It's the only Christmas anthem I can tolerate, because it's not sickly sweet and sentimental.

@ObieJoyful I can believe that, he seemed like a thoroughly decent man. IIRC after he died it was revealed that he had paid for a strangers IVF treatment after being moved by seeing them on TV but he insisted on it not being publicised.

Especially now that the radio and the supermarkets start playing christmas music in November. So I listen to podcasts and shop in Aldi.

But I do harbour a special hatred for that bloody awful Slade thing which starts "Iiiiiiiit's Chriiiiiiistsmas" which has been the soundtrack to december for my entire life. I loathe and detest it with a passion.

Do They Know It's Christmas is especially bad. Not just the fact that it seems so culturally mawkish and stupid by today's standards, it's simply a shit song. I get so fed up with hearing it. The opening chime of the bell as it cranks up makes me shudder. Not this one AGAIN.
