'only on MN' is women being the default sex - lacking other info we tend to assume posters are female.

Which is probably related to a few people whining about 'man hating' whenever there are posts specifically about bad male behaviour.Hmm

GroovyChick87 · 29/12/2024 09:07

Large of nork, ducks in a row, sanpro. Also the hate for scented "sanpro".

Foxingday · 29/12/2024 09:08

‘Unmunsnetty hugs’ for some reason it gives me the real ick.

RaraRachael · 29/12/2024 09:10

All the abbreviations DD. DSD etc I've no idea what half of them mean

Ducks in a row
Use your words
Today years old

Courteous · 29/12/2024 09:16

My American friends uses 'ducks in a row' all the time, long before mumsnet was founded in January 2000.

SinnerBoy · 29/12/2024 09:19

Ducks in a row is business bullshit and didn't originate here.

I heard "boils my piss" long before the internet.

WellOwlBeDamned · 29/12/2024 09:19

@2025Y 😂 that takes me back to another popular image

AmethystRuby · 29/12/2024 09:20

when describing their 'DH' as abusive, controlling, lazy and misogynistic 🤔

Funnywonder · 29/12/2024 09:20

People on here seem to spit out their tea a lot because something is so hilarious.

Telling posters who use the ‘wrong’ terminology that doesn’t fit in with the Mumsnet kick-ass agenda, to fuck off to Netmums. I don’t see it just as much now, but it’s like sanctioned bullying.

And lots of Irish and Scottish posters being criticised for using Americanisms (as if it matters) when the phrases/words in question are perfectly normal and acceptable where they (we!) come from.

Thank you for this: the next time someone asks me how I identify, I will say, "As a man-hating shrew!"

FYI, without the hyphen, 'man hating shrews' is a description of a man who hates shrews. Apologies for the womansplaining.

Brilliant 👍 !

Answering a phone causes some people to have a nervous breakdown.

Just answer the phone, nothing bad is going to happen.

Yes, my boss used to use this term back in the late 90s
It's very good advice for women on here asking for advice about leaving toxic relationships.

cackleandpop · 29/12/2024 09:25

I have never experienced someone asking "are you on glue?" outside of MN.

Doesn't seem to happen quite so often on here now, but still crops up from time to time!

‘Comparison is the thief of joy’.
Only heard on MN.

CarmelaBrunella · 29/12/2024 09:28

It's a predominantly female site. Therefore the usual stereotypes of women will be applied, and of course the whole enterprise has to be belittled. It's easy to mock. It's women!
It has a lot of threads going at any one time, some will be strange, some goady, but some will give women advice which they have sought, whether parenting, relationships or the use of toilet brushes.

Whoarethoseguys · 29/12/2024 09:29

Going no contact from family for the slightest reasons.
Being offended because someone bought you a Christmas present they don't like
Grandparents taking too much/too little interest in their grandchildren

No, I've heard that said in real life.
It's actually a very good point.

I remember it from late 70s , early 80s as glue sniffing was popular amongst some teens.
It was generally used as an insult inferring someone was stupid.
