What's the craziest behaviour you've witnessed at a Christmas work do?

ChristmasDoDo · 11/12/2024 01:19

Years ago there were a couple of (female) Head of Departments that were frenemies. They actually worked really well together but there was an undercurrent of rivalry there. That year at the Christmas do they were friendly enough to start off with but a couple of bottles of vino later the gloves came off - one of them accused the other of giving a member of her team a BJ in her office, she totally kicked off and the pair of them ended up on the dance floor rolling around trying to pull each other's hair out. It was completely nuts. One of them later resigned and HR released a policy of how to behave when on work socials. That was the last year the company held a Christmas party.

So glad I boycotted the after party of my works Christmas do after reading these! Although curious as to what behaviour I'm missing out observing!

Starlin · 12/12/2024 19:14

Several juniors turning up drunk at 4pm when the party "started". Several people getting lost from a 5 min walk from the office to the location.

2 very heterosexuals, same sex colleagues making out on the dance floor and "moving things on in the toilet" later.

One sales guy fell asleep in someone's front garden and woke up the next morning to a very angry homeowner wondering why they had pissed all over their roses.

When people who hook up as a one off at a work party (be it a snog or something more)...... Is it awkward seeing them after the party?

If you do it often enough , you get used to it. 🙈

One of our drivers decided to jump up onto a table and do a strip tease. He then twirled his boxers above his head and fell off. Come Monday when he'd sobered up, he was mortified.

One of my first employers had a big do and brought in a hypnotist for the entertainment. Employees were encouraged to volunteer on stage to do supposedly hilarious things whilst under the influence of both him and alcohol. One turned into a chicken and pecked his boss, then pulled his trousers down and pretended to lay an egg on the boss's table.

Three employees were disciplined over their behaviour in the following weeks.

I am crying laughing 🤣

Saw colleague dancing (slowly) with a full body sized pot plant. A huge green thing with massive leaves. He was nuzzling it and effectively cheek to leaf - went on for a while and he appeared quite enamoured.

couldn’t look him in the eye after this really.

Edited

Am I weird for thinking this is quite sweet?🪴♥️

50 year old 'middle class lady of a certain age' puking her guts up at the tube.

Xmasxrackers · 12/12/2024 19:26

One year my very straight male manager was wasted, put a wig and make up on. He was leaning on the back of a chair , the chair fell over, manager rolled under the table, emerged 20 mins later and checked his make up in the mirror before trotting off to dance again

SalsaLights · 12/12/2024 19:28

“Oops there’s Marjorie’s minge, now what were you saying about renovating the ha ha?” !!

That's made me laugh! I know just what you mean about the poker face keep calm and carry on approach.

My sons old school had a works do at a hotel. School staff. Police was called and they was banned from that hotel chain. Lots of extremely bad and criminal behaviour. From teachers.

Are teachers somehow different from other people?

SunnyHappyPeople · 12/12/2024 19:30

These stories are so good.

I just have the sadly common story of the usually very quiet, newly wed guy getting it hot and steamy with the blonde temp.

Very awkward for them in the office, until the next party, where they were at it again.

Another of a soon to be manager standing on the table screaming 'lets hav ya!!!'.

I didn't witness it - it happened just after I left. It was a teachers' Christmas meal. My husband was an invalid by then, so I only had my meal and then left before the serious drinking started.

After the meal had finished, everyone else repaired downstairs from the restaurant to the bar area.

Another middle manager - a fat, middle-aged sleazebag who fancied himself as a ladies' man - hit on a young woman who was at the bar with her boyfriend. The boyfriend did not take kindly to this. He aimed a punch at the would-be Lothario - and accidentally clouted the young male probationer from an entirely different department.

End of party.

Honestly, I have so many stories of teachers getting particularly pished at Christmas.

SunflowerSeahorse · 12/12/2024 19:35

At the previous school where I worked, member of SLT stuck his face in much younger, junior member of staff's cleavage and motorboated her. Didn't get fired, just made a grovelling apology during a meeting with the Head.
Same school: Head of a department grabbed the microphone off the lead singer of the band and started singing, badly. Same woman went behind the bar and started serving herself drinks - she was kicked out and barred. She ended her evening by running away from a taxi driver, refusing to pay.

CombatLingerie · 12/12/2024 19:36

Good thread OP. I have seen many a sight. A very demure and quiet collleague once turned up to the Christmas do dressed as a Dominatrix. The only thing missing was a whip. Apparently she always dressed like that in her spare time. I once got so drunk in my youth that I woke up the morning after on top of my bed, fully clothed, shoes on and a clutch bag still clamped firmly under my armpit.

Nordione1 · 12/12/2024 19:40

Ah this thread has brought back so many happy/appalling memories. Good times!

HerSisterWasAWitch · 12/12/2024 19:43

@StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans that had me howling 🤣

FeegleFrenzy · 12/12/2024 19:47

Nearly thirty years ago when I was very young and stupid I shagged one of the contractors at the Xmas party (well upstairs in my hotel room). We thought we’d been subtle not walking out together and not coming back in together but we were noticed. He was immediately let go, literally never came back to work.

Not sure why…..whether the managers thought he’d taken advantage of me, whether they were annoyed with both of us but couldn’t sack me as I had a contract…..no idea. Never saw or heard from him again….was before Facebook or mobile phones so had no idea how to make contact. Still feel bad about what happened to him! He was never discussed in the office, my manager never said anything to me.

NetZeroZealot · 12/12/2024 19:49

25 years ago. The temp pissed in the lift and then shagged one of the staff standing up in the car park.

Those were the days.

My daughter just had her first Christmas drinks I had to go pick her up after she vomited all over the loo. She is 20 and autistic, she said people kept buying her drinks and telling her it makes her more sociable so she can come out of her shell. She is mortified and I’m quite cross about the whole thing.

I’m so sorry to hear this! That is disgusting behaviour by her colleagues. My son is autistic and I would absolutely be broken if his work colleagues showed him so little respect and did this.
i work in an environment that seems to have a large portion of ND colleagues (science/maths/statistics environment) and I’m really proud that we are all so accepting and supporting of each other both in and out of work.
i hope your daughter is ok x

20 odd years ago now. But head of transport bottled someone from environmental health. We got kicked out the pub and it took months for HR to deal with dismissing the head of transport.

Wow. I hope the victim prosecuted. What a shitty employer.

I'm shocked how many women go out without knickers on when wearing a skirt or dress. Just why?

To avoid a vpl
