I hope it will pan out that way. Right now DS has to focus on his degree and on his health, his antidepressants have stopped working and he's struggling to keep going,so putting himself first is sensible. He's not partner material right now and he knows it.

The fact that he knows to put himself first and that right now isn't the time to 'partner up' is very positive.

When my nephew's anti-Ds stopped being as effective, the Dr rx'd Rexulti and it seemed to do the trick. Not sure if it's available in the UK though or what the name might be there.

And I'm not a Dr or a medical expert so YMMV.

Llttledrummergirl · 19/11/2024 14:11

@pointythings my ds1 was in a similar place last year. He had headspace for either his first year, very intense internship working on call every other weekend, or for his ldr with his very lovely girlfriend, but sadly not both. Something had to give, and 5 years of university plus a fabulous start to his future had to be the priority.

It was a bloody hard decision but his wellbeing depended on making it. A year on and he is in a good place.

It's hard though on them and selfishly us.

Just saw this - Not much more to add as yet

DA Alvin Bragg is refusing to throw out the 34 felony count conviction of Trump but is putting the case on hold for now. He indicates he will fight any Trump motion to dismiss.

Why? What is the point of delaying it if he still intended to do it?

Spandauer · 19/11/2024 18:55

Not sure! He's been found guilty by jury decision so I would have thought that can't be changed? But it's Teflon Don we're talking about so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gaetz's lawsuit file has been accessed by person/persons unknown.

An unidentified person appears to have accessed documents shared among lawyers in a lawsuit that concerns allegations against former congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), according to a person who received an email notifying them of the breach. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter.
The file contains unredacted sworn testimony from a woman who said Gaetz paid to have sex with her when she was 17, along with other depositions from witnesses involved in the case, said a person who was notified of the hack, which was first reported by the New York Times. (WaPo)

Trump sentencing delay:

"In a letter to Judge Juan Merchan, the district attorney’s office also acknowledged that Trump is not likely to be sentenced “until after the end of Defendant’s upcoming presidential term.” But the DA says Trump’s felony conviction should stand.
A source in close to the district attorney’s office said it is open to a four year pause of the case."

Manhattan DA agrees to postpone Donald Trump’s sentencing in hush money case but opposes dismissal | CNN Politics

The Manhattan district attorney’s office said Tuesday it would agree to postpone Donald Trump’s sentencing in his hush money case to give prosecutors time to litigate the president-elect’s expected motion to dismiss the case.

So are we talking 'Deep Throats' numbers two and/or three and will those documents suddenly appear online?

I’m assuming if they delay sentencing until after he’s served his 4 year term he can’t pardon himself. Is there any time limit on how long sentencing can be delayed?

Spandauer · 20/11/2024 09:49

The DA's plan is to sit it out but I expect El Dumbo will go after the DA (on all levels - personal and prosecutorial) as soon as he gets his flying monkeys organised.

Also it seems the jury's verdict could be legally reversed!

Trump has asked that the verdict be overturned or the case be thrown out entirely. If Judge Merchan tosses the conviction, he could order a new trial which would be delayed for at least four years until Trump leaves office or dismiss the indictment altogether.

Merchan has already delayed the sentencing twice first following the immunity decision in July, and again in September to "to avoid any appearance however unwarranted -- that the proceeding has been affected by or seeks to affect the approaching Presidential election," the judge said.

He can't pardon himself in the NY case. It's a state case and he can only pardon federal crimes.

No idea about the time limit. I suppose it can be delayed indefinitely.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/11/2024 17:17

@Spandauer

Any jury verdict can be overturned. But there have to be legal grounds for doing so. Trump's team has been filing legal motions for this since Day 1.

I don't think Merchan is going to toss the verdict off his own back unless he has to. No one wants to see a new trial 5 years from now. Trump won't be out of office until Jan 2029.

No, I think we're in a holding pattern.

SCOTUS can overturn a state decision.

Ea2: Or so I believe - it's how the constitution is enforced ?

Edited

Yes, this is true. They'd have to find a way to make the verdict unconstitutional though. They can't actually pardon him, though. That power lies with the POTUS.

I'm pretty sure their 'presidential immunity' ruling doesn't affect this as he wasn't POTUS when he did the payola to Stormy Daniels so it can't be considered 'in the performance of his duties'.

But we are in completely uncharted territory, aren't we? Who knows what will happen if/when the numerous motions to dismiss make their way to the SCOTUS. They've already twisted themselves in knots to do his bidding.

Joe Biden 82 today!

As previously discussed... who are the young Dems who will replace the 70/80 year old guys/gals and convince the voters that they are the future and will they be ready by 2026/2028?

Gibson copy, Les Paul ripoff.

Notice Gibson themselves haven’t announced anything, thank fuck.

Probably a cheap Chinese knock off made for $50 that sounds like absolutely shite, priced for suckers that don’t know the difference.

House Republicans have voted to block the release of an Ethics Committee report into sexual misconduct and illicit drug use allgations against Matt Gaetz, Trump’s highly controversial pick for Attorney General.
Senators have said they want it before confirmation.

Federal investigators established a trail of payments from Matt Gaetz to women, including some who testified he hired them for sex, according to a document obtained by The New York Times and a lawyer representing some of the women.

Sorry for not RTFT but since the "improvement" that won't be happening.

Ellen de Generes and her partner are apparently coming to the UK as exiles. Or so a Stewart Lee reddit said ("Americas loss is Britains loss too" in a nod to an old James Corden gag).

Apologies if you reply and I don't see it. I'm sure we will all get used to the new normal.
