Such a boring twat.
Feel like we've all met his kind a million times.
Pathetic apology.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 02/12/2024 16:32

Just seen the "apology". He looks so belligerent, you can tell he is really resenting having to apologise. It's obviously not something he does very often.

Danascully2 · 02/12/2024 16:57

I also think his talent (or lack thereof) is entirely irrelevant to this issue - this is about his behaviour and whether it was appropriate for the workplace, and about whether managers took appropriate action. Otherwise if we focus on whether or not we like him on screen it leaves open the reverse argument of whether if people are talented/popular enough we should gloss over their unacceptable behaviour. He could be the world's most talented presenter and his comment yesterday would still be a completely unacceptable response to a workplace complaint.

billysboy · 02/12/2024 16:57

so when will the mental health card come out ( stress , pressure etc ) off to the priory , before I am a celeb

Hes sorry for getting caught out not for acting in a vile way to start with

Its a fairly classics "if" apology.

The Times quotes "“I want to apologise for any offence that I caused with my post yesterday and any upset I may have caused to a lot of people"
“I wasn’t in a good headspace when I posted it, I’ve been under a huge amount of stress, a lot of emotion, I felt very alone, under siege yesterday when I posted it.

(My bolding, not The TImes').

No apology for the actual behaviour, conditional "may" and a dollop of DARVO.

Its the next step in the playbook - he has been stressed. PR team no doubt looking to book him into the Priory with sadface photos of him and his family for the following step in the playbook.

MeatRaffleRita · 02/12/2024 17:05

Oh the poor dear. Vulnerable, emotional and lonely man.

Wasn't vulnerable, emotional and lonely when he was out loud imagining a rapist doing foreplay was he.

Stupid fucking wanker.

I am so so sick of men like this. They can all fuck right off.

Sorry for swearing so much but I've totally had enough of it now. They keep coming out of the woodwork like maggots. Burn the old building down I say!!!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 02/12/2024 17:05

@C8H10N4O2 Its the next step in the playbook - he has been stressed.

Someone should probably make a bingo card for the upcoming excuses...

Stress ✅
Upsetting Childhood
Low self esteem.
Lack of hair.
IIRC part of Huw Edwards defence was that he felt inferior to his newsroom colleagues because unlike them he hadn't been to university. I can definitely see Ggggreg wheeling that out, except change uni for catering college.

It was that he hadn't been to Oxbridge (went to Cardiff Uni which these days is Russell Group). He was no less white and middle class than many of his BBC peers.

I've often wondered if working class, non university educated John Humphrys would have an opinion on that particular excuse!

He was sexually abused as a child

ohwhataluvverly · 02/12/2024 17:14

Can anyone help me as to where is this apology on Instagram? When I click on his profile I get a grid of posts and a grid of reels and the apology isn't showing on either.
Has it been deleted already or am I looking in the wrong place?

(I've seen it on a news website btw - I'm just trying to work out where it is on Instagram but can't find it)

the80sweregreat · 02/12/2024 17:14

Not sure what were meant to take from it all really. He is now back peddling, no surprises there.
He clearly has a problem with women and I agree with meatraffle below, maybe it is time for the bbc to stop taking us for mugs and sort out the problems they clearly have with these highly paid presenters or just go over to adverts and let people decide if they want to watch it anymore or not and scrap the licence fee.
The place is a mess and many have been on the gravy train way too long and others have covered up for many other misdemeanors.
I'm sure there are many more scandals to come as well, we just don't know about them yet. It's all so sleazy and depressing.

Indeed and seeing as he presented the main ten o'clock news, broke one of the biggest stories of the 21st century and fronted all main royal events the lack of an Oxbridge education didn't seem to hinder his career very much.

John Humphrey's is ace, miss him on mastermind even though I have a very soft spot for lovely Clive Myrie.

Yup. This is the playbook

As a PR man, I look at Gregg Wallace and see an ego gone rogue – and a strategy only Trump would endorse | Mark Borkowski

Reacting to claims of inappropriate sexual banter with a blast against ‘middle-class women’ was wrong and will probably prove disastrous, says crisis PR consultant Mark Borkowski

Now trying to 'apologise' for his unacceptable response to his unacceptable behaviour. He really needs to get off the JCB.

Twothinkthat · 02/12/2024 17:44

He’s just another open secret - how does it get to this point. Years ago the bbc could have quietly replaced him, and yet

Hotflushesandchilblains · 02/12/2024 17:45

nettie434 · 02/12/2024 15:19

I've often wondered if misogyny has influenced the Masterchef results, both for the celebrity and the professional version.

I think it's also very striking how unpopular Gregg Wallaace seems to be with the viewers and how much more Marcus Waring and Monica Galetti seem to enjoy the episodes without him.

Edited

If you watch a lot of those shows, it is really striking to me how unbalanced it is in terms of who wins, and although it is supposed to all be about output, I have always been sure that misogyny is part of it.

Years ago, the production companies could have quietly replaced him OR years ago the BBC (and Channel 5) could have suggested to the production companies that they would prefer to buy GW-free shows.

The BBC do not employ him.

Melathome · 02/12/2024 17:50

He must be really stupid to make that remark, it's the kind of thing (and all the rest of his rubbish) that men could get away with 20 years ago maybe, and shows how arrogant he is to think this will make things better for him. Middle-aged women....don't count, is that it?

Pippyls67 · 02/12/2024 17:53

Cretinous little wanker

MattSmithsBowTie · 02/12/2024 17:59

I always watched his programmes despite the fact he was in them, it was a running joke in our house about how he got into TV when there must be much more appealing presenters out there.

anon666 · 02/12/2024 18:02

The scary thing is that all these predators and misogynistic bullies find themselves aligned with the new meninists/conspiracists like Russell Brand, Jeremy Clarkson etc al. I fear he knows exactly what he's doing.

We're all in our own echo chambers and this is the result. Gregg Wallace seems like fairly straightforward knobend, but social media blows it all out of proportion. Before we know it there are people outraged on all sides, and we're forgetting our common humanity.

It seems harmless enough - calling out misogyny. But there is money abd political capital to be made out of outrage.

Yes sorry - I know he’s not directly contracted - however I’m he’s fronted three BBC shows. Every single person I know who’s met him says the same thing that he’s misogynistic- it’s a well known thing.

Lalgarh · 02/12/2024 18:06

He felt ALONE and UNDER SIEGE

borntobequiet · 02/12/2024 18:10

Still banging on about Kirsty Allsop, I see.
Goodness knows what she’s done to deserve it, apart from being “rich and powerful” - like some sort of despot oil baron.
