Ds was planning to visit his dad at some point over Christmas. Looking at trains last night, they were absolutely extortionate and for two days, inc 10 hour travel time, it wasn’t worth the price.

Ex h has gone mental. Sent me a text last night saying that as I chose to move so far away from him, it’s my responsibility, and I should bring ds to him for contact. I have to drive him or pay the train fare. He’s going to “take advice” on next steps.

Ds is 22 years old. Yes, twenty-two. Not two. A grown man.

Has his own job, didn’t know when his leave would be until last night so couldn’t plan in advance, and to be honest, he’s a grown arse adult who is working Christmas Day anyway and what he does with his free time and his money is no longer any of my business.

I am wondering on what these next steps will be? Solicitor, perhaps? Or maybe he will go for full custody? I mean, ds lives with his girlfriend now, so I presume it’s her he would take to court, not me? Or perhaps their landlord? Who knows!

Oh and I know I’ll get asked why he still has my contact details. It’s because, every so often, he will do something batshit like this and honestly, I find it hilarious. When ds was 18, he said he was going to court for full custody and was contacting solicitors as ds didn’t want to go to uni, so this is nothing new, the man is just a fucking idiot. I tell him to let me know how it goes and then ignore him.

Why have I never thought of this?? I bloody love jamaica ginger cake and I love icing... Oh dear... I'm going to have to try this!

I iced mine this morning and have been waiting for it to set!

loveawineloveacrisp · 18/12/2024 17:31

Based on my experience, my DD was very glad to know the truth about how her dad had treated me once she was old enough. She could then make her own decision on how much she wanted to see him, based on the facts.

What a fabulous thread 😂. Men really are absurd creatures aren't they.

As your DS is over 18 your ex cannot go to Family Court for an order

I'm 3 hours late, but lol.

You should of course drive down there with him in the baby seat!!!!

🤣🤣🤣

OhBling · 18/12/2024 17:37

OP - thanks for the laugh. I agree with you that the entertainment value makes it worthwhile and also with a PP that it can be a helpful reminder that people liek this exist. Often I find that when you tell people in real life about some batshit behaviour, they assume that you're misunderstanding or exaggerating or whatever. You have to experience it to really understand the disordered thinking of it.

Some corkers we've had from exBIL....

Absolute OUTRAGE that he wasn't invited over for pizza on DH's birthday (ages after they broke up). That one triggered a series of aggressive text messages to DH.

FURY that after he forced his way into SIL's house, while I was there, and I had dared to agree with her that he had no right to come in..... that also triggered a series of text messages but these ones were amusingly patronising.

He rang one of her friends to rant at her becuase she did not invite him to her wedding (he was not friends with this woman separately to his relationship with SIL).

He sent SIL a stream of abusive messages threatening court, when she told him that even though he had a key to her house in order to bring their DC home from s chool, he could not use that key to wander in at any time he liked. His view that "this is my children's home so I have the right to access it whenever I like".

He once told her that he was going to take her to court to get full custody, and, of course, would win.... because she had told him that actually no, that weekend was not convenient for a last minute visit as they were at a party.

Haha what an absolute deranged bellend. My
DS is 41 and I still get dumb emails from my ex husband along the lines of....we need to stand together and make sure DS attends mass.
He knows full well I am pagan and Ds is an atheist.
I couldn't give a shit if he attends mass or nor.

I hear from him sporadically when he’s got some mental notion. I find it funny. I don’t engage other than with the same phrase I’ve used for years now. Which I also find funny as any normal person would think, “oh, maybe that means piss off.”

As I said further up the thread… there is no way I’d block him, he’s brilliant! 😂

asthecrowdwaschantingmore · 18/12/2024 17:48

I have made a note of your grand, all purpose response and will use it it future with certain people at work 😎

sammyjoanne · 18/12/2024 17:49

I think he should go on judge rinder. Its the sort of thing that would be on his show😂

Compash · 18/12/2024 17:58

I don't think the courts will give him custody if you're still breast-feeding, is that an issue here? 🧐

Why are you still keeping lines of communication open with this twat? Your son is an adult and has been for a long time. Just block him!

OP I applaud you for keeping your sense of humour through this all. But behind it and all the stories of twattish ex's is just how clear it is that a lot of men dont really see family members as anything other than an extension of themselves, no matter how old. Same mentality as those arseholes that wipe out their whole families when they want to commit suicide.

KvotheTheBloodless · 18/12/2024 18:19

Oh please don't block him OP, this is even funnier than the fat ball! Grin

LifeOfBriony · 18/12/2024 18:23

It’s not weird. It’s his dad. He knows he can be a bit of a knob from the way he’s seen him act in situations over the years, not to me, but to others. I’ve never said a word about him to ds, he’s come to his own conclusions from time Spent with him.

But it’s not stuff you’d cut your father off for. I wouldn’t want that. I know people who have cut out family and it’s really sad and stressful for them. I don’t want that for ds.

And his dad is a workaholic. Christmas has been the only time he’s ever taken real time off, so it’s not so much to do with Christmas, it was a time when he was off an ds could fit in seeing him on his rest days.
