I know it’s a topic that has been done before.
but what film do you think would not be made now and why?

Carousel, the music is very beautiful but domestic violence as love is not

ObieJoyful · 28/12/2024 22:19

Pretty Woman. I love it because I'm the right age for when it came out, but the actual story is awful. We're meant to be happy she ends up with the guy who thought it was ok to pay for a prostitute for a week.

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 28/12/2024 22:27

I’m not sure The Crying Game would be made now. Can’t say why without spoiling the plot twist.

TheCheeseTax · 28/12/2024 22:28

Not a film but Two and a Half Men.

Had the misfortune to watch an episode earlier this week. Awful.

Sometimeswinning · 28/12/2024 22:32

A carry on film popped up on my tv today. The first few minutes were uncomfortable to watch. Switched over to something more fun!

I wouldn’t ban it though.

Oh some of that was hilarious! Berta!

Charlie calling pest control "I have a flock of seagulls in my house!" <pause> "No, I don't know whatever happened to them!"

literally cried laughing with my flatmate at that. 😂😂

his brother dancing round the bathroom with spray on hair from a can!

agree Pretty Woman and the Crying Game couldn't be made now.

@EmeraldRoulette 2 and a half men is a guilty pleasureGrinI haven't watched it in a while but I used to have the svd collection
Obviously not the Ashton episodes

Diversion · 28/12/2024 22:38

Lolita for obvious reasons. All of the James Bond films with Roger Moore where every single female (apart from Grace Jones) fawns over him with an "oh James". The Carry On films, absolutely awful.

Indiana Jones and the temple of doom

hadn’t seen it before
started watching it with ds over Christmas
turned it off after half an hour. I hadn’t been able to go more than a few mins at once, without explaining why something said in the film was “not okay”.

everywhichway · 28/12/2024 22:40

All those old Westerns, that depicted native American people as a bunch of Red Indian savages.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It’s such an enjoyable spectacle to watch but any kind of critical thinking renders it very problematic indeed.

Yes I stopped watching then

it was okay initially and the scene with Alan falling apart over Charlie's passing actually made me cry! But it had gone on a long time by then.

I might have forgotten stuff but why that one? I thought it was excellent. Bloody hard to watch but excellent.
