Are you in favour of the Royal Family?

DM and I were discussing this last night, she's now in her Eighties and used to really like the Queen (not so much Phillip for some reason) but now really isn't bothered and thinks the RF, as is, should be abolished . I've always been a Republican but I was surprised at DM as she always seemed very pro RF but actually was pro the late Queen.

IMHO it seems so past it's sell by date but I'd be interested to know others opinions.

I think William is gearing up for a slimmed down and less visible and hands on Monarchy - for his day on the throne.

You know, less is more, which I think would suit him and his family quite nicely. They will keep all the trappings of wealth though.

Watch this space.

that's what was said about his dad.

I'm not a royalist by any means. And I definitely have no time for the " hangers on" who don't do any work for the country at all.
My main worry is that if you abolish the Royal family what do we replace it with? I certainly wouldn't be happy with a presidential system..

I feel the same. As official Head of State, at least the monarch tends to do a good job of PR and diplomacy when they represent the country. The Queen did anyway. They are brought up to do that. The USA has elected an ignorant boor as their head of state, and the UK could easily do the same - someone like Boris Johnson is quite likely to be elected.
Presidents aren't cheap either. Look at what the USA spends - they might as well be kings.
Plus most of what the RF owns belongs to the state, it isn't their personal property.

I'm with David Icke ... I think they are devils.

A monarchy with even less 'work' than the risible amount the Duke of Doolittle does now would suit him fine.

Would certainly leave him even more time to skim charities, the NHS and the armed forces on his own behalf

Acrossthemountains · 12/12/2024 16:44

The queen was the worst one of the lot. She's the one who raised that current bunch of parasites. Makes me laugh that the stories about Charles leeching off the nhs and rnli come out now - are we supposed to believe the queen didn't have any unpalatable business dealings?

Theyre all scum.

SaMMaxis170 · 12/12/2024 16:45

yes

GreenClock · 12/12/2024 16:45

I’m anti-monarchy and would like Charles to be the last sovereign. My reasons have always related to inequality/wealth - nothing personal against Charles, I felt the same when his mother was living. It’s not about William, who seems perfectly nice, either. It’s the concept.

In recent years I’ve started to feel uncomfortable about George. The way his future is set in stone. I look at footage of that child and I feel a bit sad. Likewise, the stuff about how Charlotte and Louis will “support” him. Why must they? When William and Harry were young, I was a child myself so didn’t feel this sadness.

im sure he was high with his ideas and he thought they were reptilians' if i remember correctly

WTAFisthisnonsense · 12/12/2024 16:46

I'm a republican - the monarchy is an anachronism.

Ukisgaslit · 12/12/2024 16:50

They tried the PR line ‘ slimed down monarchy in preparation for Charles’ stint
Any sign of it ? Quite the opposite - in fact thanks to lizzie’s secret machinations ( apolitical lol - how thick do you need to be to believe that line) the Windsors stolen wealth has ballooned
If you watched the Dispatches expose you’ll see the real Windsors . Where is that ‘service’ when they are ripping off the NHS to fill their pockets ? Or charging the very charities they are patron of ?

William will certainly ‘slim it down’ ie do no work but he’ll try to keep the money .

Philip said they’d go quietly btw

dermalermalurd · 12/12/2024 16:50

Nope. It's an embarrassing anachronism of a disgusting feudal system. Cannot understand the British obsession with cap doffing to their betters. They aren't better than any one of us; worse frequently.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/12/2024 16:51

No. They are a pointless anachronism.

It's telling that there hasn't been more fall-out from the Despatches programme. What it suggests is that the MSN and the royal family, via courtiers, have a pact. We're all being taken for mugs.

Ukisgaslit · 12/12/2024 16:57

I would be happy to have the financial rip off sorted . The Duchys are not theirs - they were overlooked when king George handed over his lands .They were worthless at the time . The Duchys should be back under the crown estate ( ie state owned )
The tap of public money needs to be turned off . . Any security costs published .
Then of course the Windsors themselves would be rushing for the exit . No push needed

MayaPinion · 12/12/2024 16:58

I think it’s quite embarrassing to have people we pay to be ‘subjects’ to, purely by virtue of their birth and in the absence of any other notable gifts or abilities. Zara Tindall is good at riding a horse, I guess, but that’s about it. I’m not a fan of forelock tugging to gold braid and tiaras and it’s certainly not necessary in modern society.

Christmaseason · 12/12/2024 16:59

Extiainoiapeial · 12/12/2024 17:01

Why do you have to replace them with anything tho? What would happen if you didn't? Probably nothing..

DappledThings · 12/12/2024 17:06

Mainly ambivalent but if there was a referendum I'd vote to get rid of them.

I find the bowing and curtseying so cringey. I hate that Catherine's always doing. How does anyone take the nonsense seriously enough to curtsy to their FIL?

Hyperion100 · 12/12/2024 17:06

Disgusting bunch of inbreds.

When they stop taking the taxpayer for a ride, start paying their fair share in inheritance tax and stop charging the NHS to park ambulances on their land, I might change my mind - but they wont do that.

Can't quite figure out if you're against or not, your post is a bit vague?

mumtotwo11 · 12/12/2024 17:08

I like the idea of having a royal family and a "non political " head of state, however I don't like Charles and William - I have no respect for them at all based on their behaviour
