But this wasn't the case for Masterchef - Gregg couldn't have destroyed any careers. The celebs already have a career, the amateurs are in a competition, the professionals are professionals and professional chefs thinking about giving them a job aren't going to pay attention to Gregg - in fact they probably know only too well what he is like.

So there was no excuse for women not to complain and if they did complain, no excuse for something to be done about it.

As for middle class women of a certain age - well, that's because we have zero f's to give and have, in many cases, got over the people pleasing stage (though I don't think I ever had one).

You only have to look at the backlash to Amanda Abbington, after her complaints about behaviour on Strictly, to see what sort of a shitstorm can engulf even seasoned and well-established pros if they speak out.

Did you read @WotWithTheseFeet 's post properly? This bit: "The nature of the industry means many in it are self employed and have always to be concerned about where their next job is coming from."

The celebs and professionals may not have their career chances destroyed but anyone on a freelance/short-term contract certainly could have.

So there was no excuse for women not to complain <-There's some serious victim blaming going on in your posts.
But I do agree with you on this "if they did complain, no excuse for something to be done about it."

What a prickK.

Bravo🤣

Maybe he’ll get a job in Clarkson’s Farm Shop. He really is an arrogant little shit. I worked at the same event as him a few years ago and he propositioned a girl of 23 via following her business page, he knew was travelling alone and staying in a hotel, called her v late at night more than once. Despicable, vacant, wanker.

Just heard a second clip in which he says - do you know how many women in 20 years of me doing Masterchef have made sexual comments or used sexual innuendo towards me?

Keep digging, Greg 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Pah! In his dreams.

Only rational response to his comments being "yeah cheers, now piss off, you gurning cunt"

Kirsty Allsop is now on Radio 4 with her own story about GregG being a horrible creep. She's saying she came forward because of his video.

Well done GregG.

Pah! In his dreams.

I think that actually might be the problem. His dreams or fantasies.

If the allegations are true, and based on direct quotes from him, his attitude to women appears to be based on unreconstructed male fantasies of them as objects of his sexual desire or housekeepers and childminders, allowing him to get on with his (very important) life.

desigma · 01/12/2024 13:34

what an utter creep. I hope this unleashes many more women who've felt unsure about speaking up until now. Horrible man.

Gregg Wallace is in trouble. I would tell him to put a sock on it, but isn’t that what caused the problem? | Marina Hyde

As the MasterChef host ‘steps away’ from the show, might he reflect on his approach to women and work, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde

He might as well have posted a video saying everything is true and I'm not ashamed. The BBC needs a clause about bringing the organisation into disrepute so they can sack presenters straight away.

I also agree with all the comments about Bale Off. The innuendo in the first few series was almost accidental and light hearted. But now it's become overt and deliberate. I think this series they made them cook spotted dick just for the laughs and it was crude and unnecessary. I really should stop watching it as I don't enjoy it anymore, but I am attached to happy memories of how it used to be.

Footballorrugby · 01/12/2024 13:40

I wonder what his fourth wife who is 21 years younger than him thinks. She obviously doesn’t come under the category of middle aged. Not sure about her social class.

I have felt sorry for her for a long time. I don’t know anything about her but as a couple they look very mismatched, he’s a prick (now verified) and she always looks sad and uncomfortable.

FiveFoxes · 01/12/2024 13:41

If you were in a competition, with your highly sought after, potentially career making place, are you really going to complain about a judge?

And if you complain after you've lost a round, people just dismiss it as sour grapes.

Oh he recycles wives for younger models? Not surprised based on his comment alone he likes them young and with less money than him. Some kind of innocent maid fetish

WeAreBorg · 01/12/2024 13:47

Hi, sorry but I’m one of the middle class women of a certain age who has bombarded Gregggg with relentless sexual innuendo over the past 20 years. Not sure what to do with myself now

SheilaWilde · 01/12/2024 13:50

Greg is badly dressed, thigh rubbing patio.

He's the sort of man that were he a driving instructor he'd be one of the ones who sit too close, accidentally touch you, make lewd comments about gear sticks etc. but it's ok because he didn't mean any harm.

What a cunt of a man he is. Only 13 people complained? Oh well that's ok isn't it? One complaint is one too many you thick arsed count!!

The worrying thing is on other social media platforms TT and FB he's being defended, people saying 'what about Carry On!' 'What's the country coming to', 'no one can take a joke anymore' because, it seems, Gregg isn't the only misogynistic, wanker and if his fall from grace was put to a public vote, sadly I think he'd win. Shameful, thick, sexist arehoke.

My dog has better morals than Greg Wallace and he's only 6.

Deathraystare · 01/12/2024 13:51

Edited

I was referring here mainly, but not exclusively, to the production staff most of whom will certainly be self-employed and familiar with the uncertain nature of work in their profession. Whether making the amateur or celebrity version of the show the production team engaged by Banijay the company who produce the MasterChef programme would have been equally aware. In my view it is Banijay who should be the first in-line when it comes to responsibility in this case. They have a Duty of Care to all, including any sub-contractors they employ. Due to the likes of Kirsty Walk, taking part only in a single series, celebs likely came across the boorish behaviour relatively briefly. The production team, i.e. those whose jobs were dependent on saying nothing, would likely be the most affected by any negative conduct. Apologies for not being clearer.

'Middle class women' = 'females I'm intimidated by, who are usually awkwardly silenced by faux-jaunty references to my cock, unlike working class women who dutifully roar with laughter like good girls, unless they're frigid or something'.

'Of a certain age' = 'women I consider too old to fuck, which is, by the way, the ultimate burn'

This is spot on how he thinks.

From popbitch in February

>> Gregged on <<
A sticky situation

As Gregg Wallace has been flavour of the week, a short story from the cutting room floor of Masterchef.

You know those moments on the show when Gregg and John go up to contestants to ask questions while they're trying to cook against the clock? Gregg wandered over to one chef as he was making a dessert to ask if he knew the difference between jam and jelly.

The contestant distractedly answered, "Errr... gelatine, I guess?"

To which Gregg responded, "No. You can't jelly your dick up your girlfriend's arse!"

Curiously, that bit didn't make the edit.

This is awful.

I have been wondering how his wife feels this morning.

I don't watch it anymore because it's so infantile now. There's a difference between accidental humour and, what now seems to be, a production directive.

Twatalert · 01/12/2024 14:00

Honestly these men are unbelievable. So 13 women out of 4000 contestants have complained, like that's supposed to be in his favour.

I have worked with a large number of clients for almost 20 years. Not once have I made a sexual comment or joke to any of them. It wouldn't enter my mind.

These men still think 'it was only a few times, therefore what's the issue?'. I'm sick of them.

I’ve never been much of a fan of Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster but I’m starting to think they’re great! Good for Rod for sticking up for his wife publicly, Penny seemed sweet on Sewing Bee, and I’ve got a soft spot for them after Rod saved the model railway club that got vandalised.

I agree. Rod also publicly criticised Russell Brand I believe . I wish more men would also publicly stand up and be counted too and call out this behaviour!

It is surely Banijay UK, the production company making the show for the BBC that are responsible in the first instance. Nobody is suggesting the BBC is an innocent party but why is Banijay only now investigating the man's conduct and its effect on those it employs, sub-contractors or not.
