Edge of London. Wind just died down. Maybe I'll be able to go back to sleep.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/12/2024 04:45

Somerset red zone here very windy but not deluging with rain. Everything still OK. The cats are cuddled up in bed with me and not worried.

MindBodySoul · 07/12/2024 04:47

Mid Devon and very windy

Windy enough to wake me here in London. We're only on a yellow warning so can only imagine how rough it is in the red warning areas.

Dontcallmescarface · 07/12/2024 04:51

Somerset (just on the red zone/amber boundary). Very windy, lights keep flickering but not raining too hard. DP needs to go and collect his meds this morning and he's really not looking forward to the 5 mile drive through the lanes.

Themostimportant · 07/12/2024 04:51

South wales here. Theres a constant roar from the sky, like a train or jet engine interspersed with very strong gusts. Our windows are creaking and clicking with each gust and I’m scared one will pop.
Theres lots of banging outside from bins and peoples gates.
Sat up in bed with DH and dog with a cuppa. No point in trying to sleep, it’s quite nerve wracking.

Worf · 07/12/2024 04:52

North Norfolk only yellow warning but quite windy

LivingDeadGirlUK · 07/12/2024 04:58

Its very very calm in Manchester, due to start up around 9am. I've got the window open because im hot and its so so quiet.

Colourblinds · 07/12/2024 05:05

Bit windy in London which has stopped me from falling back asleep.

North wales coast here. Amber zone but we are forecast gusts of 80mph+. For about 5 mins it was like @Themostimportant describes above. Now it's "just" like a normal bad storm.

yohohoCrimbo · 07/12/2024 05:14

Swansea valley here and about 6 miles from the coast. I can hear the roar in the air but the house seems sheltered from big gusts strangely enough.

Lubilu02 · 07/12/2024 05:14

Coastal Red zone in Somerset. It really is blowing a gale outside, I've never known sustained wind like this in the 20 years I've been here. I'm expecting a fair bit of distruption/debris out.
Can't imagine what the coasts are going to be like in the hours up to high tide mid morning!

yohohoCrimbo · 07/12/2024 05:15

We're in the red zone too, so I was bracing myself for more of a battering tbh.

Freddiefan · 07/12/2024 05:29

NW England near the coast. The wind and rain have just hit and I can hear things blowing over. We put our bins in the garage last night. I am worrying about my 17 year old GD driving to work.
The cat is sitting looking out of the bedroom window and is looking frightened.

VacuumPacked · 07/12/2024 05:34

Oxfordshire Plain here, nothing to impede the wind, 59 at the moment,
lying awake now worrying for my son who will be on the motorway tomorrow
travelling into Kent, although it seems quieter down there.
I hope everyone is safe to tonight and keeps their roofs.

good96 · 07/12/2024 05:37

Bridgwater and it is intense. Down in North Devon is worse though.

CissOff · 07/12/2024 05:40

South Wales is rough - we lost power an hour or so ago and it’ll be another couple before it’s restored apparently.

Monstersare · 07/12/2024 05:42

North Devon, facing the sea, nothing between us and the sea. I’ve not got up yet but the noise sounds like a standard winter storm, nothing too horrendous. I’ll wait and see what it looks like in the morning before passing final judgement though!

IsChristmasOverYetPlease · 07/12/2024 05:43

North London here and it’s windy and we had rain so heavy in the night that it woke me. Nothing like you people in the Red Zone. A sky that is ‘roaring like a jet plane’ is both scary and an incredible reminder of how powerful Earth is. Stay safe.

One lovely thing; I’m near the building site of a large block of flats. They’re wrapped in tarps and the sound of it blowing in the wind, along with some metal chains clinking, are remiscent of yatchs in harbour - quite a lovely sound to listen in the darkness with my early coffee in bed.

South west wales. Winds seem high and very strong but not quite as bad as forecast at the moment. I’m in a bit inland so I’ve no doubt it is rough at the coast. Lots of trees down and a few dangerous structure warnings. We still have quite a way to go though

Threewheeler1 · 07/12/2024 06:15

If you're anywhere near Bath, I think it's mine! I can hear it somewhere but I can't see it...
The wind has really picked up now & the doors are doing that horrible 'sucky' thing. Can hear it coming down through all the trees on the hill behind us then it hits.
DH is fast asleep. I don't think he'd notice if the roof blew off.
@WeMeetInFairIthilien hello from the east!
Think the river will be lively this weekend!
There are usually a couple of vehicles who get caught out in our little high street car park when it bursts & I bet they're feeling a bit worried at Bradford on Avon 😬
Some of you on the coast must be getting absolutely battered. Stay safe!

PaterPower · 07/12/2024 06:26

West Midlands, just to the south of Brum. Very strong winds and driving rain, which is quite nice to hear when you’re tucked up, but difficult to sleep through.

Our fence looks ok for the moment, but I can see things in the garden which must have blown in from the neighbours.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/12/2024 06:31

My garden table flipped over the small wall, think I should have taken the cover off. Dogs were not impressed going out for a pee, can't go back to sleep now.

CatDogGuineaPig · 07/12/2024 06:34

I have to drive from Suffolk to Surrey this morning.. thought it would be fine but it does sound really, really, really windy
