@TarantinoIsAMisogynist actually you couldn't be more wrong.

Yes, the munching comment is awful.

Remember that most of his worst comments will have been cut from the programmes broadcast. They certainly didn’t show the comment he apparently made to a female celebrity, who was squeamish about handling raw fish: “Watching you try to touch a fish is like watching a rapist do foreplay.”

ohwhataluvverly · 01/12/2024 17:48

Please stop defending wealthy powerful celebrities who only decide to help others when there's something in it for them.

This is just bullshit. Emma Kennedy, Aasmah Mir and Kirsty Wark (and these are only the ones we know about) complained at the time.

There is nothing NOTHING wrong with people who had experiences of him revealing them publicly. I don't think Kirsty Allsop is saying she would have complained - just that he is vile and disrespectful to his wife and made her feel uncomfortable and he was unprofessional. Most working women have had experiences like that - not so far over the line to want you to complain but obviously inappropriate.

I'd rather women felt able to reveal this information about rude and unprofessional publicly at any time for whatever reason than they thought they would get attacked by nasty people.

maverickfox · 01/12/2024 17:49

TheTidyBear · 01/12/2024 17:42

I'm not blaming women, I'm blaming Kirsty Allsopp specifically.

Please stop defending wealthy powerful celebrities who only decide to help others when there's something in it for them.

There’s nothing in it for Kirsty Allsopp as far as I can see. I’m no fan of hers but I can totally understand why she wouldn’t have reported it. I’d probably just think he was a creep and leave it at that. It’s not easy to make complaints against people no matter how wealthy you are. You might end up with a lawsuit on your hands for a start.

Why did you cut out the bit of my my post which said I blamed Kirsty Allsop specifically, then refer to several people I have no qualms with?

That's bullshit.

hopefor25 · 01/12/2024 17:52

I'm not saying anything is right or wrong regards his behaviour or what women have said. I'm being serious that trial by media in the wake of his employer not dealing with allegations is a negligence of duty that is the issue here. He is FAR from the only person who has ever been inappropriate in a tv production setting. Go and watch The Franchise on sky. It's a comedy except it's all true and yes people do behave like this. It's not just the bbc.

A lawsuit huh

How inconvenient

Gummybear23 · 01/12/2024 17:53

Tata 👋to Greg wallace the perv.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/12/2024 17:54

There’s an assumption here that being famous and powerful makes it easy to make a complaint like this. Certainly it’s easier for the likes of Wark or Allsopp to make a complaint than it is for junior members of the production team but that doesn’t make it easy or mean that things will change when they do.

Women have also been programmed to brush this stuff off because it happens so often. So a single comment if you aren’t working with him long might net be worth the hassle. It does add strength to the claims of other women who have been harassed by him over a longer period of time.

TheTidyBear · 01/12/2024 17:52

Well I don’t know, that was a throwaway remark. You’ve clearly got it in for Kirsty, which is really odd given that a number of other high profile women have come out and said something.

A friend has sent me an image of a T-shirt saying "I’m a middle-class woman of a certain age". Not sure if it’s a real thing or not (she doesn’t know either) but it woukd make a fantastic Christmas present! Anyone know anything about it?

It’s on Present Indicative https://www.presentindicative.com/products/middle-class-woman-of-a-certain-age-t-shirt

Middle-Class Woman of a Certain Age T-Shirt

Just because...

ohwhataluvverly · 01/12/2024 17:59

Why did you cut out the bit of my my post which said I blamed Kirsty Allsop specifically, then refer to several people I have no qualms with?

Because you made a generic comment "Please stop defending wealthy powerful CELEBRITIES who only decide to help others when there's something in it for them."

Celebrities plural. Not just Kirsty Allsop. I was responding to that.

I then addressed your bullshit about Kirsty Allsop in the second paragraph of my post.

Well then you know how hard it would be. Which makes your comments even more unreasonable

As someone pointed out above several Women who are significantly less powerful and wealthy than Kirsty managed to complain at the time without worrying about a lawsuit.

greengreyblue · 01/12/2024 09:15

I always had reservations about him. Wondered what a green grocer was doing judging a cooking show. I wonder who he had connections with, maybe a sexist pal higher up the food chain!

It seems to work that way at the BBC doesn't it? Jobs for the boys, etc.

It wasn't generic. I said I was specifically referring to Kirsty Allsop.

But thanks for supporting my view by pointing out that the other Women managed to do the right thing and complain at the time.

Happyher · 01/12/2024 18:04

Noticed from his pics on TV he has an MBE. Don’t they do any background checks before dishing out honours.

PandoraSox · 01/12/2024 18:05

Anyone who has experienced sexual harassment has the right to complain about it whenever they choose to. Or not complain about it. The only person at fault is the perpetrator. Allsopp has done nothing wrong.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 01/12/2024 18:06

Anothercoffeeafter3 · 01/12/2024 16:12

He appeals to people with the same dark sense of humour, if you don't like it don't go on the show. If he was running round the studio naked that's too far but sexual jokes I'm sorry but he doesn't deserve a media storm over it. Kitchen are dark places the contestants will likely have the same humour.

Assuming you are not Homer, you might want to look up the difference between 'dark' and 'blue'.

And then 'humour'.

ohwhataluvverly · 01/12/2024 18:08

This is just so awful 'do the right thing' and 'complain at the time' 🙄 There is just no hope really is there.

Being too scared/ concerned you won't be believed/ will be made out to be a liar or any other reason for not making a complaint at the time is NOT 'the wrong thing'. The wrong thing here - the only wrong thing - is unwanted sexually aggressive behaviour by a man in a power position.

StopStartStop · 01/12/2024 18:10

ilovesooty · 01/12/2024 12:05

The comments on that segment on Facebook have high numbers of women defending him. 😡

Women are often stupid.

Sorry not buying it, I think she is significantly powerful and wealthy enough to not have been scared by Gregg and I think she only really cares about the publicity. This is generally what separates celebrities from the rest of us and I don't worship them for it.

Just because she's female celebrity, she doesn't automatically get a free pass for her behaviour from me.

Cantalever · 01/12/2024 18:12

Harrumphhhh · 01/12/2024 09:33

It’s hardly surprising that it’s this demographic that are speaking out is it?

‘Middle class’ = outdated phrase, but implies people who are more likely to be listened to

‘women’ = inaccurate as men have complained too (thank you Sir Rod) but - let’s be honest - Greg was never going to be brave enough to insult men was he?

’of a certain age’ = again, just a tiny bit more status than younger women

It’s almost like a text book in how to silence female voices. Sexually harass young women of a lower status than you (because of the power imbalance contestant / presenter) then gaslight them years later when they’re brave/ recovered enough to complain.

And do so on the likes of the BBC, an ace man's club where they look after their own by looking the other way (at our expense).

Lalgarh · 01/12/2024 18:13

Oh my god was that on MasterChef or Bake Off
