Lol, yes. Im not a huge milk fan, but when I do have it (mostly in coffee), I like it pasteurised into something as far removed from cow juice as possible.

@AcrossthePond55

Honestly, I think there will be some show deportations so they can have public standoffs with Democratic governors and that will be about it, but I accept that could be an optimistic scenario. I'm not sure who they think is going to be rebuilding California...

One of my kids is in grad school in a city that keeps being mentioned as potentially being the first target. I feel hypocritical because I'm vacillating between of course, you need to get involved and do the right thing helping to protect vulnerable people, and, whatever you do, don't get hurt or arrested.

See, that's a big part of the pardoning of the Insurrectionists.

Rachel was actually talking about this. It shows that Scrotus wants us to believe that these 'militias' who follow him are 'above the law' just as Hitler's Brownshirts were. It's to instill a fear in morally 'right-thinking' people that if they stand up against fascism, they will be subject to violent attacks, either at protests or via attacks on their homes.

If your kid is in a 'primary target' city, I'd be willing to bet he's in a blue state. Not asking you where, just surmising based on what I've seen in the media about 'primary targets'. So the following are some 'points to ponder'. And again, this is just my own feelings.

At this point we don't know just how far Scrotus will go in encouraging and/or allowing his 'Trumpshirts' to go as far as physically attacking people who are simply exercising their Constitutional right to protest to stand up for their and others' rights. My feeling is that he'll follow his usual "Will someone not rid me of this annoying priest' line and do a big fat nothing. He won't 'order them out' but neither will he say "Stop!". Any 'encouragement' from him will have layers upon layers between him and any attackers.

Blue states will use local and state LEO to protect protesters and to enforce state laws, but no federal enforcement will be invoked. So unfortunately, red state protesters may well be on their own unless the local authorities intervene. God help anyone who lives in Texas or that ilk. But I do feel that if the Trumpshirts are going to start violence, it's not going to be right away. There is going to be a 'wait and see' period where they, too, test the waters just as rally organizers and participants will.

I'm in CA. I'd expect to see a large local LEO presence at any big city rallies as most large cities in CA lean left. However, I think of San Diego (city) or Orange County as 'up in the air' as those areas are in 'flux' and at present tend to the right. Smaller communities or a city located in a 'red' area/county, maybe not so much. So, I'd probably feel safer attending a rally in, say, LA metro, SF Bay Area or Sacramento metro than I would in Fresno, Anaheim, or Redding. Gavin has the ability to mobilize the CHP and Nat'l Guard should he choose to, but I think he'd use that sparingly unless absolutely necessary.

DH and I (as 'older people') are going to be cautious at first scoping out the surroundings and the attendees and we will leave at the first sign of trouble. In my younger days I probably would have had a 'stay and fight' mentality, but we're just too physically vulnerable now.

I think we can probably sum Musk up in 2 words - Daddy issues.

I think it was on TRIP but I heard someone say that an old interview with Musk’s dad from about 5/10 years ago had resurfaced in which he was very dismissive of Musk saying he never thought he’d amount to anything. Maybe all Elon needs is a hug?!

I mean - tech genius, multi-billionaire with daddy issues. That’s a super villain origin story if ever I heard one!

does he own a white cat..?

😿

The last one I saw last night was that he'd withdrawn the US from the WHO. How can people not realise how incredibly dangerous this administration is going to be?

More than 50% of those who voted don't realise how dangerous this administration is going to be. The rest of us, whether we voted or not, but who do realise the terrible consequences, are set to watch with horror from the sidelines, with there being, apparently, nothing we can do to stop it. The American Constitution can't contain him, so America is well and truly buggered.

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/01/2025 18:47

Are we past the 24hr mark for ending the war in Ukraine now?

Wow. Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde fearlessly calls out Trump and Vance to their faces. This is heroic.

Wow. Just wow. A woman of true courage and honour. But unfortunately her words have fallen on Scrotus' deaf ears.

But hopefully those words will fall on hearing ears somewhere and change a few minds or become a call to action.

Biology is not their strong point Confused

In what way ?
Sperm sorting works because sex is determined at conception.

DuncinToffee · 21/01/2025 23:40

Fetal sex doesn't begin to differentiate until about 6/7 weeks into gestation.

According to the order they’re to be defined based on whether people are born with eggs or sperm, not chromosomes

at conception the development pathway, triggered by the set of chromosomes, is already set. the wording in this order is correct as far as I can see.

at that very early stage a human embyro looks a lot like any other mammalian and even avian embryo,

CaveMum · 22/01/2025 07:27

I’m with @Talkinpeace abd @bloodredfeaturewall on this one. Fetal sex is determined at conception, even if the differences don’t appear visible until several weeks later. Otherwise, as has been said, sex selection of embryos during IVF would not be possible.

This idea that everyone starts out as female is a myth perpetrated by the gender ideology lobby to justify the idea that people can be “born in the wrong body”.

CaveMum · 22/01/2025 08:26

So we’ve got the infrastructure announcement - huge investment in AI capabilities. That explains the Tech Bro love-in at the Inauguration.

More bizarre pardons too - the creator of The Silk Road website which operated on the dark web allowing drugs amongst other things to be bought/sold.

borntobequiet · 22/01/2025 08:33

Isn’t much of the US plagued by crumbling actual infrastructure? No plans to address this I imagine. I can’t see many ordinary citizens’ lives improving via AI.
I agree with Trump on one thing, the reality of sex, and am pleased with that EO.
Shame the Democrats got themselves hijacked by gender ideology.

Spandauer · 22/01/2025 09:25

DH's brother used to regularly cross a substantial bridge over the Willamette River in Portland, OR (that was known to be not well maintained) and always lowered the windows in the car when he crossed it... so he could easily escape if the bridge collapsed and the car fell into the water.

OP posts:
CaveMum · 22/01/2025 09:28

Well exactly @borntobequiet, whilst AI is undoubtedly the future and will go a long way to improving people’s lives, the physical infrastructure of the country, not to mention the healthcare system, needs addressing as a matter of urgency.

I see Trump is also using the Executive Orders for a spot of petty point scoring - Alastair Campbell pointed out in todays TRIP that he has ordered that John Bolton (his former National Security advisor) have his security clearance revoked, alongside all the US Intelligence officials who worked on the “Hunter Biden laptop” investigation and who thought it may have been a Russian plot to undermine Joe Biden.

Lotta big money in drugs. Remember a lot of dystopian science fiction is set in a a future where drugs are legal but controlled (i.e someone makes money).

Here, the UK is a world leader - being one of the worlds biggest growers of hemp cannabis, while still managing to keep it away from the plebs.

The alternative explanation is that the far right used people's outsized terror over, like, 43 trans college athletes to whip up hysteria and get people to vote against their own interests.

I think Trump has sexually assaulted more women than trans athletes have taken places from women.

There's some very interesting reporting out there on how this was a deliberate campaign, started some time ago, when the religious right realised they'd lost support on gay marriage, which previously had been their divisive cultural issue.
