but I would hate to be a premier league footballer questioning my sexuality right now.

And what about being a Muslim footballer of faith right now? Do you that would be easy??

I reallt think you are falling for Stonewall's duplicity in force-teaming the LBG with the T.

It is Stonewall's gender ideology, tactics and undermining of the rights of women and children that MN posters are clearly having a problem with, not being lesbian, gay or bi. Stonewall can't even define the T (it famously included 'cross-dressers'), and has done much more harm than good - as many LGB commentators have attested.

And Stonewall has ruined Pride and what it meant.

Forcing people to wear a political statement that goes against their entire faith and philosophy is bullying, and isn't letting people 'live in peace'. Blame the activists who will ostracise those who don't comply, for causing us all to get sick of it.

You are attacking the wrong people.

Thankfully the days of No Debate are over & the pushback against such policing of language & enforcement of pronouns, flags etc is gone.. The world has had an "emperors new clothes "awakening & will not be forced to parcipate in any social & political activism .

Pushing a belief? A belief of tolerance?

Stonewall is not very tolerant of those who don't dance to its tune though. If I'm reading your post correctly.

Well not exactly tolerant if the players don't want to wear the rainbow shirts.
This gimmick has backfired big time 🤣

The thing as, any closeted gay lads in the dressing room are already well aware that Rainbow armbands are meaningless and that team mates forced to wear them will not magically become supporters of gay rights.

Rainbow Laces Campaign has always been a pointless virtue signal, all that’s happened this week is for the signal to visibly and publicly fail.

I really do care about the well being of young same sex attracted people, especially those who are existing in cultures where they feel unable to come out (whether that be Football culture or an Orthodox family or anything else) but Stonewall’s model of forced compliance hasn’t helped those young people, it’s at best done nothing, and at worse, it’s hurt them.
What it has done is make lots of very well paid jobs at Stonewall.

To use a Wizard of Oz ism, paying no attention to the man behind the curtain doesn’t make the man behind the curtain stop existing. Making the curtain a rainbow colour doesn’t change that.

Yup. In fact, I do wonder if it has the opposite effect. ie the footballers resent having to do it so build more resentment against gay team members.

It could be really dangerous in that way.

I wish they’d all just play football.

This. Most of them have brains the size of peanuts. They have no business promoting political causes. They should just kick the round thing into the netted hole as many times as they can and leave it at that.

CocoapuffPuff · 04/12/2024 20:33

Why is nobody mad at the rest of the team for refusing to wear the jacket? This fella was quite prepared to wear the team kit alone, and didn't try to stop the others wearing the rainbow top, from what I've read. So why aren't the rest wearing the rainbow top? And why is this one player being singled out when the rest clearly aren't that passionate about the rainbow representation.
Maybe they just want to play football ....

It’s the libertarian ‘woke’ way - you must be tolerant of us, but we won’t tolerate your different opinion. In fact we will ostracise you. Call you a ‘hater’. And do our best to get you sacked or cancelled.
Hypocrites.

Its not tolerance if its forced under threat of being bullied and attacked, maybe even their contract terminated.

All it takes is one strong voice to say, I don't agree & I'm opting out. The others could have but didn't . Good on them. It's a really good example to youth that you should never be pushed out of your comfort zone if you are not behind a cause.

@Happyhoppy15 You misunderstood me. My comment was about the fact that with more Muslims will mean less bullying of Muslims and yes less forcing and bullying people to promote something they don't believe in. I am very pro-LGB, but there is something truly ugly and horrific in the lack of religious intolerance and the Islamophobia that the LGBT (mainly T) activists are promoting. And the bullying of anyone who does not feel comfortable advertising their political beliefs. NO ONE should be forced to go against their beliefs, whether it be religious beliefs, or LGB beliefs.

Wait.... what?!?? I can tell you the posts that I have seen which are mostly from black and brown men is absolutely disgusting

Wow. Wtf?!??? 😦😡 What a disgracefully RACIST thing to say! I am truly horrified and disgusted that you even typed that, and pressed send!

Edited

i wasn’t meaning your post at all. I think my message has totally got lost on this post which wasn’t my intention at all. And I am saddened to see that you felt my post was racist. I apologise as that was 100% not my intention. Like homophobia I cannot stand racism and Islamophobia either and I am saddened that my comment has been taken that way. I could have worded that a lot better

I logged on to my social media and seen comments like that which broke my heart and the people who I did see posting them was what I stated. I came on to mumsnet and was probably very sensitive to what was being said. Maybe I have been naive to what I have seen on social media

i absolutely agree with you re no one being forced to go against their believes. What I wish was that we had a world of total tolerance and kindness.

So.. All footballers are stupid because they happen to be good at football?

At which age do football loving children's brains fall out? Are 9 year olds playing kickabout in the park with their mates all peanut brains too? Or do they turn stupid when they're 15? 21? What if you're a 35 year old doctor and you like to play amateur football on a Sunday? Would she be a peanut brain too?

I have no time for football culture but you'd have to be pretty stupid yourself if you write all footballers off as idiots because of their career.

Havalona · 04/12/2024 20:41

I often wonder how many workplaces would tolerate an employee coming to work in a blue/yellow/red T shirt with the Conservative/Liberal/Labour logo on it, advocating their policies and so on. Ah no, that kind of political activism is not cricket in the workplace. Well certainly in mine it wasn't, ever.

So what's the difference between that and the Pride/Stonewall stuff?

(OK maybe some workplaces allowed that sort of thing, if so I stand to be corrected.) 😊

As do rugby players.

Very true. Awareness, campaigning and fund raising for that should happen. Mind you both ruling bodies have plenty of money sloshing around to help in this area one wonders why they don't appear to care enough to use some of it.

Yes on the rare “dress down” Fridays allowed in many different offices I worked in clothing with any slogans on was not allowed.

This is the crux of it for me.

I completely agree in most contexts, but in professional football a song and dance is very much needed because it is a homophobic environment. It’s a bit like how 20 years ago there were places where it was very difficult for a woman to work because of the endemic sexism.

Do you complain publicly like this when the transactivists go after Terfs and make banners about killing them?

I don't agree with homophobia or treating people badly but respect can't just be one sided. Your comment makes me wonder if you have been vocal when it's straight women on the receiving end of horrific comments and threats.

And making players wear jerseys who don't want to is going to make the environment even more toxic for the lgb community.

No song or dance needed. Activism especially cheap gimmicks like forcing players to wear rainbow shirts have no place in sports. This one has backfired spectacularly with most in agreement that this man is absolutely correct in exerting his automony & saying No. He is a wonderful role model for doing this & will inspire many young people to do likewise.

Exactly this.

When the TRAs refrain from using violence and intimidation to silence their dissenters then we’ll talk tolerance.

And when they stop infiltrating female designated private spaces, toilets & sports teams & start advocating for their own.

When they stop encroaching on & demanding women's rights to apply to them & start actively lobbying for trans rights to have their own trans sports teams & designated trans spaces .

Also when they stop riding on the lgb coat tails to further their own agenda.
