Were people watching his shows for him or despite of him though ?

Despite of him. I quite like professional MC but would much prefer it if he wasn't in it.

He's not getting much love from anywhere I've turned today so I'm wondering why he gets so much television work - what's the appeal?

YesterdaysFuture · 01/12/2024 15:58

Won't be long before he plays the mental health card and ask people to #bekind.

MintTwirl · 01/12/2024 15:59

He is literally showing people who he is. A misogynistic egotistical man. Worrying to see the amount of support he has from both men and women online.

mids2019 · 01/12/2024 16:01

I think it's so bad to be calculated.

You only have to look at the election of Trump to know there is a fairly significant proportion of men who are either misogynist or prepared to overlook misogyny. When Trump as called out on his misogyny he played the martyr card to the full with telling his base 'they are out to get me'.

Possibly Gregg could see his career circling the drain and someone advised him to go full on misogynist with a view to getting a niche role on GB news or some other platfoem.

I have heard a number of news items on this and actually the BBC should not have had this as headline while there was The capture of Aleppo happening in my opinion. There have been a number of posts I have seen on AN praising him for socking it to overpaid middle class women with their head firmly up their humourless arse. He has a following.

The danger is he can form a narrative of being the victim of cancel culture with warnings work place banter is now a thing of the past due to the sole elite.

SM

PandoraSox · 01/12/2024 16:02

I have been listening to LBC whilst decorating. Every half hour the top news headline is about Gregggggg's statement. What a plank.

Is he saying by a certain age, he thinks it should be obvious to everyone that there is no way he would bother to make remarks to those women because they are obviously too old for his taste? So they are lying?

Edited

I'm getting more of a 'They're all just frigid lesbians' vibe from it tbh

T4phage · 01/12/2024 16:07

Urgh yuck. This is why I have a problem with 'men of a certain age'. Mid life crisis, rapidly declining virility, living in the past, arrogant and annoying. Poor old sod must be on testosterone treatment and has no way of getting any because he's crass, ugly and irrelevant 😂

Anothercoffeeafter3 · 01/12/2024 16:12

He appeals to people with the same dark sense of humour, if you don't like it don't go on the show. If he was running round the studio naked that's too far but sexual jokes I'm sorry but he doesn't deserve a media storm over it. Kitchen are dark places the contestants will likely have the same humour.

I think there’s already been comments from “friends” his he behaviour is “due to him having undiagnosed autism”.

Hmm

Don’t be ridiculous

You know, I was thinking 'Er, does Jon Sopel mean nothing to you, did he die in vain?' (apologies Galton & Simpson). But then he references him, himself, and yet still carries on!

It’s perfectly possibly have a dark sense of humour while a) not humiliating people, b) not being wildly offensive to people who do not share your humour and c) not abusing an imbalance of power. There’s nothing dark about Greg’s “humour”, it’s just crass behaviour.

Absolute rubbish

I don't count William Sitwell or his opinion that Greg is a 'top bloke'.

That's not a dark sense of humour, it's plain abuse.

Have a word with yourself.

Barney16 · 01/12/2024 16:19

Oh bless, poor Gregggggg, too stupid to know when to keep his mouth shut. Beautiful own goal in which he absolutely proves that everything, everyone has said about him is absolutely true.

You might want to educate yourself on the difference between 'dark humour' and being a 'predatory cunt'.

He's basically saying, "of the 2000 or so women that I worked with, only 13 have made complaints - why is nobody talking about the women that I didn't sexually harass?!" What a cock.

One complaint should be enough. It’s half the problem in that women aren’t often listened to on their own, they aren’t believed until lots of others come forward.

Wherethewildthingsfart · 01/12/2024 16:23

I had no idea who he was until all of this. I am a middle class woman of a certain age so congrats Greg.

I nearly spat my coffee out. Topped his behaviour off nicely I thought.

Me too. Whatever the truth about the allegations against him (bleugh!), he's really not helping himself, is he?

Gregg Wallace is disgusting and on a different level but I do think that the producers of Bake Off need to be having a serious conversation about the innuendo in that and really consider how inappropriate some comments are. The presenters need to tread very carefully I feel.

I don't watch bake off much nice but isn't it more innuendos about the food, not said directly to or about a person? Before everyone decides to pile on - mumsnetter of old - I'm asking a question, not stating an opinion.

ilovesooty · 01/12/2024 16:29

I'd no time for Sitwell before this article and I think even less of him now.
