What I have said is that influential women have the same responsibility toward less powerful staff and peers as influential men. If you think powerful women don't have that duty of care because women than we will need to agree to disagree.

I didn’t say this (and you know I didn’t).

A male celeb who had a one off brief and uncomfortable interaction with him - as KA did - also would have not have a full picture to act on. Those who worked with him and continued to employ/commission him week in and week out would have this (and sometimes have it on camera)

Rather strange how some seem to be trying to change this into a bit of a Kirsty Allsopp bashing thread.
I have little regard for the woman, but some people seem a little unhinged in their dislike of her.

Yep!

And when you have acted upon it and reported it to the client’s SMT, what happened?

Where its been part of a pattern? With the exception of one client (who subsequently went bust) it has been taken seriously on the client side and sometimes the "outside voice" has helped them escalate an issue. We would equally take seriously a client issue with one of our own staff (and have done).

IME people who treat my teams badly will be doing the same internally to their own teams and this behaviour causes bad morale, higher turnover and a drop in productivity if left to fester.

Oh dear gods.

I was the one saying that we didn't know exactly what Allsopp had seen and done but if she had done nothing knowing he was a predator I would be disappointed - feel free to reread my posts. I have neither blamed her nor excused her.

All I have said is that women with power have the same duty of care as men with power. I stand by that.

Well he’s back on insta, now posting supportive comments he’s had for. Other contestants,

I understand he’s panicking. But someone needs to take his phone away and stop him, he’s making it so much worse for himself

No, let him crack on. He's doing a grand job of showing exactly who he is.

Indeed.

Odd how it's suddenly Allsopp's fault.

And definitely not Torode, any of the male celebrity chefs involved, any of the male celebrity judges and definitely none of the male producers.

All of whom where much better placed to see this formed a pattern and wasn't just a one off I'll judged comment.

And I think Allsopp lives in bloody la la land most of the time.

If only it were possible to zap and ban people who utter offensive comments in real life...

If they were all zapped the BBC channels would just be the test pattern at this rate.

Yeah, I find it odd the grief she's getting (despite the fact I think she's a bit obnoxious) given how his behaviour was reported several times over the years, and nobody did anything - apart from the BBC giving him a cursory slap on the wrists few years back, and Nestlé banning him from their factories.

I mean seriously, Nestlé. How bad do you have to be to make Nestlé look like a fucking paragon of virtue?

MrsPeregrine · 02/12/2024 13:28

i can’t say I’m surprised to be honest.

I'm surprised at what an easy ride John Torode is getting so far, certainly in comparison to both Kirsty and Kirstie. There a lot of benefit of the doubt being awarded to him and his silence.

@WeaselCheeks if it wasn't involving such a serious subject matter this feat would be something of an achievement, because it really really takes some doing.

martinisforeveryone · 02/12/2024 13:39

@mids2019 yesterday
I think Greg is trying to distract from the litany of complaints by starting a debate about humour (?) and how working class women have a baudier(?) earthier (?) sense of humour while for the middle class sex is to be emitted from humour to a large extent.

I'm only up to this point in the thread, but just wanted to say, re the above, that I've read Queen Camilla has a rather earthy and bawdy sense of humour. She's definitely of a 'certain age' or more and she's as upper as you can get in the class system, but I very much doubt she'd look kindly on Gregg's current predicament or his past behaviours and attitudes.

Nestle know employment law.

MissPrickly · 02/12/2024 13:42

Gregg....an odious man of a certain age lacking in any class whatsoever

Conniebygaslight · 02/12/2024 13:43

Did I read somewhere that he named his son after Sid James...as he was his idol?

@AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta interesting (or not surprising) that women are getting the harder time than the men who worked with him

Yodabashi · 02/12/2024 13:50

I was away last week - what's happening with the Masterchef Final? It's not happened yet? What about the poor sod who Won It? Will they ever show the final, and the winner?

crumblingschools · 02/12/2024 13:54

@Yodabashi think that it is being decided whether the episode should be shown tonight

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2024 13:55

Amazing!

Source Press Association
BreakingNews Gregg Wallace has apologised for “any offence that I caused” after posting a video saying complaints about his behaviour came from “a handful of middle-class women of a certain age”

Clearly his PR firm don't work weekends and have been in touch with his this morning...

tobee · 02/12/2024 13:58

Ha, didn't Jermaine Jenas do the same...
"I will fight to clear my name, I'll take you all on!"
<speaks to lawyers>
"I am very ashamed and sorry for being a dickhead"

(I paraphrase, but not by much...)

crumblingschools · 02/12/2024 14:02

Is he just apologising for that video?

crumblingschools · 02/12/2024 14:02

Is he just apologising for that video?

It sounds like it.

Seriously he had a tantrum and there's been a few people who have had a serious word with his about his legal position and his future career.

Here's the full version of the apology:

"I want to apologise for any offence that I caused with my post yesterday and any upset I may have caused to a lot of people.

"I wasn't in a good head space when I posted it I've been under a huge amount of stress a lot of emotion I felt very alone, under siege yesterday when I posted it.

"It's obvious to me I need to take some time out now while this investigation is under way. I hope you understand and I do hope you accept this apology."
GGreg Wallace

Honestly. I have zero sympathy. Not after he's clearly deeply upset so many people in the past who didn't know how to deal with it either.

I think MN said he'd play the mental health card.

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2024 14:08

AND he's not apologised for the offence he may have caused whilst filming TV shows.
