In hospital for Christmas - anyone keep me company?

I'm in hospital at the moment (mental health unit) and will be here over Christmas. I won't see family and I'm feeling pretty fed up and lonely right now. Hoping someone may be up for keeping me company with some distracting chit chat?!

Got to cook later today other then that thankfully a chilled down day

I've just done Wordle, Quordle, Octordle and Octordle Sequence. I'd hate to miss a day. Listening to Gareth Southgate's Desert Island Discs on BBC Sounds. He's such a kind, gentle person.

Thinking I'll grab a cuppa and do wordle while waiting for my teens to wake up.... filled their stockings before I went to bed, but they aren't such ridiculously early risers as they used to be 😊

I've subscribed to the NYT puzzle app and to my joy they seem to have made the crossword slightly easier so I don't have to Google all the answers, or possibly I have got smarter. I do that plus Strands plus Connections and the mini crossword.
I'm more news and politics based on my podcasts, and V mainstream - I like The News Agents, The Rest is Politics US, The Rest is Entertainment and Parenting Hell. I also tried The Brighter Side recently and liked it. The jury is out on The Rest is Classified but I'm trying it. Like you, I seem to listen a lot, my Spotify Wrapped said I was a top 2% news listener.

My fave is on Spotify called The 10% Happier podcast. I love it because it has daily uplifting interviews with interesting people, some of whom have had mental health challenges in the past and they discuss their techniques to keep things on an even keel. I do like a bit of practical advice!

My way of soothing my MH is to get out in the garden, be at one with nature and potter around. No matter how I'm feeling I always come back indoors the better for it. Even this time of year, things are still happening and creatures are scurrying and grubbing around for some food. Oh, to have their simple life!

Just wanted to pop in and send Christmas wishes.

A few years back my dad was sectioned and spent Christmas in a secure unit. It was hard for us all but we managed to take in a plate of food for him to share and the staff were lovely. It was a bit surreal sitting on hard chairs in a sterile room watching him eat, but we made the best of it.

I do hope that you get a nice lunch and get to feel a bit festive for a little bit of the day.

OP asked for diverting chit chat and ForPearlViper's contribution is interesting. More interesting than sorting a medical box or someone's husband visiting their mum in hospital - and neither of those have to do with psychiatric wards.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I usually do NYT mini crossword, Wordle, Connections and Waffle daily but there seem to be a few more that I've bit heard of so i will take a look at those.

I'm still in my pjs but saying to myself that's fine. Tempted to go back to sleep - I'm permanently exhausted at the moment - but think I will put some TV on and try and finish the jigsaw I'm doing

My favourite word game is… Scrabble! I love it. The online version is great. One tip is to have several games running at once though, because not everyone plays ‘live’. There’s also other word-based games on the app.

(It’s a free app and I’ve never felt the need to buy any of the in-game purchases).

I intend to where my Christmas Highland Cow PJ bottoms all day (they have holly entwined in their horns & Christmas jumpers) but have a decent top on in case my brother manages to video call me to my very elderly parents later.

I'm just having a quiet day here, I'm having salmon for lunch, so nothing challenging in the cooking line!

I'm thinking of starting the Year of Wonder project, it's listening to a short piece of music every day of the year. I've got the accompanying book on my Kindle, it has a brief introduction to each daily piece, and you can find the music on YouTube.

Here there is a cranberry sauce related argument. I have bought all sorts of stuff for Christmas and have prepared the food.

I can't currently locate the jar of cranberry sauce. DH is currently searching through his wardrobe upstairs as though he is going to find it there. Sulking.

I shall be LTB in the new year if he decides to go in the loft on his quest for cranberries. (He is shouting down the stairs that it might be in the Xmas tree box and should he go and look for it there).

I love him but I don't always like him,

We've had a 'what oven tray to put the turkey on' tiff but all good now.
