In hospital for Christmas - anyone keep me company?

I'm in hospital at the moment (mental health unit) and will be here over Christmas. I won't see family and I'm feeling pretty fed up and lonely right now. Hoping someone may be up for keeping me company with some distracting chit chat?!

Ah sorry to hear that @BiodegradableCutlery

Do you have anything to keep you occupied? A book, puzzle, crosswords?

I hope you're on the mend, feeling better soon and have a Merry Christmas x

I'm here OP. Sorry to hear about your situation but I hope you're safe and being looked after.

TwinkleLights24 · 23/12/2024 14:07

I hope you have a lovely day.

Redkatagain · 23/12/2024 14:41

What sort of chatter would help?

Redkatagain · 23/12/2024 14:42

I'm on Mumsnet in hospital myself visiting someone who is asleep.

BiodegradableCutlery · 23/12/2024 15:00

Thanks for the replies.

@TotallyAddictedToCoffee I have got a jigsaw on the go, a puzzle book and some shows downloaded on my tablet but limited attention span. I've been sleeping a lot truth be told.

@Redkatagain sorry to hear you have a sick loved one. Any chat is good! What are people's plans for Christmas? Presents most looking forward to giving?

Christmas jigsaw always good! Ours last year lasted til February - we just couldn't finish it 😁

Redkatagain · 23/12/2024 15:23

The presents are wrapped. DH has declared a need to go shopping but is sat here in the hospital with me and his Mum.
He will decide to go shopping no earlier than 6pm

Turkey is out of the freezer.

Will have to address the sprouts later. Don't want to

Redkatagain · 23/12/2024 15:26

It's his Mum in hospital. He is forgiven.

ClioMuse · 23/12/2024 15:27

Bio are the nurses pleasant to you? Hope you're doing okay 💐

TouchoftheTism · 23/12/2024 15:28

You have my sympathy. I hope its not too hectic in there as I know they can be strange places. Have you made any acquaintances in there?

Ah fair enough. Sorry to hear your MIL is unwell. 💐

Normallynumb · 23/12/2024 15:35

I'm sorry to hear you're unwell
I've been in a few times myself and they can be noisy and chaotic.
Can you concentrate on a book?
Not sure if the WiFi is good enough but could you download the Calm app or similar to " escape" for a while
I always kept a journal to write my thoughts down to see how I'd progressed, which may help.
I am trapped under my sleeping dog at the moment, and you know the saying" let sleeping dogs lie"? I certainly am!
Warmest wishes for your recovery.

Sorry to hear you’re stuck in there and hope that there are some bright moments. Just bought my sil a Van Gogh jigsaw which she’ll be obsessed with. Think it’s called Starry Nights. I wish I had the patience. Am trying to get into a new book by Alan Bennett. Hope you’re ok.

TouchoftheTism · 23/12/2024 15:45

Is there anything to do in there? In my experience there was a scrabble and precious little else.

HellofromJohnCraven · 23/12/2024 15:53

Can you find a podcast or audio book to have on in the background? I find this much less effort than watching something and can be soothing if you can find one with the right voice. Nothing too worthy or improving though!

HellofromJohnCraven · 23/12/2024 15:55

I am pretending to work from home today but struggling a bit myself at the moment, so am being kind to myself ( doesn't come naturally)

Sprig1 · 23/12/2024 16:06

Oh, what a shame that will be there for Christmas. Do you like animals? I braved our local town today to buy some tinsel (more challenging than expected, I eventually found some in a charity shop) so that I can decorate my pony for a festive ride around the village on Christmas day. Is your ward decorated?

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 23/12/2024 16:07

I’m sitting on the couch - not long up as been having trouble sleeping. I hope where you are will help your situation.

ForPearlViper · 23/12/2024 17:02

My sister was in hospital over Christmas when she was in her early 20s. She could get her operation done much quicker if she agreed to going in over that period.

I spent the morning with her, then had Xmas lunch with my parents who went in for the afternoon and evening. It wasn't too awful - the ward was half empty and the nurses were lovely, handing out lots of treats. At that point, she wasn't allowed to get out of bed.

However, and this is the point (and why her being a young thing is relevant). This hospital was in Leeds. The one that Jimmy Saville frequented, particularly over the holiday periods. This was long before his crimes came to light but we already thought he was really, really creepy.

So we had a pleasant morning coming up with ways we could get rid of him if he appeared on her ward.

I wish you a nice day, OP, and I'm sure there will be lots of people here popping in and out to keep you company. Take care of yourself.

Read the post ffs. It's a psychiatric unit.

NoCarbsForMe · 24/12/2024 07:03

Have you got Spotify op? Podcasts are great! What kind of things are you interested in? Maybe we could recommend some?

MinnieMountain · 24/12/2024 07:25

The Empire podcast has gone Christmassy.

11yo DS has just got in bed with me for a cuddle. I’m enjoying that whilst I can.

We’ve got MIL, step-MIL and FIL over for Christmas Day. We’re going to the pub with them this afternoon, then going home just the 3 of us to have a takeaway and watch It’s a Wonderful Life.
