That alarm was something else… I thought nukes were heading for us!

AdoraBell · 06/12/2024 20:24

Raining and strong winds here, not far from Yeovil in Somerset. DD1 lives in Pontypridd and works in Cardiff.

SemmaLina · 06/12/2024 20:26

Yep , we had the screechy alert , so we lit a Christmas candle and topped up the wine glasses
Rain hammering down and very windy

NW coast of Lancashire here. I think we’ve only yellow but some pretty strong gusts hitting the windows.

All the best to everyone in the amber and red areas.

MeanderingGently · 06/12/2024 20:32

East Midlands here, nothing as yet. We're in the yellow alert zone so I don't expect more than the usual, probably same as last night.
Jealous of those of you who've had the red alert on your 'phone, nothing exciting happens on my 'phone, ever!!
Everything is closed around here for tomorrow, just in case.
I've done all my washing, tumble drying etc. this evening because our power is bound to go off tomorrow, we're so rural the power goes off regularly so I've come to expect that as normal....

MarmaladeSideDown · 06/12/2024 20:51

Western edge of East Anglia here, and it is raining with a bit of a breeze, and are due some wind overnight and all day tomorrow. Fingers crossed for all of you getting the brunt of it.

MothToAnInferno · 06/12/2024 21:41

I'm in the West of Ireland and the red warning is in full swing. It's very quiet outside now. It was far more blustery earlier on.

It's not very quiet on the Mayo coast! Howling wind, pelting rain - situation normal. Power still on!

@Threewheeler1 just walked round the block and it's drizzly and yukky but not that windy - yet! Ha yes that siren- I was on the loo!! Like someone else said I thought it was my carbon monoxide alarm !!

I spoke too soon! It's suddenly howling down the chimney.

ChristmasEveNotChristmasSteve · 06/12/2024 22:36

A bit blustery every now and then. Fairly light rain.

I live not far from Bristol, in a yellow warning area.

feellikeanalien · 06/12/2024 22:42

We're in a yellow warning area in the NE so not expecting much. It's dry and no rain at the moment so the cats are taking the opportunity to go out.

It doesn't take much for our power to go off though as we're pretty rural. Geese flying into the power cables took out the whole village once. We were off for about four days during Arwen but this year's storms seem to be affecting the west more, at least so far. The strongest winds are about 50 tomorrow so not major.

Hoping all of you in the red warning area stay safe.

AutoP1lot · 06/12/2024 22:49

Driving home in SE England (well DH is driving) and it's just drizzly here, barely a breeze.

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/12/2024 22:52

Very windy now in Somerset.

guineapigthyme · 06/12/2024 22:58

Yellow area here, due to move to amber from 1am, apparently. My house is making all sorts of noises but trying not to read too much into it as it's a bit squeaky whenever there's a light breeze. I only had my fence replaced last week after it fell down in the previous week's storm, and I know my roof isn't as new as it could be, so hopefully everything will be fine. I get so stressed out when it's windy that I can't sleep as I keep picturing all sorts of expensive chaos to deal with when I wake up! Is anyone else like this or am I just a wet blanket?!

poppym12 · 06/12/2024 23:01

It's pretty grim here on the Somerset coast and the red warning doesn't officially start until 3am.

Ohtonightyoukilledmewithyoureyes · 06/12/2024 23:03

How is Cornwall?

WillimNot · 06/12/2024 23:05

It's been very cold and rainy here in Wokingham. It's definitely hit trade tonight and last night, which sucks as we had a great week last week.

You can tell it's coming. I dread how bad trade will be tomorrow, lots of events have been cancelled for tomorrow as a result.

KittenOnTheTable · 06/12/2024 23:08

We've snow in the Highlands no wind yet. East Coast so it may mostly miss us

Toddlerteaplease · 06/12/2024 23:12

Wind and rain getting up when I left Leicester just over an hour ago. But calm in Nottingham.

BeardofHagrid · 06/12/2024 23:21

I’m in Hampshire and it’s pretty blustery out there, dreading being woken by the gales tonight.

APurpleSquirrel · 06/12/2024 23:28

Wind is picking up here - Somerset/Devon border. We're in the Amber area.
Meant to be going to Wookey Hole tomorrow & they've still not said they'll be closed!

Scutterbug · 06/12/2024 23:44

In a yellow zone. Wind has picked up, I just had to shut my bedroom window as it was rattling. Very annoying because I sleep really badly without fresh air!

NoBiscuitsLeftInMyTin · 06/12/2024 23:53

Power has gone off a few times in the last 10mins. It’s come back on everytime - so far…. 🤞 pembs/ceredigion/carmarthenshire border.
