As always on days off, I'm starting my day with my cuppa, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & are mooching about the kitchen atm. There's no noise at all from the girls so I'll check they're awake in a mo.

We're off for our usual Christmas Eve walk into town to the market, for our veg and visit to the cheese monger, and stop off for a coffee somewhere.

We'll get the bus home & should be back around midday ish to prep tomorrow's Christmas dinner and nip for a bottle of wine for me. We probably need milk too.

Tonight's tea will be something quick & easy, followed by gingerbread house for afters 😋

Then showers all round, and relax for the evening 😊

What about all of you? 🎅

Happy Xmas eve everyone.

im showered and dressed sitting with a cuppa while the teens get ready (19 and 15), I’ve got a wash on and dh is out for a walk, trying to walk off a bad back!

DH and ds are getting their hair cut at 10am, then we’ll head out somewhere for a cuppa. Pop in and see MIL and Bil as he’s visiting today.

then I need to call in on my mum, she’s got the turkey for tomorrow and some extra plates and glasses.

im hosting tomorrow so this afternoon will be dinner prep and cleaning and ironing. DH does his share though so it’s not all on me.

then wine, takeaway and Xmas movie before teens are sent to their rooms so Santa can come 🤣

have a good day everyone 🎄

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I've been to Tesco and got everything I need. It's not much because I'll be going to my dd tomorrow. However, no queues and helpful and friendly staff made a difference. Shortly I need to go to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription. Then a quick visit to the garden centre for plant gifts which I'll then deliver. I'll probably take my brother's present to him too. This afternoon will alternate between housework and naps as I had a rotten night's sleep. A merry Christmas to you all

How did you find Tesco at this hour?

DAndreBarksdale · 24/12/2024 08:58

Morning All! Nice lazy morning so far with DD. Patè on toast for breakfast- very festive! Now going to get dressed and walk down to Sainsbury’s to get the last few bits for a dessert we are making.
we have a nice coastal walk and some piping hot cheap on the seafront this afternoon with DSis and the cousins.
This evening we will be stopping by the in-laws where the naughty elves have left the Christmas Eve box before having scampi (and chips again!) for dinner.

Morning all
Yesterday we done the Xmas food shop, I also cleared all the washing and cleaned and tidied house, sorted the hamster.
So feeling pleased I got them things out the way.
Today I will cook the gammon and prep all the veg ready for tomorrow.
I am still waiting for a few parcels so unsure if they will turn up today or not.
I also need to sort the xmas tree out as the kitten managed to knock the whole tree over, my lovely new felt tree decoration of a cat has been beaten up and looks like someone has put it in a blender. So looks like the kitten has had a great night playing.
Both DC are still asleep,
When I've finished all my things I will get a bath and hair wash and clean pyjamas on.
Then we are putting out all the lovely Xmas snacky food.
I will do a mini buffet for us later for dinner.
We are going to watch a film
Then will be putting out milk and a cookie for Santa

Latenightreader · 24/12/2024 09:02

I have to take a sputum sample to the Dr for Mum (Christmas glamour!), home to prep veg, and tear the house apart looking for the missing bag of presents... I was up until 2am looking and I even went through the recycling bin this morning!

Goldenmemories · 24/12/2024 09:04

I'm going through a divorce but am happy today because I've got the kids today and tomorrow ☺️ been out for a run when they were still in bed. Now baking cinnamon swirls for breakfast and we're going to the theatre later, coming home to watch muppets Christmas carol, making a gingerbread house then party food for dinner! Have a great day everyone 😀

ChronicallySleepy · 24/12/2024 09:06

I was planning on going to IKEA to get some storage boxes which we will need as the kids have got Lego blocks & other similar toys for Christmas but I looked online and they're shut today.

Need to collect my prescription from Boots, will see if I can get any other gifts for DH, I feel bad that he's only got one gift under the tree, he says I don't need to get anything because I got him a very expensive gift only about a month ago but I want him to have some things to open Christmas morning.

I'll be preparing stuff for tomorrow, haven't seen the Christmas tablecloth since last year so I'll have to hunt around for that, also going to peel some veg and prep any bits I can to make it easier in the morning.

Guaranteed to have forgotten something and I'll be rushing around like an idiot later on.

LoudPlumDog · 24/12/2024 09:07

OP, do your kittens have names yet? What is Lucy’s sister called? Just wondering…

DelilahBucket · 24/12/2024 09:11

Wow I was in and out of Sainsbury's in under ten minutes for the missing items shop! Everything fully stocked and really quiet.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/12/2024 09:12

A quick shop for veg and ice cream (for Gdcs tomorrow) plus I’ll probably make more mince pies - pastry ready in fridge. Cooking the gammon. Apart from that, all done - I don’t think I’ve ever been so organised. Carols from Kings later, with mulled wine. 🎅🏻🎄🍷.

Taytocrisps · 24/12/2024 09:13

Morning @lucysmam and all the regulars. Wishing you all a very merry Christmas.

Just lying on the sofa, having a quick cuppa. DCats have had their breakfast.

Adult DD has chosen her Christmas jumper to wear to work - a very important choice which required my input.

I've to go to the local shop for bread, milk and trifle. Then hit the big town for a last present - it's a gift card, so I don't have to worry about it selling out.

I want to wash some towels - DD goes through towels like I don't know what, and I want to ensure there's enough towels for guests on the 26th.

I've to hoover my bedroom (it will be a guest bedroom over Christmas) and clean the en-suite bathroom. I was supposed to do this yesterday, but I had to drop DD to work for 7, attend a funeral, and then do the big shop, so I ran out of energy and inclination.

Then give the kitchen a quick once over.

Dinner is already cooked from yesterday (Irish stew), so I just need to boil a few potatoes to go with it.

I also want to assemble DD's stocking fillers - they're in assorted places, so I want to put them all together in one bag, for easy access later.

I want everything done and dusted by 5.30. I'll collect DD from work at 6. Then we'll veg. in front of the TV with wine and cheese and watch a movie and festive TV.

Crunchymum · 24/12/2024 09:16

Merry Christmas Eve @lucysmam and everyone.

I'm working until 3pm (I WFH so not a massive problem although I'd prefer not to have to log on)

Sainsburys will be here soon but I've already had to go out as they didn't have the pigs in blankets.

Just bathing the girls and sorting thier hair then the kids are off to the inlaws for the morning and I'll join them when I finish work.

We'll be home about 5ish, there'll be takeaway pizza and we are going to attack our gingerbread house too.

Scrooged is the film tonight and then DP and I will probably watch National Lampoons whilst we wait for kids to fall asleep.

Need to make some cookies for Santa at some point too, or else he can just have gingerbread 😅

Eggsley · 24/12/2024 09:16

Good morning everyone! I was meant to be at work this morning but they have given everyone the day off, which is lovely.

Had a bit of a lie in compared to usual, just having tea and toast and then off to get haircuts for DSs. Then taking my car to be cleaned, got to pop in to Tesco for some last minute bits, Subway for lunch, over to my parents to drop off presents and have a cuppa and maybe a cake, then home to chill. Hopefully we'll watch a Christmas film. Presents are all wrapped, so just need to get them out later and then an early-ish night.

We are at home tomorrow just the 4 of us, so hopefully it will be a nice relaxing day. Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas Eve.

CoastalCalm · 24/12/2024 09:17

Just had a nice bath well a half bath so as not to wet my wound dressings

Heading off for usual present drop off and visit to MIL and my family an hour away soon via Fish Market to pick up seafood platter for tonight.

Got a couple of bits to get at the supermarket - excitement of being able to visit the big Sainsbury’s is real here !

Then heading home to make some sausage rolls and prep a few bits for tomorrow , Mum is coming to stay tonight so should be a nice chilled evening

BottomlessBrunch · 24/12/2024 09:19

Had a lie in and only just heard the youngest get up!

Will get up now and give her some breakfast. Pop last wash on, get ready myself then me and 2 DC are going to the beach with whole family for a walk (nieces and nephews are all young and will be off the scale excited).

Home for lunch - bagels, cream cheese and salmon.
Mass wrapping for a couple of hours then going to a couple of local pubs with the kids to meet friends.

Home for buffet in front of home alone and eldest dd and I will watch love actually once youngest is in bed and then it'll be me laying everything out ready till probably midnight.

wejammin · 24/12/2024 09:22

Good morning and merry Christmas!

Feeling a bit discombobulated this Christmas Eve, and very disorganised. DH is ill, he's got a horrid cough so hasn't been able to help with much so I was wrapping until gone midnight last night.
DCS(6) has an ENT appointment in a couple of hours, I'll take DD(10) with us and we'll go for hot chocolate afterwards. DS(12) is still in bed and/or gaming.
I need to wrap DH's gifts and the kids need to decorate some baubles for grandparents this afternoon. Got some buffet stuff in for tea and we'll watch a movie, then new PJs and bed so I can wrap the Santa presents and fill the stockings.
House is a total mess but I don't think I have time to sort it.

Lots of you sound like you're having lovely days with family and friends 😊

devildeepbluesea · 24/12/2024 09:22

Morning gang!

I’ve walked the dog, now just about to go into the gym.

today I’m cooking meat and making bubble and squeak - we’re skipping the roast and going straight to the buffet tomorrow.

Then DD will come over, as will ExDH and DSS. DSS is vegan so I’m making a chickpea and coconut curry for us all, then the boys will go home and DD and I will have an early night,

I will also need a nana nap as I’m hungover from a night out with friends.

Decafflatteplease · 24/12/2024 09:24

Morning @lucysmam and all.

Christmas eve is one of my favourite days of the year, there's definitely a magic in the air!

I've been up for a while, gammon is in the slow cooker for tonight and tomorrow, I'm just about to make sausage rolls to take to MILs Christmas eve buffet. DH is getting the DC dressed etc. I need to find my dress I want to wear should have been organised yesterday tbh!

After MILs it's christingle at church. Love this service. There's a moment where we gather round the altar/crib in a (big) circle, the lights are off and everyone stand in the silence just with our candles. It's a moment of peace in the chaos and it's hauntingly beautiful.

Home for the beautiful chaos of getting ready for Santa. Obvs my teens don't believe but they pretend for the little ones! Try to get little ones to sleep handy so DH and I can collapse on the couch, with carols from kings and a port. We always stay up until midnight to wish each other merry Christmas in the quiet.

Have a lovely day all!

SecretWitch · 24/12/2024 09:25

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

It's just 4:21 here in Indiana, USA. I haven't even gone to bed yet. My Dh works the overnight shift and I keep to his schedule. Once he is home at 7, we will sleep until early afternoon.

It's just the two of us, so we will go into town for coffee and a little drive. Home for steak and baked potatoes. We plan to watch Home Alone 1 and 2, A Christmas Story and wind up with A Christmas Carol. So a nice chilled couple of days...

Heboughtmeadishwasherandcoffeeperculator · 24/12/2024 09:30

I love these threads on a normal day so a Christmas Eve one feels very special!!

3 teenage DD’s still sleeping (or pretending to!) For our sins we still do a North Pole breakfast so I’m just about to prep for that, the dining room is ready but need to start faffing with strawberries and choc chips (Santa faces) and but enjoying a cup of tea first.

DH has nipped out to do the horses and will be back shortly and we will wake the girls up with “Santa Clause is coming to town”

I am feeling very organised this year and did the last of the food shop and clean yesterday so today can be filled with nice things. I think the plan is dog walk down to the beach with flasks of mulled wine, making mince meat pies, a Christmas movie and few logs on the fire this afternoon then a Chinese tonight before the girls get banished upstairs and “Santa comes”

Oh and the girls are definitely doing their own horses tonight this afternoon!!!

I hope everyone has a magical day

myladyjane · 24/12/2024 09:30

I am lying in bed having a cup of tea lovingly made by dh (who was not in any way coerced by me prodding him and repeating santas elf needs her tea - I am 50, he is 55)

Wander down to town to pick up bird and have a coffee then back to make a late ish lunch - they want a chicken roast apparently albeit a basic one. Will do a bit of veg prep at the same time.

Dd has a cheesecake to make. Other dd has a book to finish before she gets eleventy billion new ones tomorrow.

DM will arrive for lunch so feed her, get her settled. Dd 2 and I are then taking her for a stroll in the dark to look at some pretty lights.

Home for some tv, snack-y tea if anyone's hungry, baileys/snow balls etc. then bed as santas elf needs her rest.

VelvetWildflower · 24/12/2024 09:32

DH has just gone to brave the fight in Tesco for some last minute bits we need to replace. God speed to him.

Once he's back I'm going to do a once over of the house, shower and wash my hair and then wake the teenagers up to do the same. Teens have some last minute wrapping to do (for each other) so I'll prep the veg while the baby naps. Planning on cooking one of the ham joints today too & get my list sorted for dinner tomorrow.

DH needs a nap as he's been up since 5am so he'll go up about 2 and I'm going to put a cheesy Hallmark movie on while the baby has his longer afternoon nap. My dad is coming round later to give the kids their presents but he's useless at communication so all I've got right now is 'this afternoon when I finish work'. That could be anywhere from 3-5pm.

Going to have a big glass of Baileys tonight after the baby's bath and finish off our teen tradition of Midnight Christmas (we exchange presents at midnight so we can have a lie in on Christmas Day) as now we have a 7 month old baby so as of next year we're going to be all about 6am excited wake up calls and Santa again.

slightlydistrac · 24/12/2024 09:32

Morning all. I'm currently simmering a joint of gammon on the stove, and will be making some apricot and chestnut stuffing shortly.

Then I have to go to the blasted supermarket because DH, in his wisdom, has decided to go off and do a couple of hours work instead of going to the shop first. By the time he gets back the chances of there being any milk, cream, bread and green salad left will be nil. He could have shopped first, but oh no. 😠I wouldn't mind, but I've been fighting off the flu since last Friday and feel utterly wiped out. I really didn't want to cough and sniffle my way round Morrisons this morning.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 24/12/2024 09:34

Good morning.
I'm in bed having a coffee.
My jobs for today are to do some cooking prep ready for tomorrow and tidy up.

Timble · 24/12/2024 09:38

Taking the dog out and collecting bits from the shops we’ve ordered. My dd’s are grown so we’re going out for a meal and cocktails this afternoon and then a Xmas movie tonight.
