If not Lurpak, what?

I like the 'white' butter of Lurpak, as opposed to the 'yellow' of most. Can anyone recommend a decent alternative?

I'm not saying you are scaremongering.
I am saying that those who are making this out to be something that it isn't are scaremongering.
Arla is fine.
Lurpak is fine.
Bovaer does not reach the milk or milk products.
Reducing methane production from farming involving cows is a sensible approach.

I don’t want to - for health and ethical reasons, partake in the bovaer trial, so am endeavouring to buy products that reflect that.

Why do you have a problem with what I am choosing to eat? If you’re that bothered about cows and their methane production you could always choose to go vegan. Reducing the number of cows - not fannying around with the food chain - is more sensible.

Because I would rather the animals are free to eat what nature designed them to eat

that would only work if cattle could roam i a large area. and could only give milk a few months of the year.
meat and milk products would be unaffordable for most people that way.

I buy my milk from a local dairy whose cows are free to roam most of the year in pasture - I am very lucky in that I can take a short walk from my house and see them. And they are well looked after. Winter feed is grown on the farm. They don’t however make their own butter so that’s why I initially asked for recommendations.

Not an option open to everyone, I get that. But we all make choices about our food. This is one of mine.

Lots of posters suggesting Tesco and Aldi products as an alternative but they are also made by Arla.

I have butter on toast, in sandwiches, scrambled eggs, use it for baking, in cooking. Proper butter made with just cream and salt is good for you (alongside full fat yoghurt/milk, nuts, salmon, naturally fatty foods, basically) despite what many people believe. Spreads, however, are not. My FIL who smothers everything in disgusting, fluorescent yellow spreads has high blood pressure...I wonder why!

I eat organic, vegetarian and as far as possible UPF free. And I have massively high blood pressure which the doctors are unable to control even with 4 different pills per day.

Even their regular milk, not just the long life and branded stuff?

You're not partaking in the trial though.
The product won't affect your health because it doesn't reach the milk/milk product which you will consume
It's also not unethical - farm animals are already given a variety of supplements in their diet, for various reasons. They can still fart, it's just that less methane will be produced. I also find it quote odd that you're don't seem bothered about the ethics of forcing cows to produce milk for us in the first place.

I don’t want to support a company who does this trial as I do not agree with it.

By buying their products I am contributing to their profits and I am choosing not to do that.

If you have a problem with them farting then go vegan.

Did you not read any of the factual information I provided to you?
Don't jump on the scaremongering bandwagon.

No. But then I'm not making a case that people shouldn't be interested in what's happening to their food at the same time as suggesting that that food is inherently weird/ unethical in the first place.

I'm asking why they're only bothered about certain things being unethical.
It's hypocritical.

Why are people who aren't bothered about the milk additive being told to go vegan? https://fullfact.org/online/bovaer-bill-gates-cancer-claims/#:~:text=Bovaer%20has%20been%20deemed%20safe,authorities%20in%20the%20approved%20doses.

People who are really bothered about it can buy organic or make their own butter - it isn't difficult to do.

No there isn't anything wrong with Arla, but it's worth pointing out that, if people want to avoid Arla products, there's a whole list of supermarket own brand items that are made with exactly the same milk as that used to make Lurpak and other Arla owned brands.

So they need to avoid these too. Otherwise they'd look like those fools who use their mobile phones to connect to the internet to rant about mobile phone masts.

I'm not bothered about it because it's all scaremongering. I find it hypocritical to only be bothered about that one aspect of the dairy industry.

It's hypocritical.

So, if you were vegan, I might think that, not only are you not invested in the conversation, but you might have an over-inflated sense of moral righteousness in which you would think that non-vegans would have it coming if their food chain were corrupted.

As I said, I haven't changed my shopping habits, but I am quite surprised by the level of affront generated because other people have. Why are you angry, why do you care?

As stated, several times, the issue is folk's selective concerns about ethics.
Saying an additive is more an ethical concern than the actual process of milk production itself doesn't really make sense.
Also, I wouldn't say I'm angry, but it does worry me how much people are falling for all the nonsensical scaremongering.

I’m not angry but I don’t like people making stuff up to scare other people who believe what they read on the internet. It leads to rubbish like only drinking raw milk and avoiding vaccines - courses of action which can kill people.

Dontwearmysocks · 08/12/2024 12:47

Some posters letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.

I don’t like huge agri-industry pretending it’s the good guy by reducing the amount of methane it itself is responsible for by messing with the food chain rather than scaling back its production in the first place - that’s hypocrisy by the way, on a much bigger scale than me choosing not to buy their products and instead supporting a smaller, local business,

President
Yorkshire butter ( from the Wensleydale creamery but available in lots of places)
Lidl's cornish butter with sea salt crystals ( silver wrapper)
All#9 much nicer than Lurpak!
