Does everyone have a TV in their bedroom?

Lost the signal to the bedroom TV. Might be the storms I don't know but can't get any channels, and have now removed the TV.

Seems abit strange, but have got the radio instead and Spotify.

Not sure I'm going to bother replacing the bedroom TV, might just do without?

Has everyone got a bedroom TV?
What are your likes and dislikes about a TV in your room?
Anyone like me, not bothered to replace?

No.

RedRiverShore5 · 04/12/2024 06:51

Yes, where else would DH watch his sport.

WoahThreeAces · 04/12/2024 06:52

I use the TV in my bedroom loads. Weekends I chill in my room watching Netflix, often watch TV in the evening before bed (although have had a break from that for a few months to see if my sleep improves, it hasn't and I'm really missing my wind down TV time! I don't know how long to wait to see if it really does make a difference!)
I love a lazy morning with the telly on.. and if I'm ill then it's a source of comfort - I rewatch favourite shows to help with anxiety too.

I don't have it connected to the aerial, it's a smart TV so Netflix or the channels like iPlayer / 4OD etc

I'd really miss the bedroom TV if I didn't have it.

My kids don't want TVs in their room. But they all have computers so I guess they can watch stuff on there if they want. I think they watch on their phones too.

In short, I love my big bedroom TV 😃

LaPalmaLlama · 04/12/2024 06:53

I used to ( bought a house with one in situ) and I did quite like it for a 9pm telly hour before bed but the temptation is always to watch “one more episode” and then it’s 2am and you still don’t know what happens in Slow Horses because you fell asleep half way through the last episode. We moved and no TVs in bedrooms now.

PrincessOfPreschool · 04/12/2024 06:54

No bedroom TV. I can't think of anything worse. I don't think DH would get up at weekends!

Merrymess · 04/12/2024 06:56

Yes, one of lifes pleasures is watching TV in bed in the winter. We have always had a TV in the bedroom.

iridescentsnowflake · 04/12/2024 06:59

No, I’ve never had a tv in my bedroom in my life. Neither do the DC.

wastingtimeonhere · 04/12/2024 07:05

I have. My sleep has been dire since the start of menopause, I end up putting it on, then dropping off. If I don't, I lay awake all night ruminating over a conversation/incident/random thingI had up to 40 years ago that meant nothing, but my memory hangs on to

SnapdragonToadflax · 04/12/2024 07:07

No, not since I was living in a houseshare 20 years ago. I do have the entire internet on my phone though, so it's not really necessary...

Curiossir · 04/12/2024 07:08

No. Not since living in a non-shared domicile 20 odd years ago.

Coffeebreakneeds · 04/12/2024 07:09

We have one, but it's in the end of the bed so you can't see it unless you raise it to watch it. We very rarely do but it's there if we want to. DC never had one in their rooms growing up, they had one in their playroom which had a sofabed for sleepovers and only used it to watch a film, it never went on for the sake of it. Now they are older they have one in their rooms. My eldest often watches something with his girlfriend at weekends, normally a series that they know we won't want to watch. We all watch things together downstairs.

violetcuriosity · 04/12/2024 07:10

I was always on the side of bedrooms are for reading, resting and sex but since having our second we've had a big one put on the wall at the end of the bed and haven't looked back 😂. So many weekend mornings with the kids tucked between us watching crap while we sleep for longer 🤣

Skyrainlight · 04/12/2024 07:15

I don't. I don't like TVs in the bedroom, I think it impacts sleep. If I want to watch TV in bed I'll use my laptop, but usually I just watch YouTube vids on my laptop in bed, for actual TV I watch elsewhere.

Puffinlamb23 · 04/12/2024 07:16

I do, but it is used very rarely, maybe two or three times a year when I'm feeling unwell.

LightSpeeds · 04/12/2024 07:17

No

turkeymuffin · 04/12/2024 07:18

We do have one in our room but I literally NEVER watch it. It's there for DH who has illnesses and periodically spends longer in bed than normal.
None in kids rooms.

Scooby2024 · 04/12/2024 07:19

Have one but only really gets used for Saturday morning cartons by DS.

BarbedButterfly · 04/12/2024 07:20

We do. I have a chronic illness though and am bed bound a fair bit so that is the main reason

Isthereanypointtoallthis · 04/12/2024 07:20

Only one ( small) tv in the house.
But there is a radio in every room, bar the bathrooms.
I've never had a tv in the bedroom and have always preferred listening to the radio to watching tv.

MeanderingGently · 04/12/2024 07:22

I wouldn't be without a TV in the bedroom these days, never had one when I was younger.

On winter nights it's lovely to curl up in bed and watch an evening show there instead of in the living room, I often fall fast asleep while watching. Why sleep on the sofa when I can just drift off in bed?

I also find having the faint murmur of talk in the background sends me to sleep. If I ever wake in the early hours I turn a "talk" news programme on and I'm drifting off in no time! Not music (can't stand background music at any time of day or night) and nothing noisy or dramatic (too loud) but the rhythm of conversation, on very low volume, is extremely soporific and lulls me to sleep every time!
Must be an age thing!

RosesAndHellebores · 04/12/2024 07:23

No TVs in any bedrooms here. As I get older I would like one but DH disagrees.

My rationale is that if I put on the TV downstairs after dinner, I am nodding off within 20 minutes. As I find it hard to sleep when I go to bed, I would welcome the potentially soporific effect.

Superhansrantowindsor · 04/12/2024 07:25

No. I prefer to keep my room quiet.

Pawtucketbrew · 04/12/2024 07:28

Yes and I bloody love it. Single parent and love nothing better than watching movies in bed at the weekend. I work full time so it's a huge treat for me to stay in bed. DD did get an old small one for watching movies but she rarely uses it as prefers a tablet.

I spend most of my day on a laptop so don't really want to watch stuff on a laptop at night.

I'm an academic so get enough highbrow reading done during the day as this seems to be a reason some people have given.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 04/12/2024 07:31

I have tvs in almost every room. Even the main bathroom! When we bought the house dh had ideas of me laying in bed with a coffee of a morning and watching tv or having a leisurely bath and watching a movie. We went and had kids though so it's never happened 😝. He's got one in his workshop and that's never on either. We live in hope lol.

Plastictrees · 04/12/2024 07:31

No, I have a slightly irrational hatred of TV’s in bedrooms! I had a TV in my room as a teenager but not as an adult.
