When some men are revealed to be vile sex pest misogynist abusers you’re vaguely surprised.

Greg Wallace? Not so much! we all knew didn’t we?

I cannot believe his defence is “it was only 13 complaints, and they were all from dried up old bints anyway so who cares?”

Shouldn't surprise you. "There is an acceptable number of women to harass and they should be grateful for the attention" is classic misogyny, old as time itself.

WeaselCheeks · 01/12/2024 10:21

Ha ha ha, someone at the BBC news website is having none of it.

Opening paragraph:

"Gregg Wallace has hit back at allegations of historic misconduct, saying they have come from a "handful of middle-class women of a certain age"."

Quoting the full comment:

"Now, in the newspaper I can see the complaints coming from a handful of middle-class women of a certain age just from Celebrity MasterChef. This isn't right."

"The investigation heard from 13 people across a range of ages, who worked across five different shows, one of whom was on Celebrity MasterChef."

Oh Greg. Gregg, Gregg, Ggreg. How hard would it have been to issue a polite statement of denial, saying that you look forward to the investigation clearing your name, and leaving it at that?

Or putting on a sad face and being contrite, saying that you're sorry that your humour wasn't well received and that you'll be more mindful in future. Sure, it's a shitty fake apology that a few men and most women will see right through, but it'd probably buy you enough grace with the right people.

But nooooo, you had to prove your unpleasantness and misogyny in the most public of ways. Good job!

Nothatgingerpirate · 01/12/2024 10:21

What a ridiculous, odd little man with issues.

I admit I haven't heard his name many times.

However, as a middle aged (middle class, straight, married) female, I don't need to look at any man for eternity anymore. 😂

Twat.

Zippedydodah · 01/12/2024 10:23

And John Torode failed to call him out on any of it? Or report his revolting behaviour to anyone?
He’s hardly any better imo.

MonkeyRum · 01/12/2024 10:24

John The Toad is probably just as equally as repugnant as Wallace. I’m just glad he’s finally being seen for what he actually is.

BlueHairnet · 01/12/2024 10:24

I'd love to know what kind of demographic Gregg Wallace thinks is the core audience for Masterchef. Because I'm pretty sure it might be the demographic he's busy slagging off.

Maybe I'm wrong... maybe the show is watched by lots of "edgy" Andrew Tait wannabes, carefully evaluating the quality of the fondant?

His latest rant would look like career suicide, except that the career is well and truly dead already.

StellaAndCrow · 01/12/2024 10:25

Frowningprovidence · 01/12/2024 09:47

I know someone at a different factory where the employer filed an official complaint against him with the BBC. The BBC 'investigated' and said that everything was fine. I hope they go back and say "do you want another go an investigating this'

And in his video he says that in 20 years of doing those shows "you know how many staff have complained - none, zero, seriously"

Maybe he's discounting complaints that didn't end with him being sacked . . .

But it just shows his total disregard of the power imbalance - how many staff are going to feel able to complain?

PowerTulle · 01/12/2024 10:26

So another one who had repeated complaints made about his behaviour that
were ignored? More than that, rewarded with more shows and a cushy career by the BBC.

The BBC are just as bad as the church now for paedophiles and sex pests. Revolting.

Ironfloor269 · 01/12/2024 10:28

He was always known as Greg Wallace, the greentosser in our house. Odious twat!

DontStopMe · 01/12/2024 10:28

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 01/12/2024 09:26

Gads. He’s just so unpleasant and odd. I feel sorry for the poor soul who’s tasked with trying to rescue his mainstream career.
Years ago, a friend and I were lost in deepest Putney. We stopped off for a glass of wine and a snack at a big glossy gastropub we found. I was raging when I realised “Wallace and Co” meant Gregg Wallace. Put me right off my ploughman’s.

You may be glad to know that it closed down again pretty quickly, as Greggggg knows nothing about running restaurants.

YesterdaysFuture · 01/12/2024 10:28

I hope Gregg does some more Instagram videos! Loving the self-inflicted destruction of his own career!

A lot of people seem to misunderstand the context of this. It is behaviour that is a problem, not jokes said to camera (although some were so vile they had to be cut, so he was causing production issues).

He says the jokes as a form of power over (many) junior staff, and then there are the allegations of more physical nature too.

PermanentTemporary · 01/12/2024 10:30

I'm watching in wonder. Absolutely textbook ŵhat not to say stuff.

Class might have had a role to play, in that I can imagine the Beeb having too many mc people who genuinely think that working class people 'are just like that' and therefore ignoring or burying complaints.

2024onwardsandup · 01/12/2024 10:30

midgetastic · 01/12/2024 10:08

No I am not saying at all that he isn't guilty - quite the opposite

I was trying to think about humour in general - what makes something funny as opposed to offensive - how could we explain to middle class men of a certain age and intelligence level what would be funny and what would be offensive

And one strand would be how much does your "humor" rely on the other person / for example if your humour is targeted at lesbians and you are not lesbian then why are you making that joke ?

So anything that involves another person in your humour attempt you should thing again

They know that - that’s why they find it funny. The humour is the diminishing/belittling/threatenjng

countrygirl99 · 01/12/2024 10:32

He must want to be hung, drawn and quartered. I wonder if someone stopped adding "who have no sense of humour" on the end, it's the only thing that could have made his response worse.

therewasafishinthepercolator · 01/12/2024 10:32

Not to take away from his odious behaviour but why on earth did the BBC/production company allow this?

Bar hearing about an ineffectual warning in 2017 (iirc) they have let another employee/star turn behave atrociously towards other employees who are expected to just silently tolerate it. Not ok. But, lets face it, not surprising.

BBC really really need to look up Duty of Care.

Shortpoet · 01/12/2024 10:33

Dr Kate Tomas complained about him at the time in 2008.
BBC did nothing. That’s 16 years they’ve known!
She must only have been mid twenties then.

From popbitch in February

>> Gregged on <<
A sticky situation

As Gregg Wallace has been flavour of the week, a short story from the cutting room floor of Masterchef.

You know those moments on the show when Gregg and John go up to contestants to ask questions while they're trying to cook against the clock? Gregg wandered over to one chef as he was making a dessert to ask if he knew the difference between jam and jelly.

The contestant distractedly answered, "Errr... gelatine, I guess?"

To which Gregg responded, "No. You can't jelly your dick up your girlfriend's arse!"

Curiously, that bit didn't make the edit.

DrZaraCarmichael · 01/12/2024 10:15

He needs a refund from whoever is advising him on PR.

He’ll be like Prince Andrew in this regard.
Thinks he knows better than his highly paid professional advisers.

MoralOrLegal · 01/12/2024 10:36

I had never heard of him before yesterday (I don't watch Masterchef) but he seems odious. I've taught literally thousands of students in my time and one (justified) complaint against me would have ended my career, let alone thirteen. What on earth is his point?

ImWearingPantaloons · 01/12/2024 10:36

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 01/12/2024 09:11

He’s not very bright or self aware, is he? Agree that his lawyer and agent will be choking on their eggs Benedict right now.

Thought they only met for breakfast in a Harvester?

Trust me, no eggs Benedict there....

"He finished his statement by saying: "In over 20 years of television, can you imagine how many women, female contestants on MasterChef, have made sexual remarks or sexual innuendo - can you imagine?"

No. I cannot imagine making a sexual remark to Greg(g) Wallace. I really can't.

Just when you thought he couldn’t sink any lower. Absolute bellend of a man. To be honest, I’ve always thought you could see something deeply unpleasant about him in his sneering face

Compash · 01/12/2024 10:37

StressedLP1 · 01/12/2024 09:36

Prince Andrew: I’ve just done a great piece to camera

Gregg Wallace: hold my drink

🤣

dottiedodah · 01/12/2024 10:37

greengreyblue Me too! Always irked me how he would prance around shouting orders to contestants on MC ,when hes a bloody greengrocer! I dont know how he got on it at all .However his days are not only numbered but surely well and truly up!

IsoldeWagner · 01/12/2024 10:37

"Middle class women of a certain age"
Yes, we should all shut up, put up and defer to middle aged men of a certain demographic.
Women! Know your place!

Westfacing · 01/12/2024 10:39

I bet he's older than the women he's talking about.

He's implying that working class women would put up with it - what a response and what an idiot!

And a curse on all those men who let him get away with for years.
