They just can’t top the bear/hare one.

Sheknowsaboutme · 14/11/2024 06:55

Exactly! Loving the animals in them.

This one was too fast, confusing (who were those people?) and what did she buy?!

Agree. An awful cacophony of noise accompanied by equally confusing visuals. Definitely won’t be indulging in my yearly weep at this one.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 14/11/2024 07:00

I loved it. although I have a large, happy family, I like that it’s looking at other relationships too.

My favourite was the young boy counting down the days until Christmas…as he couldn’t wait to give his parents their present.

RestitutionGranted · 14/11/2024 07:01

Disappointing. If you’re going to do a story, have a proper ending. Not knowing what the gift is, or relating it back to the previous two minutes you’ve had to watch as they push every product they sell, is just irritating.

GrumpyCactus · 14/11/2024 07:05

I watched it and felt like I missed something major it wasn't really festive or emotive it seemed very thrown together, the story didn't make sense and then it just ended?

TheKneesOfTheBees · 14/11/2024 07:06

I don't get it either, now I feel old and stupid 😂

Whinge · 14/11/2024 07:08

Very disappointing, and I dread to think how much it cost.

WTFMartin · 14/11/2024 07:08

They need to sack their advertising agency as they’ve mad crap adverts for the last few years. Bring back the bear and the hare and the snowman going for the gloves and scarf. Great song but not for a Christmas advert.

RestitutionGranted · 14/11/2024 07:09

Apparently the mother is dead, according to a newspaper review. Pictured standing in the kitchen washing up (nice sexism there JL) with the sister, not sure how we are supposed to know she’s now dead.

And the pregnant one is the sister who looks like a completely different actor/person.

She's meant to be dead? How on earth were we meant to infer that? Sounds like someone made a shit advert and then tried to cobble together some meaning to it post production.

Tiredmomma86 · 14/11/2024 07:18

I still remember the joy I felt after the Buster advert-truly one that led you feeling happy afterward. I haven’t seen the newest one but I’m disappointed that it’s not as magical, again 😔 these ads really have become part of the Christmas experience!

Floofydawg · 14/11/2024 07:21

God you're all miserable.

GrumpyCactus · 14/11/2024 07:22

Why miserable? It's honestly not a very good advert and it's ok to say that.

2025Z · 14/11/2024 07:22

Who did the dogs bouncing on the trampoline I loved that one !

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 14/11/2024 07:25

The mum is dead? I thought it was leading up to the sister being dead!

thecatfromjapan · 14/11/2024 07:28

I liked it.
It resonated with me because, yes, when I buy presents for people I'm close to, it takes me back through all the points of being with them. And, yes, I want to find something that tells them I know them & can find something they'll love.
And I have sisters.
Call me a consumerist sucker!!!

BobnLen · 14/11/2024 07:32

It was alright, at least it wasn't stuffed toys.

whosaidtha · 14/11/2024 07:33

I liked it. I think comparing them to classics from years ago is pointless. I still loved the countdown to Christmas one. But I do think this one is nice. It's not a cute animal, they've gone in a different direction. It's good.

RestitutionGranted · 14/11/2024 07:38

Looking forward to them chopping it up so they get ad slots cheaper and making it make even less sense Confused

The one thing I did like is that women are front and centre.

I knew the mum was dead by the look on her daughter's face when she saw her in the kitchen with her sister.

I don't think it's hard to understand? Woman is looking for a gift for her sister, struggling to think of anything, so she steps back into her memories and runs back through childhood/previous stages of her life with her sister to try and think of something. All the children/pregnant woman/woman outside the pub were her sister.

I didn't think it was great tbh but I got the concept. Only real crap thing is not seeing what present she actually bought!

CheeseandMarmiteToastie · 14/11/2024 07:44

It completely confused me, the women all looked too similar and as a pp said it’ll be chopped up for ad slots so will make even less sense - I never see the full version except on YouTube!

Very underwhelmed.

gettingolderbutcooler · 14/11/2024 07:44

I didn't care what the gift was- I loved the returning through the childhood years- brought a tear to my eye!

rolloverbeethoven · 14/11/2024 07:46

Haven't seen it yet, is it as objectionable as the Boots one?

Sluj · 14/11/2024 07:50

I'm glad you've all explained it to me.

Much preferred the "Not the real John Lewis" ad featuring the Robin.

Tescos is best so far this year
