Littlemissgobby · 21/11/2024 17:18

Why the fuck is he attacking our gov decisions like inheritance tax on farms? He seems obsessed with Britain ever since the riots . Also can you imagine if sir Allan sugar was posting stuff about American gov policy like Elon musk is.
All because he’s been summoned about disinformation on X That led to the riots.
is he just a right wing twat? He’s gonna have to pipe down if America wants us to be on their side if I was labour I would be getting so annoyed .
side note I sit left centre but Peter Mandelson licking boots of Elon and trump is a piss take.
maybe we are going to have to move closer to Europe as America is unhinged by the sounds of Elon .

They didn’t just block because of views if you look at Twitter now it’s a right cesspool full of people who are literally just abusive calling people. God knows whatever names they don’t want to argue they just want to get one over the liberals. I’ve gone onto blue sky and people debate and talk rationally Twitter didn’t just block people because they were wrong. They blocked a lot of of the trolls too, but under musk that’s okay now.

People are under the illusion that free speech is some nice shiny place, but the reality is that you have to learn to TOLERATE people who have different views that yourself, it is the 'downside' of free speech - you can't just have it your own way. But the consequences of not having free speech do not bear thinking about, or maybe they do - have a look into history and see what happens when speech is controlled BY THE GOVERNMENT.

I seriously think people are losing their minds when they want a government to control what information they see just because they get a little offended by what someone has said. It is so naive and childish.

And people like you also have to understand that free speech comes with responsibility. Nobody is saying I don't want you to have your opinion if it's something different to my opinion. But if you are going to put misinformation and hateful s* on Twitter that can really maybe racist, etcetera, then people have to understand that there is a responsibility when writing. Especially when some of these people found out in the riots, they were literally inciting people to burn The hotel down

You don’t believe in free speech

What is wrong with ‘misinformation’? What even is it? Is it just the same as Derek down the road telling you there’s been some ‘dodgy teenagers’ on your estate yet you know they are decent kids and he’s just being paranoid?
do you want Derek to be prosecuted for misinformation?

Why can’t you handle people talking crap? It’s happened forever, why are you now suddenly so sensitive to it?

Also there is no case evidence of ‘hate speech’ translating into violence anywhere, the whole thing is farcical and the laws made by people such as yourself who don’t like hearing hurty words

How has Elon Musk censored people? Who? Where? When?

hamstersarse · 22/11/2024 15:01

Especially when some of these people found out in the riots, they were literally inciting people to burn The hotel down

someone posted “I don’t care if they burn the hotels down” and got 18 months in jail.

That is not an incitement to violence, it is an opinion.

Have you ever said “ I don’t care if someone shoots Donald Trump/ insert some other ‘fascist’.

Do you consider that incitement to violence that you should go to prison for 18 months for?

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 22/11/2024 15:14

Meanwhile, back in the real world.

Economists have sounded the alarm over a UK recession after data showed Britain’s economy was reeling from the effects of Rachel Reeves’s tax-raising Budget.

Britain is now “close to stagnation” after closely watched PMI figures showed activity among the UK’s private sector companies shrank for the first time in more than a year in November.

Sterling dropped to its lowest against the dollar since May and banking stocks plunged on Friday. Economists said they were “more worried” that Britain’s performance might not be as good as previous forecasts.

Well done Reeves.

We were in the middle of riots I also think that won’t be just what they said either.

How has Elon Musk censored people? Who? Where? When?

He regularly blocks folks that debate with him
this was written in jan 2024 guardian
The latest example happened earlier this week when a group of leftwing journalists and commentators, including the Intercept’s excellent reporter Ken Klippenstein, were mysteriously suspended from Twitter (sorry, I will always refuse to call it “X”) without warning or notice as to why. The only thing all the accounts had in common was they had been critical of Israel’s war in Gaza.
After a sustained outcry, their accounts were eventually restored. Musk claimed, with no proof, it was due to a spam purge which caught real accounts in it. If you want to chalk that up to coincidence, that might make sense in a vacuum. But that’s not even his worst transgression in the past six weeks.
When the liberal advocacy site Media Matters published a report alleging that Musk was allowing ads to be served next to hate speech, Musk didn’t just castigate them on his own platform, he sued them. It’s also not the first time Musk has sued an advocacy organization in the past year. Apparently, criticizing him is OK – “the point of freedom of speech is allowing those whose views you disagree with to express those views,” he said this week – unless you also send the criticism to potential ad buyers.
What makes matters worse is that some Republican state attorneys general – perhaps seeking favor in order to later fill their campaign coffers from the richest man in the world – are trying to piggyback on Musk’s enemy of the week. Texas attorney general Ken Paxton opened an “investigation” into Media Matters and the Missouri attorney general is following suit.
You don’t need to be a fan of Media Matters to see how this would be incredibly chilling if the shoe was on the other foot. Imagine if George Soros attempted to bankrupt every rightwing website that accused him of being behind various leftwing plots, as those sites do on almost a daily basis.
The examples of Musk’s hypocrisy are so frequent, it’s hard to keep track of them all
The examples of Musk’s hypocrisy are so frequent, it’s hard to keep track of them all. Musk was once caught taking advice from rightwing online friends about which leftwing accounts to ban next. At times, it seems he’s purposefully throttled links to news sites he doesn’t like. According to former Twitter employers, in the early days of his ownership Musk did a 180 on his supposed principles when faced with pressure from advertisers, going from a leave-everything-up stance to a take-everything-down one.

‘Free Speech Absolutist’ Elon Musk Files Obvious SLAPP Suit Against Non-Profit Critic

There’s so much to dig into on this one. First off, just to state my own bias upfront, I’m not a fan of the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH). Literally just a few days ago I wrote about on…

With respect, your thread is political in nature i.e. pro Labour.

That makes them fair game, in all areas.

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 22/11/2024 15:45

UK business activity shrank for the first time in over a year, according to a closely watched survey, as the private sector warned that confidence in the Labour government has been badly hit by last month’s Budget.
FT

Starmer/Reeves are leading the UK into stagflation. Ardern/Robertson did exactly the same to New Zealand. The big problem is the wildly inefficient public sector. Paying more taxes doesn’t result in better outcomes as most gets taken by increased public sector wages and bureaucracy.

Twitter like many other platforms including Mumsnet ban posters. It's their playground, their rules.

urbanbuddha · 22/11/2024 16:05

Seriously, is he mentally ill, on drugs, just a sad arse who spends too much time on the internet or what?

Yes, his use of illegal drugs and misuse of prescription drugs ( ketamine) is well-documented.

Is he a twat?

He is a right-wing misogynistic twat who has at least 11 children.

He uses IVF and surrogacy to conceive his children and prefers them to be boys.

He's a very peculiar unit.

Remember when he called the English hero who saved the Thai football team a 'paedo' ...

He's weird and dangerous

IIRC wasn't that because he his ego got bruised when he wanted them to use his Tesla submarine thingy and the diver who was on the scene and had actually been in the caves said it wouldn't work. But instead of accepting someone else's superior knowledge, he lashed out instead 🙄.

Underthinker · 22/11/2024 17:03

Musk can be erratic, and makes rash decisions, he has veered from a democrat to a republican and holds Trump in too high a regard IMO.

BUT his attitude to free speech is better than most people who run social media platforms. People who say "but he blocked this person... ", well blocking someone on social media is in no way incompatible with free speech. Everyone has the choice who to listen to and who to ignore. Censorship is when you decide that you don't want to listen to someone so then no one else must be allowed to either.

Underthinker · 22/11/2024 17:05

And as for misinformation. I would much rather have a space where everyone can say exactly what they think even if half of it is total bullshit, than a space where someone in authority decides what is the truth and suppresses the alternatives as "misinformation".
