Ds was planning to visit his dad at some point over Christmas. Looking at trains last night, they were absolutely extortionate and for two days, inc 10 hour travel time, it wasn’t worth the price.

Ex h has gone mental. Sent me a text last night saying that as I chose to move so far away from him, it’s my responsibility, and I should bring ds to him for contact. I have to drive him or pay the train fare. He’s going to “take advice” on next steps.

Ds is 22 years old. Yes, twenty-two. Not two. A grown man.

Has his own job, didn’t know when his leave would be until last night so couldn’t plan in advance, and to be honest, he’s a grown arse adult who is working Christmas Day anyway and what he does with his free time and his money is no longer any of my business.

I am wondering on what these next steps will be? Solicitor, perhaps? Or maybe he will go for full custody? I mean, ds lives with his girlfriend now, so I presume it’s her he would take to court, not me? Or perhaps their landlord? Who knows!

Oh and I know I’ll get asked why he still has my contact details. It’s because, every so often, he will do something batshit like this and honestly, I find it hilarious. When ds was 18, he said he was going to court for full custody and was contacting solicitors as ds didn’t want to go to uni, so this is nothing new, the man is just a fucking idiot. I tell him to let me know how it goes and then ignore him.

My ex does this from time to time

He hasn't bothered with his kids since dd1 was 2 and a half-her brother was about 18 months old

He gets wind of something and the threats start up

The last one was 'how dare you let dd go abroad-ive not given permission!stop her from going!take her passport away!'

He was going to take 'legal action' against me apparently (never heard a thing)

She was 27 at the time

27?????

🤣🤣🤣

Has your ds got a railcard? Will keep future train travel costs down a bit

https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/railcards/

Oh and your dh is a proper twit of the highest order 😀

He’d usually drive, but his (my!) old car failed MOT, they are shopping around for a new one between them.

Your ex sounds like a loony arsehole, but what age was the DS when you moved away from the ex? If he was still a dependent this is a bit of a dick move tbh. It's attempting to sabotage him having a relationship with his dad, and to my mind is on the same moral level as separated parents trash-talking each other to the children.
I'm sure people will ask "So should women not be able to move away from their exes?" and the answer is, morally, no they shouldn't.

Tell him if he starts getting arsey, you will put up his child maintenance 😂

please just respond with “before you take advice on next steps please remind yourself of our sons DOB and the fact he is now an adult. I have no say over his actions.” 😂😂😂

Don't do this. Instead, imagine him booking and attending a very expensive solicitors appointment and it's all gone through and at the end of the consultation the brief asks the age of the minor in question.

This way he gets to pay a whopping consultation fee to be told he is having a fricken larf and to get the hell out of the office.

I would never block someone like this either. They are better value when you can read their ramblings.

But men should be allowed to move away? Why are only women expected to facilitate contact?

Bettyboo111 · 18/12/2024 13:17

How far away is he? What a grown man would do is come a pick his son up and make a road trip chatting on the return journey.
What a prat.

Text back

who is this?

MrsWhites · 18/12/2024 13:17

Would it not be cheaper to pay for the train ticket himself than to pay to ‘seek advice’ if it means that much to him? What a knob!

GCAcademic · 18/12/2024 13:18

Thank you for this. I needed a laugh and it delivered.

Theunamedcat · 18/12/2024 13:18

My go to response is OK or 👍 always with the threat of court of social services he threatened me after lockdown saying he wanted to see his children again!! (I never stopped him he told me he wouldn't see them due to covid) I said great! Back to normal? No no! He wanted ONE HOUR twice a week and social services allegedly said that "wasn't unreasonable" and if I refused he would take me to COURT! I said OK 👍

socialdilemmawhattodo · 18/12/2024 13:18

Just wondering if you were married to my ex? We have a DC who is just a little younger than yours, but still an adult. My ex still produces a contact planner and gets stroppy if our child stays longer at mine. He demanded 50:50 so as not to pay maintenance. DC only goes along with it as ex pays for his car. But as a PP said it is about control.

I would reply..

Seek advice? Seek advice!?! Who from? He’s 22, you moron.

Let me know what Childline say…and Bernardos…and a maybe get back in touch with the Solicitor who dealt with custody at the time of our divorce, you know, when he was A CHILD!

This has given me a jolly good chuckle, seek advice! Ha! LOL! Meeting the girls tonight for Christmas drinks, we’ll all have a jolly good laugh at this.

OP, I know you’ve found the bland responses useful over the years, but surely it’s time to send something like this?!!

TroysMammy · 18/12/2024 13:19

If I had adult children and an ex husband who continued to blight my life I would text him "don't be a twat. You were a twat when we were married and you continue to be a twat and I have no space in my life for twats". And then block him, he's an ex for a reason. But for my amusement and comedic value I may not block him everywhere.

rainbowstardrops · 18/12/2024 13:19

Does he need you to pack DS off with a change of clothes too?!
Bloody knob. At least he's given you (and us) a good giggle though!

Tell him ds can't come because he is grounded... Say he left the toilet seat up /top off the toothpaste /fill in something as equally stupid... My exh is dead. 2 years on and still celebrating... But he had a solicitor write and demand I remove my new blinds as he could no longer see into my house..
Oddy no judge agreed with him.

This is literally the epitome of the fact that you can pay for a solicitor to write anything in a letter and send it. 🥴

BunnyLake · 18/12/2024 13:20

Just keep on with the Let me know how it goes 😂

AcrossthePond55 · 18/12/2024 13:22

@Mydogisamassivetwat

I'd find the most expensive law firm in his area and send him this:

"May I suggest you consult with <expensive firm>? I hear they are very good."

Or tell him this: "In light of your recent text I have retained legal representation. Please refer all further correspondence on this matter to the firm of Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe".

SnoopySantaPaws · 18/12/2024 13:22

Thanks for the laugh!!

We moved when ds finished A levels.

But that’s a red herring to be honest, as ex h worked abroad from before ds was born. When we were together, he came home at weekends, but when we split, He only saw him once every 4-6 weeks when he was in the country for the weekend, or he’d take ds away for a week in school holidays.

He kept the house and rented it out when I left, as he was never there. It’s only the last year or so he’s stopped working abroad and lives there full time. I could have moved when ds was little, it would have made no difference to contact, ds used to travel to be near the airport so he could see him for longer when he flew in.

Did he actually take that one to court? If I were you, I'd have been selling tickets for the public gallery, it must have been hilarious.

😳 what the actual fuck! Do these men really not see that everyone thinks they're complete twats😂

lionloaf · 18/12/2024 13:25

If your ex is so arsed he should be picking them up or paying for the train. He obviously just loves have something to complain about and ways to feel he’s been “wronged”. Good on you for not engaging, it must be hard at times!

Baili · 18/12/2024 13:25

Thanks for the laugh. Had to re-read the age. Wot a knob. Divorce was the right decision. Your poor son.

27?????

🤣🤣🤣

That is completely derangedly hilarious. It sounds like 27 is the record so far! Any advance on 27?
