Just heard his comments on the news….unbelievable.

I can see why people don’t speak out. There’s frequently a lot of talk in workplaces about bullying, appropriate behaviour, harrassment, whistle blowing etc, but sometimes (maybe often) when someone speaks up, they aren’t taken seriously and their complaint is dismissed. It may be that the powers that be don’t want the hassle of taking action. Or that the wrong-doer is more ‘important’ to the employer than the complainant.

I agree. Rod also publicly criticised Russell Brand I believe . I wish more men would also publicly stand up and be counted too and call out this behaviour!

Now there is a guy who should never be employed in the public domain. He makes Gregg whatshisname appear like an angel.

Combattingthemoaners · 01/12/2024 14:06

Just when you think that wanker couldn’t get any worse……he does.

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 01/12/2024 14:06

I think it’s fair to say that GreGG has picked a fight with the wrong demographic.

Greg is badly dressed, thigh rubbing patio.

He's the sort of man that were he a driving instructor he'd be one of the ones who sit too close, accidentally touch you, make lewd comments about gear sticks etc. but it's ok because he didn't mean any harm.

What a cunt of a man he is. Only 13 people complained? Oh well that's ok isn't it? One complaint is one too many you thick arsed count!!

The worrying thing is on other social media platforms TT and FB he's being defended, people saying 'what about Carry On!' 'What's the country coming to', 'no one can take a joke anymore' because, it seems, Gregg isn't the only misogynistic, wanker and if his fall from grace was put to a public vote, sadly I think he'd win. Shameful, thick, sexist arehoke.

My dog has better morals than Greg Wallace and he's only 6.

I'm obviously not the only one who's seen the Facebook posts then.

Snowstormloves · 01/12/2024 14:08

Ugly pig he is..

SidewaysOtter · 01/12/2024 14:09

I think that if the humour leaves a person feeling humiliated (I got pushed for a reaction a lot to gross sexual comments to make other workers laugh) rather than in on the joke, it’s not on.

This is the difference between Bake Off’s innuendo and Greg Wallace’s “humour”. Jokes about soggy bottoms and burnt buns aren’t aimed at people, whereas Greg’s comments very much were. I’m all for a bit of innuendo but it has to be in the right place and context. In the pub with my friends who have the same sense of humour, and we’re all equal? Not a problem. At work to someone over whom I’m in a position of power? Absolutely NOT.

taxguru · 01/12/2024 14:09

I always thought he was a wanker and hated him on TV. These comments prove it! How on Earth did he manage to keep his job and get better roles if he was like that on the sets?? The mind boggles how entire production teams thought it was acceptable.

Language Moriarty, language. Have to say the language of some on this site is something to behold. Robustness is one thing but abusive, offensive language only undermines ones argument no matter its validity.

MeatRaffleRita · 01/12/2024 14:13

Ugly, stupid, socially inept wanker.

Fuck off Wallace. You are no longer relevant in today's society.

Combattingthemoaners · 01/12/2024 14:13

AgnesX · 01/12/2024 09:22

He really ought to keep his mouth shut.

However, does he have a point? Is it being blown up out of proportion because I can't imagine Marcus Waring or Monica putting up with that kind of behaviour.

I'm not condoning his behaviour btw, he may be obnoxious (and there are plenty of those in every workplace) but why is this only coming out now?

The same reason lots of powerful/rich men are being called out for their behaviour in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s - societal change. The attitude of “well why is it only coming out now?” suggests they’re making it up because they have something to gain rather than women now feeling empowered.

Sorry, Hyacinth.

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 01/12/2024 09:25

You are part of a culture that is condoning his behaviour.

I’m struggling to grasp your point. Do you mean that Marcus and Monica are not middle class and therefore were not targeted, or perhaps they were and too gritty to be offended?
In case we’re tempted to see him as a bumbling oaf who can’t understand the rules of acceptable behaviour, I’d invite you to look up the rape ‘joke’ he made to a MC contestant. He goes out of his way to find language and imagery that are seriously offensive and alarming.

BrightonFrock · 01/12/2024 14:17

I think that actually might be the problem. His dreams or fantasies.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that a lot of this has followed his dramatic weight loss. He can’t do an interview without mentioning it or telling us about his so-called “six pack”. I think he’s convinced himself he’s now some kind of DILF women are absolutely dying for a crack at.

I felt the same about Huw Edwards (although obviously it’s been proven he did much worse than Wallace). Remember those pics of him training for that boxing match; no shirt and underwear waistband poking out of his shorts? It was as if now he wasn’t just a plump pinstriped newsreader; he was a somebody in a different way, and it rushed to his head.

BakewellTart66 · 01/12/2024 14:18

Apologies. My reply was meant for Agnes X

Resisterance · 01/12/2024 14:19

David Baddiel has an amusing take on it.

To be fair he can't control his appearance. His behaviour is another matter.

But this wasn't the case for Masterchef - Gregg couldn't have destroyed any careers. The celebs already have a career, the amateurs are in a competition, the professionals are professionals and professional chefs thinking about giving them a job aren't going to pay attention to Gregg - in fact they probably know only too well what he is like.

So there was no excuse for women not to complain and if they did complain, no excuse for something to be done about it.

As for middle class women of a certain age - well, that's because we have zero f's to give and have, in many cases, got over the people pleasing stage (though I don't think I ever had one).

I think they meant more the staff on the programme more than the contestants. Show runners etc who wouldn't be high up the pecking order being afraid that speaking out means they don't get hired for the next gig. Nature of the business and has been for so long.

Agreed.

Mysterian · 01/12/2024 14:30

"Only 13 complaints" (so far). How many has John Torode had? 0?

DressingAsMyFavouriteQualityStreet · 01/12/2024 14:32

I don’t understand his point. Maybe I’m just thick as mince.

What’s he alluding to? That middle class middle age women are just jealous because we want a bit of him? We don’t. We’d rather go without thanks.

Or is he correct? Yes it is middle age middle class women who called him out. They did so because young women don’t have the life skills to call out older misogynists on their behaviour. They are still conditioned in this day and age to say nothing.

Not us 45+ though. We call out this bullshit. We don’t care what they think. We protect our young and our girls.

Greg and those like him. We are coming for you and we will cut off your balls shove them down your neck and hope you choke on them.

I agree in his head he’s George Clooney.

And he’ll look like a bald Albert Steptoe in 10 years time

I'm not a great fan of cancel culture, but this man needs to get cancelled back to the stone age.

Absolutely. And don't forget that for contestants, doing well could be life-changing. And also for celebs who would probably find their work drying up if they got a reputation for being difficult.
Just look at the time Amanda Abington has had after calling out her pro's behaviour on Strictly.
