I'm nowhere near any 'red' areas (south east London) but the winds have been fierce enough to wake me during the night and my metal, very heavy garden furniture has been thrown around, so I can't think how bad it must be elsewhere!

Agree, I’m in west London and it’s dreadful! We’ve had some pots blown over in the garden. It’s so loud! Can’t imagine a red or amber zone. Hope everyone keeps safe (and dry!)

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 07/12/2024 09:24

I live in ten flight path to Heathrow and planes are flying through it all. Glad I am not in them as it is very blowy here and pouring with rain.

Windswept24 · 07/12/2024 09:30

We're in Hampshire (inland not coast) and it's been worse than the one a few weeks ago. We had to secure a few things in the garden first thing and the cat is terrified :( we've had one event cancelled and are cancelling our back up plans and staying home

NI here (centre near lough neagh) where we had a yellow warning. Went to bed just after 1am and the wind was very mild, but within 10 minutes it was howling. Heard bins flying, gates rattling, and something hit the top of our bay window. Have never heard wind like it, yet we didn't even get it as bad as those in the west coast of Wales, England and Scotland. Stay safe everyone.

Yes, our cat spent last night looking out of every window in turn... this morning she's on my lap but won't rest, just grooming anxiously and farting lightly at intervals...

In north Cardiff so not right on the coast, but the trains are all cancelled and the Culverhouse Markies is closed to 1pm, which is a Big Deal...

Curtainqueen · 07/12/2024 09:47

West Essex, really noisy in the night. Bins thrown everywhere. Seems to have quietened down at the moment but supposed to get worse in a couple of hours. I haven't ventured past the end of the road yet but a couple of fences that came down in the last storm are down again.

Cattyisbatty · 07/12/2024 09:55

North London here and it was really windy during the night - woke me up a couple of times! It seems to have dropped a bit now but is forecast 40-50mph winds until tmw lunchtime. Joyous!

When I saw that I thought my mother is going to go apeshit, she was off to do her Christmas shop!

Extraspecial · 07/12/2024 09:55

I’m in South Wales right by the sea and it is horrendous here. No plans to go out today so doing the Christmas tree.

FantasticButtocks · 07/12/2024 10:01

North Devon coast and it's truly wild here! House shaking, enormous waves crashing... 😳

zingally · 07/12/2024 10:07

Right in the heart of England here.
Blowy and raining quite hard, but nothing especially extraordinary. I ventured out at 7:30 as normal to do the food shop. It was marginally quieter in there than normal, but fine.

Expecting a John Lewis lorry within the next 2 hours to deliver me a freezer! Fingers crossed!

MothToAnInferno · 07/12/2024 10:18

The storm is over here now, down to a yellow warning which isnt remarkable in the West of Ireland. We were unscathed, just had a single bin fall over. The sky is blue and the sun is shining now.

Been watching Big Jet TV from Heathrow and he was taking a battering stood on top of his vehicle. Had to stop live streaming to get another jacket.

That's my morning gone!!

Lol, I had some work to finish first thing this morning. But was transfixed. And I’m not even a fan of planes!

He’s enjoying himself today lost count how many times he’s said “this is insane!”😂

Likewise in my part of north London, so was able to get to the market without it taking half the usual time one way and twice the other!

If you have glass topped patio furniture, lie it down on grass or something.

They might be heavy but last time we had it bad loads of them were broken because it was assumed they wouldn't move. Not fun picking up glass until next summer!

Power has gone off a few times in the last 10mins. It’s come back on everytime - so far…. 🤞 pembs/ceredigion/carmarthenshire border.

power went off again at 8.30 this morning, it was expected to be back on at 2pm, that has now just changed to 7pm…. So we shall see…. 💁

5twomany · 07/12/2024 10:35

West Wales here we have a few houses with power cuts some trees down wind still howling and a missing head of my reindeer lights. My neighour has no electricity a buckled trampoline lost many decorations.

Mine didn't break, even though it flipped over the small wall onto the grass. Think the cover it had on it saved it, it's staying there till the wind dies down.

Nothatgingerpirate · 07/12/2024 10:45

Stay safe on the Welsh coast, OP.

SemmaLina · 07/12/2024 10:49

Carmarthenshire here too , it’s been rough !

The main road to town was closed earlier due to a fallen tree

Nice restaurant near us closed due to having no power , friends in a different village also have no power , not due back til 7pm like @NoBiscuitsLeftInMyTin said

We’ve had a few cuts of a minute or so , particularly funny when DH was shaving in the bathroom which has no windows ! He came toddling out dressed in a towel and shaving foam

The wind seems to have calmed down a bit now 🤞

DrCoconut · 07/12/2024 10:53

The lead on my roof has failed a couple of days ago. We now have a water feature in the attic 😫. Hoping the rain dies down until the roofer can get it fixed.

My Mam the same... 😆 Markies is like the ravens in the Tower of London to her... end of civilisation if it closes down...

AInightingale · 07/12/2024 11:03

Is it 'calming down' in Wales? I thought that in NI an hour ago, then the bastard wind came roaring back. It seems to be blowing around the British Isles in a sort of figure of eight pattern. Very weird.
