Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to this Christmas Eve?

As always on days off, I'm starting my day with my cuppa, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & are mooching about the kitchen atm. There's no noise at all from the girls so I'll check they're awake in a mo.

We're off for our usual Christmas Eve walk into town to the market, for our veg and visit to the cheese monger, and stop off for a coffee somewhere.

We'll get the bus home & should be back around midday ish to prep tomorrow's Christmas dinner and nip for a bottle of wine for me. We probably need milk too.

Tonight's tea will be something quick & easy, followed by gingerbread house for afters 😋

Then showers all round, and relax for the evening 😊

What about all of you? 🎅

Working!

plominoagain · 24/12/2024 07:27

Today is our Christmas Day as both me and my daughter are working tomorrow. So am in bed savouring the last moments of peace before the chaos starts and everyone starts turning up !

Sanch1 · 24/12/2024 07:29

Pretending to work! Not much going on though so shouldn't be too hard.

DD1 and I are going out, her biking, me running.

Then I need to go to the fish shop and see if our tank water is ok, hoping to get some new fish. It's a new tank I got for my birthday so it's a bit hit and miss with it all at the moment. Will also run around to PILs with the deserts I've made for tomorrow.

While I do that the kids will help DH make croissants.

Church nativity/carols at 4 then SILs for dinner and a few drinks before home for bed!

I'm also awake drinking a cuppa and being more excited than the children 😁

We've got some friends coming for coffee and cake this morning, then Christingle this afternoon and bundling the children into bed early so we can do some last minute wrapping.

In between will do some veg prep and get the wine and fizz in the fridge for tomorrow

BrunchBarBandit · 24/12/2024 07:30

Between DH and I: Finish wrapping, last vacuum through, make up guest beds, make veggie options for tomorrow and prep the veg. Dinner tonight will be casserole and then films with the kids

GameOfJones · 24/12/2024 07:31

Morning @lucysmam . I'm currently in bed as DH got up with DDs. I'm supposed to be sleeping in but am awake so am messing about on my phone instead and enjoying some quiet.

We're walking into town too this morning. Mainly just to get some fresh air and tire DDs out a bit. We'll stop at a café for a hot chocolate and have a mooch unless places are really busy.

Then we're meeting friends at the pub this afternoon for a couple of drinks which is our Christmas Eve tradition.

Home and I'm planning on just snacking on cheese and crackers for dinner. We'll try and wrangle overexcited children into bed and then it's presents out, stockings filled and mince pie and carrot nibbled. Then DH and I will have a Baileys, congratulate ourselves and try to get an early night before the madness of tomorrow.

Mumdiva99 · 24/12/2024 07:32

Your day sounds lovely and relaxed. How old are your girls that they are getting up already?
I'm in bed after an awful night's sleep as I have tonsillitis. Fortunately at the moment I don't feel ill with it - just sore throat. So I am praying it resolves itself in a few days. (Never happened before usually I need ABs but seeing a doc today is unlikely!! - I'm not an abuser of abuse in fact I think last dose was 17 years ago....but when I was younger I suffered lots with tonsillitis so know the feeling).

Anyhow I digress.....my eldest turns 17 today and has told me not to wake him. So I am off to the shops to get MiL some flowers. Then back to clean house and peel veg for boxing day. (We are driving long way to inlaws tomorrow and hosting my family boxing day).
Later I am taking the kids and a homemade lasagne to my parents for birthday tea. We will play a game. And back for an early night due to the drive tomorrow.
I'm sure I have another big job.....oh yes wrapping presents.

Oh, maybe we should take the gingerbread house to my parents and eat that.....although we have lots of gingerbread biscuits to eat too.

MuthaHubbard · 24/12/2024 07:32

Finish work at lunchtime. Have family over at 4 for a bit of a buffet/present swap so will be last of prep for that. Need to pick up sandwich platter and some Christmas Eve cookies.
Once family gone, me and DH will have a glass of fizz and watch the rest of Gavin and Stacey (we have been rewatching ahead of the Xmas special tomorrow)

InMySpareTime · 24/12/2024 07:32

In charge of 3 Christingle services today, giving out 750 Christingles over 3 services.
Will call takeaway towards the end of the last service and collect it on the way home.
Watch Muppet Christmas Carol and then I actually don't have to do anything until next year. DH and DS sort out Christmas dinner so I can play jigsaws all day.

DustyLee123 · 24/12/2024 07:34

I’m off to the gym to spin, to make me feel better about all the food I will eat tomorrow!
A good walk for the dog to pass some time, prep the veg, and a bottle of fizz with an Xmas film.

Noras · 24/12/2024 07:34

Well I’m very happy to have found work so I will be working and perfectly ok about that. There are a few things I need to do before Christmas and want to get sent off.

Also I have the joys of reviewing my tax return and sorting out a payment.

My daughter and son are revising so frankly it’s a dull Christmas but the good thing is that I have had no need to go rushing around as they are getting one present each and we are doing minimum catering, So it’s been Christmas on the cheap.

My son will drop off some whisky to his tutor as a thank you.

leia24 · 24/12/2024 07:34

Teenage daughter has her final performance in pantomime today- she dances and has had the best December on stage every day but I'm so ready for the constant driving to be over 🤣.
So she's already been in my room to announce multiple news broadcasts including how sad she is that her advent calendar is finished, and how she thinks Mcdonalds breakfast would be a great final show celebration.
This morning I'll run her to the theatre at about 11 and then I need to go and pick up a parcel at Boots.. then I will pack the car because once she's finished, we will come home so she can remove stage hair and makeup and then get in the car and travel to Wales to stay with my family until 27th.

Alisonjayne8 · 24/12/2024 07:34

Currently waiting for the dentist to open as my crown fell out last night, it's a front tooth!

MinnieMountain · 24/12/2024 07:35

I’ve fed our increasingly fussy elderly cat. DS is gaming. DH is asleep.

We need to do a bit of tidying and food prep this morning. I’m sending DS to MIL’s with the smoked salmon and tinned asparagus so she can make the starters to bring tomorrow (she was unable to find those herself 🙄).

We’re meeting PILs in the pub at 2pm. Then DH, DS and I will go home for takeaway and a film.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 24/12/2024 07:35

Panto this morning, then out for lunch, then aquarium (Christmas tradition is really quiet and they play lovely choral music today) then crib service, then home for supper.

I'll prep the turkey tonight so it can go straight in the oven in the morning.

Mumdiva99 · 24/12/2024 07:35

@inmysparetime 750 christingles!!! Are you making them during the services?

What jigsaw do you have for tomorrow?

@muthahubbard I've also rewatched all the Gavin and Sracy, although am going to avoid social media until I watch rhe new one on 27th.

Chocolaterocketcake · 24/12/2024 07:36

I always watch these threads but never contribute! I was up with teething 10 month old from 1am-4am then both my boys were up at 5.30am. DH had them while I had an extra 20mins but he had to leave for work at 6.15am.

So I’m currently sitting on sofa with a coffee, 3yo watching tv, 10 month old now full of beans and crawling around the room.

I have a parcel to collect today, and a prescription, motivation to get ready and go out is rock bottom at the moment though!

kikisparks · 24/12/2024 07:36

Peggimmytchell · 24/12/2024 07:24

Working!

Same. Not sure if we’ll get away early but finishing time is 4pm.

Fargo79 · 24/12/2024 07:37

This morning I'll be prepping veg and cooking a couple of the Christmas dinner sides. Then I'll finish the wrapping. DH is still working but he will hopefully be done by lunchtime.

This afternoon we're off to the nativity service and then we'll deliver some gifts to family and friends on the way home.

Then tonight we're having a takeaway and will watch a Christmas movie with the children. Then it's baths and bedtime for them - hopefully straight to sleep 🤞

BitOutOfPractice · 24/12/2024 07:39

Good morning Christmas Evers!

im going to make a dessert for tomorrow, then pootle into work (via M&S for stuff for tomorrows breakfast) for an hour or so. I have a session with my PT booked at 4. Then I’ll be home, pyjamas on, for the traditional Christmas Eve Chinese takeaway.

Starryknightcloud · 24/12/2024 07:39

Nursery opened 7 mins ago but my 3 year old is flat out still. Once I get them there it's xmas dinner prep and 1 present left to wrap.
Christingle after pick up and Indian takeaway tonight

InMySpareTime · 24/12/2024 07:39

@Mumdiva99 we made them all yesterday as a production line with about 50 volunteers and even that took 2 hours. No way we could construct them in a 45 minute service.
Each year it's a tension between how many people we can wedge into the church and the risk of children with sugar, sticks and fire.

almondflake · 24/12/2024 07:40

Currently sat in bed having a brew after being woken up by a very excited husband wondering how early he can go shopping with our daughter for Christmas shopping .
Going to get dressed then make up the bed in the spare room for my mum who I'm collecting later to spend her first Christmas with us ,she's only ever come over for Christmas Day before .
Then we'll see what the day brings . my eldest daughter and granddaughter moved in with us a couple of months ago ,she's working from home this morning, granddaughter is with her step sisters today at her dads so we're missing her .
Maybe a few drinks later and a Christmas film ,husband will be finishing off last nights curry with a few beers while watching 80s music videos in the other room while getting lunch ready for tomorrow .
In all a pretty good time I think

DelilahBucket · 24/12/2024 07:41

Not in the best of moods after being woken at 5:45am by DH snoring, AGAIN! I'm so tired 😴. Just debating about jumping in the shower, got to go to the butchers and grab last minute bits from the supermarket. DH has a follow appointment from his nose surgery, the irony when his snoring has suddenly started up again over the last few weeks. His surgery was nearly two years ago and this appointment should have taken place within six months.
Got presents to wrap this afternoon and washing to sort and then we're off the local pub for dinner this evening.
Merry Christmas Eve MNers!

delphinedupont · 24/12/2024 07:41

I’ve woken up with a cold which I could feel brewing so I’m going to try and ignore that. DH will be prepping the lunch for tomorrow. Me and ds2 are off to the panto this morning with my mum, grandma mil and sil. All the men of the family out for a drink while we’re there. After panto we’ve got a lovely lunch booked. Then home for gingerbread house decorating, Christmas film and brownie making for tomorrows dessert. Now if could just muster the energy to get my arse out of bed…
