Toast. On both sides.

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2024 14:09

I wonder how old his MIL is...

PotOfViolas · 02/12/2024 14:10

I think quite a high proportion of people who watch Masterchef are the demographic he was sneering at. He shot himself in the foot there.

@Yodabashi think that it is being decided whether the episode should be shown tonight

Maybe they could pixellate him out..

Wouldn't they have to mute him too?

Or do the "words spoken by an actor" thing? (That would actually be hilarious, though they may not have enough time to record and drop in the voiceovers.)

OnTheBounce · 02/12/2024 14:28

They could dub his voice with an actor's, like they used to with Gerry Adams. Maybe they could hire Ben Wishaw to say, 'That's an interesting flavour palette' in Paddington Bear's voice every time Gregg has to comment.

crumblingschools · 02/12/2024 14:32

I think they should dub his voice with a middle class woman of a certain age (and she can change his words to ensure they are appropriate)

This. For pure comedy value!

Gawd. Monica Galetti looks like she can't bloody stand him. I've never really watched Masterchef since GW has been on it, so I don't know if this was always blindingly obvious.

Danascully2 · 02/12/2024 14:50

I have been thinking about whether they should show programmes already recorded with someone like this in it (have no real interest in MasterChef but one of my kids loves inside the factory...). It's a tricky one as there must be so much effort by crew/other presenters that goes into these shows and in the case of MasterChef the contestants and it's a bit unfair to them if it isn't shown (doubly unfair if they were also subjected to harassment while on it). Maybe their views should be sought? On the other hand I can understand that not showing it could send a clear message that this type of behaviour is unacceptable and make senior people/producers of other shows sit up and take notice.
Maybe showing it with a disclaimer might be the way forward?

sharpclawedkitten · 02/12/2024 14:53

I think with a disclaimer too. There have been 13 complaints but not all to do with this series. And those who've complained this series don't have to watch it.

I think there could be some clever editing as well. They don't have to show his comments on the dishes, for example, unless he's talking to Monica or Marcus and it wouldn't make sense to delete it. It's going to be a bit of a job for someone though!

I believe I read she is 2 years older than him

nettie434 · 02/12/2024 15:19

I've often wondered if misogyny has influenced the Masterchef results, both for the celebrity and the professional version.

I think it's also very striking how unpopular Gregg Wallaace seems to be with the viewers and how much more Marcus Waring and Monica Galetti seem to enjoy the episodes without him.

I have read the interviews and they are pretty sketchy on the details - as I said I've not criticised her myself, simply made the point that Allsopp is one of the few whose influence is such that she is the bigger hitter of the two.

What I have said is that influential women have the same responsibility toward less powerful staff and peers as influential men. If you think powerful women don't have that duty of care because women than we will need to agree to disagree.

Agreed

There's a difference between blaming her and pointing out you don't like the fact she willingly made a program with this guy despite being in a position not to, while he was being inappropriate in his behaviour

It's not even about her complaining or not.

She's set a disingenuous tone with some of us, nothing more or less. Other people are blowing it up into something more than that.

You couldn't get a rizla paper between your 'just pointing out' and actual blaming/criticising. Never miss an opportunity to deflect and diss some women, eh?

You could get a truck between the two things. It's not my fault people are determined to try and turn this into a Weinstein situation for dramatic effect. And it's no wonder some of us see why there's opportunity to get some publicity out of it.

I do that anyway...

SheilaFentiman · 02/12/2024 15:59

Wasn't KA about to go into filming when GW started talking about his sex life? So if she had walked out right there and then and refused to make the programme, I imagine she would have run considerable risk of being in breach of contract with the production company.

SheilaFentiman · 02/12/2024 16:02

Also... it's (sadly) not unusual for us 'middle class women of a certain age' to hear something sexist or offensive at work and have to get on with our day rather than walking out there and then.

While we're imagining, I imagine that the production company would have been at considerable risk of being in breach of contract with her had they not reprimanded Gregg for his behaviour.

While we're not imagining, people with 8 figures tend have quite a bit of clout when it comes to 'breaching contracts'

SheilaFentiman · 02/12/2024 16:16

Yeah. I still think it’s pretty unlikely many people would walk out on a contract after one brief offensive conversation.

YMMV and it clearly does. I will leave it there on comments re KA as this thread should be about GW.

He adds nothing. I don’t even know why he’s there.
