Once the T went into the rainbow, the sun never shone for me again on that cause.

TheWiseFish · 04/12/2024 13:48

@womenssports it's no longer the rainbow in it's original shape though representing the lgb community, all different umbrellas fit under it now.
I'd love to see the original, retro rainbow flag solely representing the lgb community who have been completely overshadowed & associated with the tq

As a bisexual woman I sincerely hope he stands his ground and that more do, too. I went to a national trust place a few weeks ago and there were bloody rainbow lanyards everywhere. It's all just paying lip service to diversity without any genuine shits about those of us who aren't heterosexual, and anyway, the whole rainbow Pride thing has been co-opted by woman-hating arseholes.

I am sad for the humble rainbow TBH, it never asked to be appropriated for this political bullshit.

I can't stand how it seems to be promoting fetishism.
I said as much on a childcarer forum and was told I was a homophobe and shouldn't be allowed in charge of children,
oh the irony

Good for him.
Why can't they have a jacket for disability awareness, Alzheimer's awareness, or any one of the other myriad of disadvantaged groups that face discrimination?

Because it's part of the "kick homophobia out of football" campaign.

There's not a lot of anti-Alzheimer-ism in football, as far as I'm aware.

I’m not bisexual but otherwise this sums up my stance.

There's a hell of a lot of homophobia hiding behind the appropriated rainbow "Pride" flag though so it's not really an effective symbol to achieve the stated aim.

1983Louise · 04/12/2024 13:53

Good for him, he's standing up for his beliefs, more of us should do the same.

iwishihadaname · 04/12/2024 13:53

One player wore the captain rainbow armband with I love Jesus on it He is now in trouble for wearing something that is banned under the same rule that should cover the banning of rainbow armbands

Well the players should not be forced out of their comfort zone. Good on him, hopefully more will follow suit, push back & refuse if they don't want to participate in virtue signalling.

needsomewarmsunshine · 04/12/2024 13:58

One of my sons is gay but hates the whole rainbow nonsense. He calls it attention seeking and totally pointless since it's been hijacked by all and sundry.
Not that he was ever a fan anyway.

ByMerryKoala · 04/12/2024 13:58

Well, this is going to be as awkward as it was inevitable.

leafybrew · 04/12/2024 14:00

This whole thread makes me want to wear a rainbow shirt/ badge whatever all the time.

No - not ‘good for him’

Why is it good to be homophobic? These attitudes have persisted in football.

Its the 21st century now - let’s crack on.

needsomewarmsunshine · 04/12/2024 14:03

Those jackets are totally hideous, who the hell thought of that design? Totally headache inducing and if I didn't know through this thread I won't know what the fuck they represented anyway. Nor would I care, just looks totally stupid.

He's not being homophobic, he's following his own religious beliefs.

Would you expect Christian/Gay/atheist players to wear a shirt celebrating Muslims?

Good for him. This enforced compliance with all things LGBT/Trans/Rainbow/Pinkwashing is very troubling and sinister.

How is it sinister to show support to the LGBT community. Especially in men's football which has a huge homophobia issue.

Margorett · 04/12/2024 14:04

Good for him

username299 · 04/12/2024 14:05

I don't understand why it's great to be homophobic which he obviously is. Another player got into trouble for writing about Jesus on an LGBTQ arm band.

Football has suffered from entrenched homophobia for decades, I always saw their campaign as positive.

Why should he wear something he doesn't want to? End of. There is a huge pushback against this type of virtue signalling.

I hope the stand that this footballer has taken makes children, teens & adults realise they can just say No if something is against their principles, religion or simply makes them feel uncomfortable. Good on him.

why does it mean homophobia if you don't support the huge money making corporate behemoth which is Pride?

If your religion precludes anybody then it’s your religion you should be questioning.

Maybe he simply likes to just treat everyone respectfully and equally? A few years ago only Black Lives Mattered, now it's all about Trans this and that. Woe betide if you go through life not championing one group over another you'll be pilloried.
Perhaps all this rainbow this and that, BLM the other should stop putting some groups above others and treat everyone the same. It won't happen though as those trumpeting all these things like to create division and hate.

For many of us, the pride rainbow now symbolises women hating. It is very brave and courageous of him to oppose it. I’m amazed at your comment given your username.

CheeseNPickle3 · 04/12/2024 14:11

I think it was a mistake to say that none of the players were going to wear the jackets because he didn't. I think they all should have had a choice to wear it or not to.

Whether rainbow jackets /disability awareness or whatever should be part of football players' kit is a separate matter. It was there as an option and should have been allowed for those who wanted it. No judgement on the players either way.

AuldCurmudgeon · 04/12/2024 14:11

Good. Enough corporate virtue signalling.
