What's the most ridiculous thing you've even been accused of?

Just that really, Something so obviously nonsense that you couldn't believe anyone would take it seriously.

For me without doubt, it was when my parents thought I'd robbed a bank.
I was 17 and at school at the time of the robbery......

To this day I'm not entirely convinced they believe I wasn't involved 🙄

Favouritism - 🤦‍♀️

Anonym00se · 15/11/2024 18:15

Not me, but back in the day DM reported my Dad to the police as she suspected he could be the Yorkshire Ripper. To be fair, he did fit the profile in many ways and he was a brute.

I got accused in advance of blaming my mother for my miscarriage

I miscarried our second child during one of her protracted tantrums/harassment campaigns, it had been going on for 3 months with wall-to wall abuse and barrages of messages, phone calls throughout the night, threats and hate mail. DH finally answered one of the calls at 4am and told her I was having a miscarriage and could she please just knock it off for a while. She immediately started screaming "sprigatito is blaming me for a miscarriage, it's evil, I will never forgive either of you for this". Neither of us had said any such thing. I have health problems that make pregnancy risky for me, and she knew that.

It was one of the many nails in the coffin of our "relationship".

In primary school I was accused of pushing over my friend when I was actually helping her back up after a lad had shoved her over.

I was the sweetest wouldn’t-say-boo-to-a-goose kid ever and the headmistress was ranting and raving about what a nasty girl I was. She sent me to stand in a corner for the rest of day.

I sobbed my little heart out and 37 years later I still feel so aggrieved.

Chowtime · 15/11/2024 18:21

When I worked as a home carer when I was 40 and gorgeous one woman rang the office to complain that I was trying to steal her 85 year old overweight bald disabled husband, I used to chat to him
Whilst she was sat on the toilet for 5 minutes.

She didn't have dementia either.

Cheating at Chinese Whispers at Brownies... still holding a grudge against Brown Owl...

BeADinosaur · 15/11/2024 18:22

I was a suspect in a murder enquiry once.

I wasn't at all involved, but I looked a bit like one of the actual people involved, worked in the area it happened and the CCTV they had was such poor quality that it honestly could have been me!

Thankfully I had an absolute ironclad alibi so wasn't looked at for very long!

Sierra26 · 15/11/2024 18:24

Accused of pushing in line at LIDL by a man who joined the line behind me in a normal way when my stuff was already on the belt

Totally normal seeming young man, when I tried to explain I’d been here the whole time he told me I was a disgusting liar

Echobelly · 15/11/2024 18:24

At secondary school I had a history essay marked down because the teacher said I had copied a paragraph from a book I had never heard of, let alone seen or read. I was really pissed off about that.

SlightlyGoneOff · 15/11/2024 18:24

I only discovered this after I’d left the job, but I was thought to be having a torrid affair with a colleague, based on us having breakfast together regularly, because I used to commute into central London very early from Oxford, and he used to come and meet me because his wife had just left him for their plumber, and he was having some kind of breakdown. All he wanted to do was talk about Kurdish independence.

TickingAlongNicely · 15/11/2024 18:25

I was accused of spreading a rumour about someone.
I was the only person not there at the time, but by the next day everyone agreed it was me. I was then ignored by everyone fr the rest of the two week trip.

Being controlling and throwing my Ex out. He followed it up claiming my family threatened him and that I was transphobic.

None of it was true, but it wrecked my reputation and career.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 15/11/2024 18:26

Of stealing money out the till in a shop. I had been there a while, but the new franchise owners were wanting to replace all the staff with their own family, firing us was against the rules, so they just mistreated us till we all left. Their son had put the takings in the wrong bag, and they immediately accused me of stealing them. And then coming back into work the next day. I left and immediately picked up more hours at a different branch in the same city.

wendywoopywoo222 · 15/11/2024 18:27

I was accused of having an affair as his wife found a blonde hair on his jacket and I worked in the pub.

He was easily twice my age, he was having an affair but not with me.

I had a little boy when I was 18, he, sadly died when he was very young, he had a lot of complications, it was unexpected when he took ill, but we were un hospital and I donated his organs when I took him off life support, so it's not like there was ever a suspicion I killed him or anything.

I had actually just been up to register his death and heard a shop assistant and a customer gossiping about a teen mum who got drunk and murdered her child and went into details about arrests etc. Then they said the day and street and I realised they were talking about me and when my sons health started declining.

I went all out, and showed the pair of evil bastards my sons death certificate and left them looking shame faced.

So, yes, murdering my own child was a pretty bad accusation.

evtheria · 15/11/2024 18:28

(I've mentioned this before on a thread)

Accused of stealing a coworker's retainer (the wire thing they wear in their mouth to help keep their teeth straight).

I was actually quite upset because I'd no idea that they'd been telling everyone else I stole it, whilst still being friendly with me, and I only found out when I moved to a different site.

I am so sorry, that is truly awful.

romdowa · 15/11/2024 18:29

Of robbing a credit union when I was 17 . Thankfully I was 300 miles away visiting family on the weekend in question but I always thought what if I'd just been at home ?

Bloody hell, that’s awful. I’m so sorry to read that. I hope the gossips were thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 15/11/2024 18:30

Not ridiculous, but there was a rumour going round that I had shagged a senior member of staff at work to get a promotion. The person that started the rumour was having an affair with a senior person at work. Naturally.

Slightly funnier was a rumour that I was obsessed with my RE teacher when I was at school. I only found out about this years later when I was speaking to another teacher on a night out. God knows why that one started. 😂

Manyindigowings · 15/11/2024 18:30

Being a narcissist 😳 “Well you spot it you got it” thinks I. 🤭

BarbaraVineFan · 15/11/2024 18:31

Racism.

I'm a teacher. I am white. I caught three boys (two white, one black) bullying another boy and being homophobic towards him. All three were sanctioned according to school policy. The black boy's mum accused me of racism and refused to speak to me again.

It actually really upset me deeply, to be honest, that someone could accuse me of being racist.

NavyPombear · 15/11/2024 18:31

It amazes me how people who know you can so easily believe something so ridiculous. However, these same people don't believe you when you tell them it's not true.

The police pulled me over as I was driving a car similar to one they were looking for. They searched it while telling me I wasn’t free to go. I was terrified. I had a homemade wedding cake in the back and they opened the box!
