If not Lurpak, what?

I like the 'white' butter of Lurpak, as opposed to the 'yellow' of most. Can anyone recommend a decent alternative?

Butterpak

kizzywizz · 07/12/2024 14:38

President.

Floranan · 07/12/2024 14:40

I like president, it’s a bit dear but worth it.

I tend do use a cheaper anchor or supermarket own brand for sandwiches with a strong filler like chutney or mustards, then use president for toast etc

I've found President a bit 'sweet' in the past...

Lurpak is lactic butter but most are sweet cream so you want another lactic butter.

But if its to do with the Arla boycott be aware that they make a lot of supermarket own brand products.

Mailys · 07/12/2024 15:05

Tesco's own version, similar packaging to Lurpak. Way cheaper and I can't tell the difference TBH

Brummiecurlz173 · 07/12/2024 15:06

I might be a bit monsterous for this but clover has been used to spread on sandwiches and in other stuff. No Lurpak here 😂

Bjorkdidit · 07/12/2024 15:10

I suppose we need the OP to clarify whether she means block butter or spread in a tub, but 'white butter' would indicate the former.

when I rule the world the punishment for calling spread butter will be severe

PolaDeVeboise · 07/12/2024 16:36

Either really. I use block and spreadable Lurpak at the moment. Yes, it is down to the additive thing..

Crikeyalmighty · 07/12/2024 16:37

I use President - don't use much butter apart from crumpets and the odd bit on veg so doesn't matter to me if it's a bit pricey

I believe Arla are supplying Tesco's own brands.

yoshiblue · 07/12/2024 16:47

President is the best, also Kerrygold but that very yellow.

Terrribletwos · 07/12/2024 16:50

Just butter really, can't stomach anything else.

BeeCucumber · 07/12/2024 16:53

Just eat the Lurpack or eat real butter. 🙄

Hoglet70 · 07/12/2024 16:57

DS was wittering on about Arla and Lurkpak and all Tesco dairy products the other day so I bought him some Cravendale to drink. Luckily he laughed.
Is this additive in organic stuff?

StaunchMomma · 07/12/2024 17:02

If it's down to the additive thing then maybe try different butters to see which you like best?

I'm not a huge fan of yellowish butters, either - too creamy for me. Everyone raves about Kerrygold but it's too much for my palate (I don't like cream much either).

Maybe try making it yourself, too? It's ridiculously easy. A monkey could do it.

Cravendale are part of the Arla/Tesco backlash, aren't they?

They are feeding it to dairy cows. DEFRA say it doesn't leach into the milk, but on the other hand the research papers state one of the ingredients is carcegenic. So it really depends on whether you trust this government to be truthful. The same government/department that has re-approved pesticides that kill bees btw.

No idea OP, apparently it's in a lot of supermarkets own milk and butter now 😯

chickenlettuceunderbacon · 07/12/2024 17:09

Another lover of white slightly tart butter. President, Wheelbarrow and surprisingly, Waitrose essential unsalted are all great. The best is a brand whose name escapes me, but it's glorious and notoriously hard to find in the UK.

M&S also stock a hand churned one which is wrapped in white paper. Delicious!

Bodeganights · 07/12/2024 17:09

Nordpak from aldi, no idea who actually makes it, but it tastes almost the same as lurpak

Livedandlearned · 07/12/2024 17:13

I like the one in a black packet from Lidl, Welsh salted

MugPlate · 07/12/2024 17:15

Try make some. www.abeautifulplate.com/how-to-make-cultured-butter/

BESTAUNTB · 07/12/2024 17:17

Castle Dairies at Waitrose.

jellybellysaregood · 07/12/2024 17:20

closest I've found it Nordpak from Aldi or Danpak from Lidl, hard to tell the difference with Lurpak and much cheaper
