How often do you change your bedsheets?

I change my bedsheets every week, no matter the weather. After a week, they just start to feel dirty, and I can’t stand it. I recently came across a discussion where people in an office shared how often they change theirs, and the answers ranged from every two weeks to as long as 2-3 months! I can’t wrap my head around that—anything beyond two weeks feels unhygienic to me. What about you?

Once a fortnight. People who say they do it more often than that are either full of shit, or have too much time on their hands

It takes me 10 mins on a Sunday and that's a super king bed. If I was going to pick a chore I would avoid it would be oven cleaning!

No DC and Sundays I use for cleaning, shopping and batch cooking

Hedgerow2 · 01/12/2024 23:23

Whenever it crosses my mind - usually when I notice how much dog hair there is on the bedding.

Every time there's a thread on Mumsnet about changing the sheets 😜

Is burning environmentally friendly then? Wot about toxic gases?

SnoopySantaPaws · 01/12/2024 23:28

Every leap year, whether they need it or not.

Weekly baths minimum, usually twice weekly in summer, but more often if I can be arsed & it's a good crying day.

XenoBitch · 01/12/2024 23:28

Once a month, after my period has finished.
I have a dog who sleeps on my bed too, but she lays on a separate blanket.

Littleme2023 · 01/12/2024 23:29

Every week, more often in the summer when we’re hot sweaty and naked, plus easier to get them dry etc.

Petergriffinschins · 01/12/2024 23:29

Once a week.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 01/12/2024 23:30

Every other weekend, I don’t sweat too much in bed, because if I get too hot I’ll just sleep with out them. I don’t have time to do every week, so I’m happy with every 2 weeks

Gillettethebest · 01/12/2024 23:34

Surely Op you realise it can also depend on peoples circumstances and some people may need to change a bed more or less frequently?

For instance person A may sleep in a bed themselves with no pets and shower every night before bed.

Person B might have pets that sleep in the bed , not shower at the end of the day/daily, and have a new man in the bed every other night 😉 😂

That often? How do you ever get anything else done?!

DoAWheelie · 01/12/2024 23:34

When my allergies start playing up due to cat hair buildup. If they are shedding a ton and spending all night with me because it's cold that can be every 2-3 days, but can be as long as 3 weeks.

I have awful memory and time blindness so I struggle to remember to do periodic tasks like this without something like waking up unable to breathe reminds me. I just have no sense of how long it's been since I last did something. 2 days ago and 2 months ago feel exactly the same to me.

Normallynumb · 01/12/2024 23:34

Every 2 weeks. I do change pillowcase in between
Sleep alone

Frequent washing releases microplastics into the environment and wastes energy and water. Instead I open a brand new set of bedding every day and burn the old ones in a metal bin on my front garden.

I tend to find it takes a while to burn properly, so I toss on a couple of tyres if I'm in a hurry. Speeds things up a treat.

I also find it interesting that people prioritise washing the fitted sheet over the duvet cover. I'd always prioritise the diver cover as i feel that's more likely to get tea stains/ dribble/ armpit sweat on it

Growing up it was always fitted sheets and top pillow cases weekly, duvet cover fortnightly. I still can’t get the logic of it!!

Elizo · 01/12/2024 23:36

Every 2 weeks. Just me in bed

Lallydallydune · 01/12/2024 23:36

Once a month sometimes. Other times every two weeks

Livinginaclock · 01/12/2024 23:36

Every 10 minutes, more on weekends and holidays.

Livinginaclock · 01/12/2024 23:38

niadainud · 01/12/2024 22:36

Every 45 minutes.

OMG you've killed the entire planet yourself!!!

mrsfollowill · 01/12/2024 23:38

Once a week in Spring/Summer/most of Autumn because I can line dry- pushing 3 weeks at the moment because the weather has been horrendous but going to do DS's tomorrow and mine and DH's the next day.
I WFH so it's far easier to do in the week when they go out to work . We all shower/bathe before bed every night and the sheets don't get smelly. It's a crap chore though and I will have to dry them over radiators - really miss not being able to peg on the line- no dryer here as no room.
I will have a futility room with with a massive dryer like you have in a laundrette one day. I have at times taken the bedding to the laundrette just to tumble dry - king sized bedding dry in 10 mins and cost £1 bargain Grin

InSpainTheRain · 01/12/2024 23:39

Every week.-.because the best feeling is fresh sheets after a bath. It's like a little luxury.

Doobeedoobeedoobee · 01/12/2024 23:39

Every Friday we do a full sheets and towels wash - every one in the house is washed.

Don’t think it’s awful to leave it longer but I’d never go shorter between washes unless they were actually visibly wet/ dirty.

I also burn my mattress once a month and buy a new one. I've read that mattresses are full of bedbug dandruff. I would wash mine in Head & Shoulders but I've also read that H&S is bad for penguins!!!

Just the mattress?

I burn my bed once a month in sync with the full moon.
