What do you drink before a night out?

What alcoholic predrinks do you and your friends have before a night out? I'm looking for inspiration as it's been a while since I've been out! I'm thinking white wine or prosecco however I tend to drink them too slowly..

Why does everything have to turn into a mud slinging exercise on here?
I answered the OP's question, I don't drink anything before I go out....I drink wine and maybe a liqueur or two after I finish eating when I am out...but that wasn't the question.

Not that many replies (that I have read) were 'pissing on her chips' I certainly wasn't, surely not everyone has to agree with everyone else.

But her question wasn't 'do you drink before a night out' it was 'what should we drink before our night out'. So you weren't answering her question anyway

Lots of posts on the thread claiming only students / teenagers do this which is judgemental to me

'Do' not 'should'.

We can all be pedantic.😎

Cider while I'm getting ready usually but as it's Christmas maybe a baileys or two or a cocktail!

People that can't enjoy themselves without alcohol are boring. Have a sober night out, you'll realise how annoying drunk people are.

But people who post on MN adding no value to the discussion just wanting to relish in their own smugness and trying to shame the OP are the height of social sophistication, I'm sure your company is dazzling.

Bbq1 · 06/12/2024 14:08

Taking 4 hours to get ready is something I did in my 20's and 30's
Getting ready to go out was an event. Don't get me wrong, I still bother in my 50's although it takes an hour or so now but I do it in increments. Pre drinks was never on my agenda, drunk plenty when out. I don't drink anymore.
Op, calling people "boring" or saying they live under a rock is really immature and unpleasant. I know you're almost 40 but you sound about 16. Choosing not to drink or not to have predrinks does not make people boring. Grow up.

And yet some of the first responses to the OP was that her 'children do but not since uni' implying OP is juvenile and the 'another saying 'no because I'm not 18' - implying the same. So, a little bite back from OP is justified. And let's face it, there are many a fun sponge on MN who think anyone with a bit of joy in their lives are I mature cretins who will never amount to the magical world of 'adulthood'. Perhaps it's not the OP who needs to 'grow up'.

But that isn't answering her question in the spirit it was meant is it. Which was very clearly "we are planning to have a drink, what should we have". So answers saying "I don't drink before I go out" are completely missing the point. It's as if people read the thread title but not the actual OP.

SallyWD · 06/12/2024 14:35

I don't think I'm boring at all. I'm very sociable. I don't take long to get ready (never more than 30 minutes). I can't imagine what someone does that would take hours. I've never been a glamorous woman. I do like to look nice, I wear a bit of make up and style my hair but I've never had my nails done, or my brows.
I do love a drink but at 50 I know my limits. I know if I start drinking before I go out, I'll end up drinking too much overall so I try and pace myself.
I live life to the full. I've been out four evenings this week! I don't like the assumption that because you don't spend hours getting ready or don't drink before you leave the house, you must be "boring".

LuckySantangelo35 · 06/12/2024 14:48

@SallyWD

You really don’t know how it could take longer to get ready than 30 mins? Really?

Brush teeth, shower, shave, wash hair, dry hair, style hair, put makeup on, put on false lashes, apply instant bronzer to body, paint nails or apply press on nails, get dressed, get bag together, have a cheeky pre-drink.

there you go.

Ok, fair enough. But this is like another world to me - bronzer, false lashes, press on nails. Fair play to anyone who enjoys all this.
My point was more about OP calling people boring because they don't do these things.

Butternutsqoosh · 06/12/2024 15:02

I have a glass or 2 of Prosecco while I'm getting ready because I'm a tight arse 😁🥂

Sheknowsaboutme · 06/12/2024 15:16

My 20 yr old will have “prees” in her uni house

im 50, i dont do that. Ill stick to single vodka and tonic, and look at my watch thinking when i can go home 😂

Takes me 45 mins to dry my hair! Every time, not just when i go out. I need 2 hours because of that😂

You see, I didn't actually realise that people wash their hair immediately before they go out! I could never do this because my hair is so "big" and flyaway after I wash it. I like to wash my hair the day before a night out, to give it time to calm down a bit.

Mine is naturally curly and requires slow diffusing. Otherwise i look like if been dragged through a bush. Love fresh hair for a night out.

I might invest in a plastic headscarf 😂

I do love the idea of a plastic headscarf!

Oh god yeah I have to wash my hair just before I go out. It takes forever to dry and straighten (and it's not even particularly long!).

Also factor in painting nails and sitting doing nothing (for what feels like an eternity) waiting for them to dry.

I would say 2-2.5 hours for me but that includes faffing around quite a bit.

LuckySantangelo35 · 06/12/2024 15:46

I hate painting my nails…so boring waiting for them to dry

No, I started yesterday for a night out tomorrow. Nails done last night because I was taking old chipped polish off so thought I might as well do the new while I was at it so 48 hours.

fiualdje · 06/12/2024 16:26

@ExquisiteDecorations ok you win! Sounds like a good excuse to have a bottle of Prosecco on the go for 2 days straight!

LikeThatNotThat · 06/12/2024 22:50

@Littleguggi I wanna come partying with you! I'm nearly 45 but still enjoy getting ready, pre drinks, going Out Out!

Valkyrie3 · 06/12/2024 23:43

A lot of people are being very sanctimonious with their 'I'm not 18" kind of replies.

I like to have a drink before going out as it gets you in a sociable mood and is all part of the fun build up - music on, li'l drink of prosecco while you put some make up on, choose an outfit and start to look fabulous!
And I'm not 18. Thank god.

No, the question in the OP was 'What do you drink before a night out?'. So 'nothing' is a perfectly valid answer to that question.

Unless it's served with a dollop of sanctimony and self-congratulation that is. Then it becomes something else.
