What side of the bed do you sleep on?

In relation to your bedroom door?
I need help to settle a debate with a friend.
I say most men sleep by the door, and most women away from. Could be sexist claptrap but I think I'm onto something.

On the left at home and wherever looks best when we go on holiday.

I always sleep on the left as you look at it from the bottom. Our previous house that was near the door this one is further away.
We've moved into a much smaller home and it's a little bit awkward getting to my side (small space, big bum) we tried swapping but neither of us were comfortable so we're back in our own places.

There's probably a historical, gender roles basis for this IF there's a trend.

Maybe men need to be near the door for defense should someone break in... or maybe they 'delegate' the space near the door to avoid being the one who has to get up during the night to tend to the kids...

On the right, furthest from the door
