What side of the bed do you sleep on?

In relation to your bedroom door?
I need help to settle a debate with a friend.
I say most men sleep by the door, and most women away from. Could be sexist claptrap but I think I'm onto something.

The door is at the bottom of the bed so neither side is closer to the door. I sleep on the right hand side of the bed near the window because I like to look at the night sky and my cats sleep on the other side of the kingsize bed.
I dont have a partner.

Seasmoke · 11/11/2024 20:31

I also sleep closest to the door and ut was due to DC. I sleep well but still will wake up to any sound from the kids even though they are teens!

I sleep diagonally or starfish in the middle.

Me too. The absolute joy of sleeping alone.

soundsys · 11/11/2024 20:34

At home by the bedroom door - I think this stems from when the children were smaller and would just climber over DH to get to me in the night if he was in the way!

We were away at the weekend and DH slept by the door.

In PILs house, I sleep by the door. In my parents house, I sleep furthest from the door.

I've never given this that much thought before now, but it's clearly not consistent!

Whichever one of us goes to bed first chooses.

This is winning at life! I have lost the battle to not have a side 😩

shieldmaiden7 · 11/11/2024 20:37

Nearest the door as I'm the one who wakes to the kids in the night and nearest the toilet when I was pregnant.

Confusedmermaid1 · 11/11/2024 20:42

I always sleep nearest the door at home and away
No kids yet but I’m much more likely than DH to need the loo in the night and I also do ‘on call’ for work so I’m up and down on those nights
DH would sleep through the house falling down so I’d have to wake him if someone broke in anyway 😂

Saschka · 11/11/2024 20:44

I sleep on the left, so whether I am closest or furthest from the door depends on the layout of the room - I was closest in our last house, furthest in current house. I stay on the left in hotel rooms etc. Would be so weird to sleep on the right after 20 years of sleeping on the left!

ThePoshUns · 11/11/2024 20:52

Nearest the door in the house, which is the left side of the bed.
If not at home I'm always on the left regardless of where the door is. I can't sleep on the right side

Butteredtoast55 · 11/11/2024 20:54

I like to be nearest the window so inadvertently furthest from the door usually.

pizzaHeart · 11/11/2024 21:02

FuckMiniBabybells · 11/11/2024 20:24

'Fraid not.
I concede that it was a load of sexist claptrap.

At least you proved that! 🙂

Relata · 11/11/2024 21:05

We switch sides fairly regularly, I’m at the door side at the moment but last week wasn’t.

AgileGreenSeal · 11/11/2024 18:32

I sleep closer to the door leading onto the patio, further away from the door leading into the rest of the house.

This!

In our old house I was by the window, furthest away from the door. That was the different side of the bed to what we do now. Old house was because we had a lower ceiling on the window side and I'm shorter. This time it's because I wanted to be by the patio doors.

Yes and no snoring, thrashing about, farting or being woken by loo visits with all lights switched on 🙄

Being single has many, many benefits.

So, so many. I have a kingsize all to myself. Bliss.

riverwitch · 12/11/2024 03:28

In all our 4 homes, I've slept by the door.
Whenever we've been away, I've now just realized, I've slept away from the door.

EvilMama · 12/11/2024 05:08

Always on the right until we had the DC. Then I got relegated to whichever side was closest to the door so I could go and settle the DC with as little noise as possible.

2Sensitive · 12/11/2024 05:17

I sleep on the right regardless of the room and where the door is x

CalicoPusscat · 12/11/2024 05:41

Bed? BED?? I only moved last month so this is a single mattress on the floor! Mine is in storage so hopefully I can afford to get my furniture out of storage next month

autienotnaughty · 12/11/2024 05:43

KnopkaPixie · 11/11/2024 18:37

I sleep closer to the door. And I have the chair with my back to the wall looking out at restaurants.

Exactly the same!

honestasever · 12/11/2024 05:47

I always sleep on the left (as you’re lying down - not facing the bed). We travel a lot and it’s always that way.

The position of the door is irrelevant

DiscoBeat · 12/11/2024 05:52

DH sleeps nearest the door but only because it's also nearest the ensuite as he tends to get up for a visit in the night whereas I don't.

Actually I was glad I was on my own yesterday, I had a dream where I was in my old uni house and there were zoo animals. Some creature was trying to attack a baby elephant and I woke myself up slapping the mattress and shouting NO thinking it was the predator's rump

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 12/11/2024 08:02

When we slept in the same room I always slept in the left, nearest the door although that had nothing to do with it. Now snoring has forced us into separate rooms I still sleep on the left.

StarlightLady · 12/11/2024 08:17

In the middle 😀.

surely left handed and right handed come into this?
