Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to this Christmas Eve?

As always on days off, I'm starting my day with my cuppa, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & are mooching about the kitchen atm. There's no noise at all from the girls so I'll check they're awake in a mo.

We're off for our usual Christmas Eve walk into town to the market, for our veg and visit to the cheese monger, and stop off for a coffee somewhere.

We'll get the bus home & should be back around midday ish to prep tomorrow's Christmas dinner and nip for a bottle of wine for me. We probably need milk too.

Tonight's tea will be something quick & easy, followed by gingerbread house for afters 😋

Then showers all round, and relax for the evening 😊

What about all of you? 🎅

My Christmas Eve plans involve doing the final preparations with my family, such as getting the Christmas dinner ready, wrapping gifts, or decorating the Christmas tree. We'll also attend Christmas Mass, and then head home to enjoy a delicious dinner. In the evening, I'll gather with friends and family to play games, watch movies, or indulge in Christmas treats like candies and gingerbread.

@Mumdiva99 it’s a lovely jigsaw this year, called "home for Christmas"

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to this Christmas Eve?
twistyizzy · 24/12/2024 07:43

Picked up M+S order at 7am and all put away so just heading off to do the horses then back for a general clean up and tidy of the house.
12pm DD are doing our yearly dog walk + hot chocolate Xmas eve routine. DH will get home around 2pm and then we are off to the in-laws for a meal.
All jobs have been done so today can be a lovely chilled day 😌

Driving for about 6 hours to get dd I've woke up with a headache ffs

GetDownkeith · 24/12/2024 07:44

I’m lying in bed enjoying the peace. My dc are 14,18 and 21 so no child activities today.
will do a final clean round, pop out for wine and a couple of last bits.

My parents are coming over this evening to exchange gifts, they like the quiet day tomorrow at home, and dh and I will do a little buffet and we have some drinks then it’s into our new Christmas pyjamas.
I have been running about since I finished work on Friday so that today can be quite slow paced with most things done.

BlackChunkyBoots · 24/12/2024 07:46

Luckily I have this week off, and am staying with family. I think Mum wants to take me out for lunch in town. I also need something for breakfast because my parents don't have much for me in the cupboards (they never do!) so I'm off to the village shop imminently. I do need the exercise.

AceofPentacles · 24/12/2024 07:48

I'm on annual leave today as it's DS' birthday but I will have to visit a young person this morning as I suspect they have psychosis.
Then will come back and do birthday lunch, walk dog and swap presents with my cousin.
Maybe have a vodka and watch Brassic this evening.

Good morning, christmas is celebrated today here, I’ve done the early food shift 3-6:30 so I’m now done for the today, the first guests will start arriving at the gurdwara from about 8:30ish. We’ve all been late up for the last few days so the kids are still in bed, so we’re enjoying the peace while it lasts, well almost, I’m on our balcony terrace thing outside and I can hear my mum snoring!

My husband is watching videos of his next husband, Luigi Mangione (!), I think he may be somewhat upset in the coming weeks…

When everyones up later we’ll do some presents, go out for a bit (son has a new bike he has been begging for), then I’ll pick up my husbands grandma, the 36 thousand tubs of food she has made and his little brother. If I time this right I’ll dodge cleaning away all the wrapping paper and bits of box from new toys.

Have a nice day everyone.

Going to see my Mum in her nursing home this morning... she's been in there 3 years following a massive stroke. Never gets any easier. Then walking the dog and then home to cook the Christmas ham. Our traditional Dominos Christmas Eve dinner 😂 then a few episodes of Better Call Saul lol.

Kids are all grown up now and with Mum in her home and Dad died 5 years ago our Christmases are a lot different to what they were years ago. Much calmer and quieter which on one hand is lovely but sometimes I yearn for the chaos of years gone by when we would have my parents and they would inevitably drive me a little bit crazy, excited kids underfoot, getting stressed in the kitchen, "don't eat that it's for Christmas!"... all of it ❤️

OurChristmasMiracle · 24/12/2024 07:51

Work then I need to go home. Tidy up. Gingerbread cookies to make for Santa. Magic key under doormat. Bath for little
one then bed. Need to put out all the presents and still have some to wrap. Then it’s bed time for me

DeathMetalMum · 24/12/2024 07:52

I have woken up with a cold, but I'm not in work after a crazy day yesterday.

Dd's were up early this morning. I could hear them awake when the cat headbutted me awake just after 6.30 (our normal waking time for school etc). They are 11&13 so don't really need any input from me on the morning. I am forcing them out for a short walk to local shops for a few bits this morning to take up some time. We will walk the long way home.

The rest of the day we will play some mario kart/watch some Christmas films. Dd2 is incredibly excited, so we need to keep her busy so maybe some baking this afternoon. We will have some hot chocolate at some point today too. I am making pizza for dinner, as dp will be doing dinner tomorrow.

This evening they will go and watch some things on tv in their room while dp and I do the last of the wrapping. Whilst watching a film.

violetcuriosity · 24/12/2024 07:53

Cooking this morning with DD1- mince pies, sausages rolls and the ham. Head up to the pub for a couple of glasses of Prosecco then over to my parents for beef wellington dinner. Hoping to be home by 7 to put out Santa's plate and the stockings and all have an early night. DD2 has been really poorly and is on abx so needs an early night.

LadyoftheCheeses · 24/12/2024 07:55

Working! Luckily I WFH and my boss has basically said 9-1 is fine (usually 8-4) providing my work is completed but as we work with schools, it's pretty much all done now as everyone has finished for the holidays.

DD is at her dads tonight until tomorrow evening so DP and I are going for drinks with his parents, and I still have all of the presents to wrap as we decided to move house over Christmas so I've not had time! Luckily I get an extra day as we are doing Christmas Day on Boxing Day when DD is home!

Merry Christmas all 🎄

CalicoPusscat · 24/12/2024 07:55

Happy Xmas eve everyone.

Doing last minute food shopping today :)

ChaosHol1 · 24/12/2024 07:55

Cup of tea, wfh 8.45 to 5. Dh is going to do a clean then go do some bits. Need more gift bags and want a new dinner set. Then we are out for dinner tonight, us, our children and my dad and stepmum then wel come back and play some board games and have a few drinks.

RockAndRollerskate · 24/12/2024 07:56

Watching my 3&4 year old play together with a play doh ice cream van (early present from in laws).

Off to my lovely sisters later for a little get together and back home for a walk and early night

PrioritisePleasure24 · 24/12/2024 07:56

Just about to start work. Xmas day off though and then boxing day back in.

Walikingdeadfan · 24/12/2024 07:56

Morning all, I went out to bakery at 6.30am to get gingerbread man that DS asked santa for. Also picked up salmon and croissants which were missing from yesterday's delivery. So now chilling with a second coffee - kids are sleeping and DH is gaming.

Cleaner is coming later so need to get kids out her way, probably just to local park.

Then this afternoon make sticky toffee pudding and bread sauce.

BG2015 · 24/12/2024 07:57

Awake but DP has just brought me a tea in bed. Need to getup now.

Going for a routine bone density scan at 10.30am. Need to get some fresh bread rolls too whilst I'm out.

Then home to prep for our Christmas dinner which we are having this evening, just 6 of us (2 DS and their girlfriends.) tomorrow we have another 6 guests (parents, brother & family) but can't fit them in our small house now we have downsized so we're having a Christmas buffet.

Judgejudysno1fan · 24/12/2024 07:58

We don't celebrate Christmas (muslim) so instead I'm having a deep clean and organise the house and roping the teens in. I wantnto do about 5 loads of laundry today as well.

I got a very nice chicken and veg pie delivered this morning so I will make that for dinner with roast spuds and Yorkshire puddings and a glass of ice cold Pepsi.

Also need to sort through my stock, I have a home business selling from a wholesalers. Love it but thousands of items to sort through before boxing day as I want to host a sale before end of holidays.

I've finished homeschooling one of my children after 3 years, and they'll be going into school in January so I'm also spending every day cramming in as much as i can , reading non stop and writing non stop and basic maths with them so they're ready. We are both excited and nervous. They are primary age. I've really loved it. But I only said I'd do it for the first 3 years of infants school. And I'm keeping all my Material and youtube videos I made to home school the younger 2 children.

Have a lovely holidays everyone

TheDotMatriX · 24/12/2024 07:59

Working this morning but hopefully finish at lunchtime. Last minute wrapping and sorting guest room, final hoover. Prepping the veg for tomorrow, making cranberry sauce.

Once all the work is done, I’ve got a little Xmas Eve box for the children, we’ll grab a Chinese takeaway, a Christmas film and a well earned drink.

Later kids have new pyjamas (I’ve also got pjs for DH, DGuest and myself as a secret to give).

thursday22august · 24/12/2024 08:00

Watching Christmas films with popcorn and hot chocolate in the day. As soon as it's dark enough we'll go for a walk and look at Christmas lights on houses. Me and DH always have turkey fajitas for tea (kids have pasta) on Christmas Eve. After tea the kids will have a bath, we'll put out Santa's treats and then watch Christmas Bluey episodes before bed

Ohmych · 24/12/2024 08:01

Waiting for Dd to come down and open her Xmas eve box. Dp is in work. Doing some cleaning and then spending the rest of the day visiting 3 different people to swap presents. Some takeaway of some sort later. We normally have a meal out but Dp is working until god knows when today so can't book anything. Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas Eve.

Soniastrumpet1984 · 24/12/2024 08:02

Not to bring the thread down but I'm feeling a little sad. Only me and my sibling today, both single, no parents. I'm volunteering this morning and then sibling is arriving. We get on great, like best friends, but my grief weighs heavy this time of year

TribulationPeriwinkle · 24/12/2024 08:02

Everyone’s days sound so festive!
I’m still in bed, nursing my coffee. No noises from DD’s room yet. DP is pottering.
A quiet day here. I’ll nip to M&S to collect our order plus a few other bits - am hoping it won’t be too insane. Also need to get some batteries for one of DD’s presents, and wrap DP’s and my dad’s stuff.
Am hoping DP will take DD to the park so she can burn off some energy while I do a bit of last-minute cleaning and sorting.
Not sure what we’ll eat today. Maybe a takeaway at some point. Hmm…
