I think Chris looks like he’d rather be anywhere else in the world.

What do people think about this. I can’t believe it’s still a thing in our modern society. Being presented to society in a debutante ball. How very antiquated.

Oh i detest such utter outdated snobbery. Disgusted with both her parents for raisng her in this way and embracing this "entitlement", she's not been brought up nicely with manners or respect or gratitude or how to make a difference in the world (when she could, given the wealth). That much is obvious. Shame on them. Or should that be congratulations on raising a total brat. I've no respect for people like these. And she will see that most other decent people won't have either. Sad.

LentilJam · 06/12/2024 09:43

Apple doesn't seem too pleased with her date, he got the biggest eye roll from Apple 😂And her PR team is working hard to reverse her mean girl image. I feel a bit for her parents.

Aliénor on the other hand seems pretty classy.

T1Dmama · 06/12/2024 12:47

Is it really any different to any of us splashing out for a birthday party? Some people make a huge thing of 16th and 18th birthdays.. huge 30th/40th birthdays etc…

WinterCarlisle · 06/12/2024 13:45

From the DM article attached by @LentilJam

Renouard invites her guests based on their appearance, intelligence, and family connections.

Nice. “Appearance and intelligence”. How lovely. 🤬

User14March · 06/12/2024 14:01

I think some of the values absorbed from ‘elite’ southern Universities don’t help. The ‘best’ sororities value looks & family wealth above everything else. Social status is all. If you’re not in a good sorority there many see you as a loser on some level. You and sorority sisters are there for each other & future philanthropists of country club life but privately absorb their superiority.

ThePoshUns · 06/12/2024 14:32

I haven't seen either video before, she doesn't come across well in either.
Still she is a young woman, we all make mistakes in our youth she shouldn't be crucified online because of this.

Lallydallydune · 06/12/2024 17:11

She's very beautiful.

Pupinskipops · 07/12/2024 19:42

Gross.

I think she is walking out at the time that she is meant to.

She is not pushing any other woman out of the way.

Hopeles5 · 07/12/2024 20:37

Lily Collins did the same thing in Paris about 10 or 12 years ago.

LunaNorth · 07/12/2024 20:47

What a load of old shit.

LilacSwan · 08/12/2024 07:52

I don't understand why she was invited. Gwyneth isn't royalty and Martin is just an ageing pop star. She looked uncomfortable among all that establishment glamour, which is why she had a sulk and a minor tantrum.

LlynTegid · 08/12/2024 08:33

Very surprised this is still something that happens.

kerstina · 08/12/2024 09:00

Maybe Apple is a big fan of Bridgerton and just fancied it ? The dress seems very disposable fashion with the big bow that is fashionable with younger people.
Thanks to the person who linked the photo of Apple as a young girl. Show me the child and all that( with the sulky expression. )At least it proves her lips are natural.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 08/12/2024 09:51

I thought it was a new piece of tech being launched.

Sorry but I hadn't heard of her before this. Probably instantly forget her too.

Can you tell I don't keep up with celebrity stuff? 🤷‍♀️

pandp · 08/12/2024 11:18

Seems a bit like 'auctioning ' your daughter to the highest bidder, in my opinion totally unacceptable.

Phil Collin's daughter, Phil from the East End. Who is her mum, I'm sure she's not from rich stock. Oh it all just stinks of I'm rich, I'm a catch, look at me looking for my rich partner...

I don't think it really is a thing anymore is it? And it was an upper class thing which Chris Martin definitley is not. They might just be a bit 'naive' but it just seems 'desperate', they are desperately trying to cling on to wealth by marrying off their daughter to someone 'rich' or 'important'. They probably think they're the smart ones and we're all idiots but cringe.

Well did your parents invite count viscount biscuit bourbon de crème cassis to escort you at a ball? Are you participating in social events on basis of wealth and connections. No?
Don’t draw inane comparisons

anxiousmessallday · 08/12/2024 20:11

They did this on gossip girl, I didn't even realise it actually happened in real life!

Erm, debutante balls have been around or 250 years. So a bit before Gossip Girl.

anxiousmessallday · 08/12/2024 20:27

Aw, that comment was going so well. Lighthearted and humorous. Then it went all rude and condescending. Shame that …

bringbacksideburns · 08/12/2024 21:03

Gwnneth’s gone full Dowager Countess on us! I’m expecting to hear her gasp ‘ A Handbag!!’ In her best Maggie Smith voice.

Whatever. Looking at that old film - did they really have to curtsy like that by bending down so low they nearly head butted the floor? ( Reminds me of when Meghan was taking the piss in that interview,)

What are the toff equivalent things nowadays in the UK? Is it still hunt balls and gay Gordons in castles. I do find it fascinating.
