Tip for those that have door knockers that are banging .
Wrap a scarf around them , my mum used to do that in a storm and at least we all slept through it and peace during the day .

DrivingThePlot · 07/12/2024 07:52

We're on the Dorset coast, top of a hill, very exposed to winds and it's getting wild out there. Our mini greenhouse blew over in the night and DS's bike cover came off. Nothing worse than that so far but the strongest winds are yet to arrive.
Stay safe everyone.

SockFluffInTheBath · 07/12/2024 07:54

Warwickshire here, high wind and rain. Been awake since 3 as we’re surrounded by large trees that make a racket in the wind. Hope everyone is safe.

Is anyone in Morecambe? We are supposed to be going there this afternoon.
I seem to be the only one in the house that's worried/

notbelieved · 07/12/2024 07:56

NW coast, Amber zone. It's wild. I sleep in the attic - my bed is moving!

North London. The wind woke me up. I can't imagine being in a red zone.

North London here as well. Can't remember the last time it was this windy. Hope everyone in the red zone is okay.

Glitchymn1 · 07/12/2024 07:59

South Wales, wet and very windy - no damage. Around 25 miles from the coast. There have been business closures as wholesalers can’t get food in.
Thank god I’ve got bread and T roll 😂

spuddy4 · 07/12/2024 08:02

In South Wales and unfortunately in work. Our deliveries haven't left the depot yet due to the weather, they will assess the situation this afternoon and decide if it's safe for them. I wouldn't want to be driving a HGV in this weather so it's the right decision. Still had customers moaning about it already though, it's going to be a long day.

WhatTheKey · 07/12/2024 08:03

Welsh coast. Gusts hit 91mph! 😱

OrangesCinammonIvy · 07/12/2024 08:03

@spuddy4 unless people's lives depend on it everything should be scaled back today

You can also stuff a tea towel in the letterbox if the flap is rattling excessively.

Edit to say I don't think I do mean letterbox but I can't think of the term for the hole in the door!

discocherry · 07/12/2024 08:06

South west. It’s pretty windy outside obviously. Very windy overnight. PTFA event I’m volunteering at later (teacher) is apparently still on and I have a streaming cold so was hoping it was cancelled!

ProbableDoris · 07/12/2024 08:07

Truro, south Cornwall, still in bed although I’ve been awake for hours. The house is vibrating and my bedroom lampshade was swinging just now. Not quite at its worst yet, that’ll be more around lunchtime. Dread to think what my front garden looks like!

Probablyshouldntsay · 07/12/2024 08:07

500metres from Welsh coast here 😅 last night was a little noisy but too dark to see damages yet. Proud of my little house for holding up so well so far!

spuddy4 · 07/12/2024 08:07

@OrangesCinammonIvy I completely agree with you, unfortunately you'll always get the die hard Saturday morning shoppers who won't stay at home for anything. There's even people who've come to the cafe for breakfast in this weather 🤦‍♀️

Hampshire coast, woke couple of times during the night with the wind blowing, the door in the bedroom to the eaves kept creaking and heard rain at one point.

At the moment, windy, can't hear any rain but will check on FB soon and see if there is any damage locally or signs of flooding to property at the creek few minutes from me.

I have just noticed something like a cover for outdoor furniture caught on my dormer roof corner, flapping in the wind. I have no idea how to get it down, I think I may have to call someone with a long ladder to come and get it off. It's quite noisy as it flaps about so I do need it taken down.

No idea where it has comeflown in from 😮

Anyone in Pembrokeshire who can report what it’s like? MIL is on a hill about a mile from the sea (and doesn’t hear her phone so no point calling her in the morning).

I'm in south Pembs, 15 min walk from coast. Blowing a gale but no rain and we've still got electricity amazingly. I've not been outside yet though.

OrangesCinammonIvy · 07/12/2024 08:09

@spuddy4 maybe they felt scared alone or just can't break routine.
It's not fair though and puts pressure on everyone.

10 miles down the road from you and, yep we've had the house vibrating too.

Yes and it's gusty/rainy - amber area I believe.

No high tides expected so the storm boards on the prom haven't been deployed although the usual warnings about spray apply.

If you are going to someone's house it should be fine. It's not a day for a walk!

TheDogsMother · 07/12/2024 08:10

West Sussex here about 10 miles from the coast. I was woken up by the wind and rain at 6.30. I'm very much that the power stays on as our village is extremely prone to power cuts.

CoolHamster · 07/12/2024 08:11

Thank you @frizzyandfrazzled
We are going to a house.

ProbableDoris · 07/12/2024 08:11

@HelpMeGetThrough 👋 hope you get through it ok! My roof faces west so am hoping the tiles will be ok.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/12/2024 08:13

Just checked to see if my garden table is still in one piece, glass not broken so okay. Garden sheds still standing, bins lids flipped open.

If you're anywhere near Bath, I think it's mine! I can hear it somewhere but I can't see it...
The wind has really picked up now & the doors are doing that horrible 'sucky' thing. Can hear it coming down through all the trees on the hill behind us then it hits.
DH is fast asleep. I don't think he'd notice if the roof blew off.
@WeMeetInFairIthilien hello from the east!
Think the river will be lively this weekend!
There are usually a couple of vehicles who get caught out in our little high street car park when it bursts & I bet they're feeling a bit worried at Bradford on Avon 😬
Some of you on the coast must be getting absolutely battered. Stay safe!

👋🏻
Hi! I think you’re down the hill from me! All the roads out of my village have fallen trees, not that I was planning to go anywhere.
