What is elon musk problem with Britain?

Littlemissgobby · 21/11/2024 17:18

Why the fuck is he attacking our gov decisions like inheritance tax on farms? He seems obsessed with Britain ever since the riots . Also can you imagine if sir Allan sugar was posting stuff about American gov policy like Elon musk is.
All because he’s been summoned about disinformation on X That led to the riots.
is he just a right wing twat? He’s gonna have to pipe down if America wants us to be on their side if I was labour I would be getting so annoyed .
side note I sit left centre but Peter Mandelson licking boots of Elon and trump is a piss take.
maybe we are going to have to move closer to Europe as America is unhinged by the sounds of Elon .

Unlike much of America, which sees him as some sort of genius, Britain knows he's an idiot and he knows we do.

No, we don’t.
”Much of America” thinks he’s an asshole.

Which still leaves a whole lot that don't.

Well everyone laughed at him when he spent $44 billion on twitter and was posting twaddle on it. Now he has the government he wanted and a seat right next to the president. Possibly not as stupid as he comes across.

My take on the Twitter purchase is that he could not afford it.

He tried to walk back his offer through the courts for quite some time but Twitter held him to it.

Government is where the big money actually is for his kind of products. Guaranteed government contracts are a much juicier flow of dollars than funding from Hedge Funds.

He has 19 federal contracts as it stands. Bet they won't get the chop in his efficiency drive...

But seriously, I think he went into this because he needed to.

Just like Trump did in 2016 - when he ran he was close to losing everything but he walked out a very wealthy man.

The NYT did a deep dive on Trump's finances in 2017 (I think, maybe'18) if you are interested.

Manipulating semantics by...quoting misrepresenting the OP?

Yup. I quoted misrepresented the OP.

Yup.

It wasn't me that said the French got it right and is calling for a revolution. I'm more than happy for anyone to say anything hence why I don't report the likes of the OP as it shows the Labour Party fans in their own true light.

Littlemissgobby · 23/11/2024 13:37

Ultimately power corrupts you are right and revolutions don’t tend to happen very much because the people can’t do as much as they can fighting against the might of the government look at China look at the freedom they are going against people in Hong Kong right now people in prison for speaking out against the authority

People right now in the UK are in prison for writing tweets.

MermaidEyes · 24/11/2024 09:37

I can't be bothered to read through the whole thread but he's definitely obsessed with us over here. He tweets and retweets about us constantly, more so than any other country. My theory is he's just jealous he's not British 😆

That's reductively simplistic, isn't it? It was for writing tweets, which incited violence and racial hatred, which has long been illegal.

CelebrityLeftist · 24/11/2024 09:50

Littlemissgobby · 23/11/2024 10:43

Nope he doesn't read what I put it's not going to.people it's going for space etc

He pays more tax than anyone in the US. Who do you think that helps? His companies employ thousands of people? Who does that help? His neuralink company is helping blind people to see again. His starlink company is connecting people in disaster areas and remote parts of the planet. Starlink is making re usable rockets and has achieved more in the last few years than NASA has made in my lifetime. He’s making renewable vehicle technology better for mass transportation such as buses and taxis. He isn’t going to be in a government department but has an advisory role committed to getting rid of government waste in spending people’s tax dollars so they benefit more.

no one is saying he’s perfect but he’s achieved a lot more than most will in their lifetime. He hasn’t named one company after himself yet people talk about his huge ego and call him an evil Bond villain.its pathetic and must be due to envy at his wealth which is typical of Labour supporters who want the money from the rich.

No they are not we have hate crime laws in the uk it's not just writing tweets it's inciting hate like in the middle if a riot wanting to burn immigrants. We also have terrorism laws to if you was to put up u want to bomb london you may be hurled into. One if the people in 2014 stated that a teacher that was stabbed should have been murdered so it's inciting

Nope you are being very simplistic. When you say left, people want the money from the rich. That is not what we want. I'm perfectly happy with people being billionaires. Millionaires even winning the lottery, but at some point when the gap between the rich under poor is widening across the world, you would think That they would want to do more philanthropy and actually help more people and not be so me me me
But maybe that's the issue greedy people

More of the sort of twatty bullshit Musk is tweeting at the moment.

Not sure where this 'Inevitable West' twitter account came from but over the past few weeks it has been posting utter twaddle about 'veterans turning their backs on Starmer at the Cenotaph' (didn't happen) stuff about farmers, this petition, everything is HUGE and Labour will be DESTROYED.

The British people are about to completely humiliate the Labour Party? With a petition of 200k? Does Musk know the population of the UK? Does he know that there won't be a General Election for years? Does he know that General Elections aren't called by petition?

It's all such incredibly stupid stuff that one wonders whether Musk is just pissing around or whether he is actually stupid and doesn't realise it's a stupid account posting stupid things?

What is elon musk problem with Britain?

Factor that in Russian bots and hey oresti reform got more tweets then any other party byline times found out it was Russian bots

What's even funnier than Musk's tweets are all the Americans commenting underneath about what kind of dystopian regime we're living under here and parroting Daily Fail headlines and how they're so lucky to live in a better country than we do. Those in glass houses really shouldn't throw stones.

Whether one likes Musk, or not, I think we can all agree that he is incredibly astute, not just in engineering and marketing, but also in backing ‘winners’.

He bought Twitter/X at an excessive valuation of USD 44bn versus arguably less than USD 10bn fair value today, but he funded Trump, and now he has a platform to promote his particular take on conservatism. Underestimate his political influence at your peril.

As to the UK, our election of a socialist government in July, is contrary to the rise of the right in a number of parts of Europe, and I think we believe that we have more leverage on the world stage than we actually do - we are a declining power, strategically, culturally, demographically.

Just my view, of course.

So basically he has lost value on twitter if he was to sell

He took it private, so there is no way of measuring accurately, but the loss of revenue from advertising (down 22% YoY), in addition to the likely decline in brand value, is instructive.

As others move right and we are contrary to that will be interesting over next five years. If they go that long.

There's already smaller elements of friction eg from France over Starmer's channel policies. That may unwind further. Germany early GE coming up

Then US under Trump

Except if you drive around London with a megaphone shouting "Fuck the Jews, rape their daughters". Then it is perfectly fine and not classed as hate speech and you won't even be prosecuted....

Plus he gave Starlink to Ukraine for free. Sounds very humanitarian to me and he definitely has a positive, life-affirming and futuristic vision for all of humanity in a way that I don't see in the other billionaires who just seem concerned with money and power.

Aaaand.... there it is again, that ubiquitous right-whinge dash for the totally undeserved moral high ground.

The OP's premise, clarified more than once, is that 18th Century French revolutionaries were right to push back against greed, exploitation, injustice and oppression, not right to cut people's heads off with a guillotine.

But you already knew that, right?
