Chris Evans after Gregg Wallace - too big to fail?

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4839335/chris-evans-sexual-harassment-bbc-flash/

Should we be looking again at Chris Evans since the quite right disgrace of Wllace?
Switched on virgin radio and Chris had apiece about the North East and Hadrians wall on his allegedly topical breakfast show. Someone definitely keeping his head down.

I agree with Gregg taking a step back but is fine for Chris Evans to address behaviour in the past or is he too big to fail?

It really comes down to whether people feel he should be punished for things he did 20 years ago or because he's cleaned up his act he is able to get away with it.

What punishment would work? Virgin Radio sacking him? Enough people being disgusted that they tune out of his radio show and he’s sacked for poor figures?

I am not being snarky, I am genuinely curious as to how this might work on something like this where he no longer works at the place it happened.

Sexual harassment cases often result in financial compensation to victims from the company liable.

If companies are held liable, maybe they might actually clean their act up.

This also ultimately applies to owners of companies.

I don't know TBH - it's a tough one. On the face of it he seems like a completely different person to the man who worked on TFI but to the person who is accusing him it might feel very different.

I mean the accusations are horrible, poor woman.

Thanks - yes, that makes sense as I know the current owners of Harrods are paying some compensation to Al Fayed’s work-related victims.

I guess Ginger Productions might need to make settlements pertaining to TFI and DFYT. The Big Breakfast must have been a different company unless C4 made it directly.

ETA: Planet 24, co founded by Bob Geldof, now owned by Carlton Productions.

It’s worth noting that the woman in question went to the police in 2016, there’s no indication that she’s looking to reopen matters. The OP of this thread just used the old article to start a talking point.

Compared to someone like Savile or Brand, I find everyone seems to be overreacting to this kind of verbal. No it’s not right but the righteousness of some is astounding. Really, most of today’s youngsters would have a meltdown at living in the 70’s/80’s, yet it really wasn’t that bad. All seem to be very poor me, I’m a victim, no balls of steel in this day and age. Seriously we’ll be walking around not daring to look or speak to each other for fear of recrimination. Ridiculous. Call out the real criminals.

Have you read the latest Ggreg news? Inappropriate touching and flashing. You think women should put up with this? Fucking hell.....

Maybe, just maybe we are starting to be able to call these men out. It has never been acceptable behaviour, just sadly many got away with it as it was seen as "banter".

Do you not think harassment should be called out? Stamped out?

And another one whose illiterate.

It wasn't all verbal.

If people had been able to call out Saville's very well publicised creepy behaviour, or if it had raised alarm bells at the BBC that it wasn't normal for someone to behave like he did, he might have been prevented from doing the really awful things. Its possible to be too prudish. But an atmosphere where someone is able to make inappropriate jokes to colleagues, expose themselves to young staff members is going to make it easier for worse stuff to be done just out of sight.

Banter is just that ..banter..harassment is different ..as long as it actually is harassment..one persons perception can be quite warped on the meaning of harassment..think nag by your partner..I asked once and I’m nagging..real nagging is repetitive ..as is harassment. Sorry I don’t think banter is reason to ‘call’ someone out on.

It was called out but it was ignored. Humongous difference between savile and Wallace. Young staff are not totally innocent.

SheilaFentiman · 05/12/2024 16:04

It’s not banter if only one person thinks it is, and if the other person finds it offensive and intimidating.

The “joke” about rapists and foreplay - is that banter, in your eyes?

What does “young staff are not totally innocent” mean, in the context of a senior person at work exposing his penis to them?

No I’m far from illiterate, but I have not seen actual bodily harm written in the news about Wallace. Please copy and paste for me to read. And pray if we ever meet, please remember to speak to me as you would typing behind your keyboard.

SheilaFentiman · 05/12/2024 16:08

“actual bodily harm”

As in the charge of ABH? Is that your bar? Is it OK to grab someone’s arse without consent if you don’t leave a bruise, then? Or indecent exposure - that’s fine too, because no one got a scratch?

NordicwithTeen · 05/12/2024 16:18

Chris Evans seems like a massive know it all any time i hear his show. He is clever but really rude to his co workers and clearly has to always have the last word. You can hear him belittling the men too, so I doubt a 15/16/17/18yo Billy Piper would have been able to hold her own.

And again, I’m not defending him, But, I have brushed past colleagues at work, accidentally brushed boobs etc, other women, they’re not so precious to think I’m making advances even though we laugh about it, oops soz boob brush, it happens. And yes I’m a woman. Maybe not in this case but it happens. As do men’s flies being undone., see it all the time, I’m not offended or think it’s a power play thing, I feel until he admits it, it’s innocent. If you’re gonna really pick on what someone says, how about Rod Stewart raging about his wife in this case, what about his innuendos on stage in his songs etc? Really people, innocent until proven.

SheilaFentiman · 05/12/2024 17:33

Have you accidentally got your tits out covered only with a pair of tights at work, @schtompy ?

And we all know the difference between someone brushing past us accidentally and someone pushing their genitals against us deliberately. Don’t be disingenuous.

SheilaFentiman · 05/12/2024 17:34

They’re precious, I should know I work with enough of them and will start an argument in the mirror.
and again innocent until proven guilty
