How often do you wake for a wee in the night?

I wake up at least once a night, sometimes twice. Without fail. It's super annoying. I don't drink tea after lunch (that just made me wee more) and try not to drink too much water in the evening, but still. Obviously when I was pregnant it was even worse.

Literally never. Although sometimes I have a huge peppermint tea before bed and I wake up really desperate for a massive wee. But it never wake me up in the night.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 07/11/2024 21:17

Two or three times, always have since very young. I’m a light sleeper so if I wake up, I go to the restroom.

Thesilkinsideachesnutshell · 07/11/2024 21:18

Hardly ever. And I take a pint of squash to bed which I drink through the night without knowing.

Frequently. Every 3 hrs or so is normal for me but it can be as bad as every hour if I've not watched my fluid intake at night.
I always need to wee much more at night than during the day and have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, in the information booklet I was given it lists that as a symptom.

WomanInTheBoat · 07/11/2024 21:22

I am 62. From about 50 onwards it was once a night but in the last year or so it’s been 2 + times - very annoying - even though I do usually go straight back to sleep, I find I need an extra hour sleep in the morning to feel refreshed.
I am quite fit and healthy, do a lot of walking and pilates, so I guess it’s just my age.
Just bought the JUDE tablets to see if that helps.

VicSynix · 07/11/2024 21:28

This thread is making me feel so much better about the fact that I always, always wake up once for a wee - usually about 3 hours after I've gone to bed. Very reassuring to know that it's fairly common.

And if I overindulge on the wine, I wake up because I need a wee and I'm really thirsty, so I drink some water, then I wake up 2 hours later because I need a wee and I'm still thirsty, etc etc.

I also have the anxiety dreams about not being able to find a loo.

stargazer02 · 07/11/2024 21:28

Since having DD2 (very big baby) I have to go right before I go to sleep at 11ish, then at least twice a night and it's a rush when I first wake up at 6.30/7.
I didn't really think much of it, just thought it was how it was going to be. Then I randomly started getting Jude ads. And my mum was considering trying some for urgency issues and mentioned an offer code, So I took the plunge. Within 2 weeks I could go from 9pm til 6.30/7 and still not rush for loo when I wake. I took for 8ish weeks then randomly got out of the habit about a month ago and the positive effects have lasted. I have more on hand in case I need to start again.
During the day I've noticed a change too - I used to worry about availability of loos. Didn't book seats in middle of a row in cinema etc as I couldn't always last the whole movie.
Sorry this sounds like an ad. I was just amazed at how quick the difference was after just putting up with it for a decade ( Dr just recommended kegels when I asked!)

ilovepixie · 07/11/2024 21:29

On average about 4 times. I can go all day without a pee but come nighttime it's like Niagra falls!

bryceQ · 07/11/2024 21:31

Never and I drink a glass of water before bed.

GroovyChick87 · 07/11/2024 21:31

Usually once but it depends on how much tea I've drank before bed. I always go to bed with a cup of tea, can't sleep without it but if I fall asleep without going for a wee I will wake up bursting without fail. I'm 37.

Pixiedust49 · 07/11/2024 21:33

At least twice and always been the same. Can’t last more than about 2 hours at most during the day either! Nightmare for travelling!

HÆLTHEPAIN · 07/11/2024 21:34

I’m late 40’s and often go twice a night now, however I’ve always gone once since having my eldest at 20.

Sometimes, if I’ve eaten lots of veg or rice as in food that contains water, for my evening meal, I can be up every 90 minutes!! And on the first night of my period it’s usually a few times.

I’m also the same as a PP where I have wee dreams where I need the loo and they’re so real!!! I actually dream I go to the toilet but as soon as I get off, I need to go again and then have to find another one!

Bumply · 07/11/2024 21:35

I’m 62 and typically go once a night, sometimes more.
i did notice on a canoe trip with wild camping that towards the end of the week my desire not to go out the the tent and find somewhere to wee in the dark managed to overcome the usually pressing desire to relieve myself, so it did seem to be partly habit.

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 07/11/2024 21:37

Mostly not at all, but I do go through spells of going (once) maybe 3 or 4 nights in a week then nothing again for a few weeks. I don't drink anything much after about 9 especially not tea or coffee. Rarely drink alcohol at all. Mid 50s.

PurpleChrayn · 07/11/2024 21:38

Never unless pregnant.

Then, a lot of times.

BrendaSmall · 07/11/2024 21:41

On medication for over active bladder!
before I started taking them I was up every 30 minutes/ hour!
im now up 1/2 a night

Samphire44 · 07/11/2024 21:43

Mid 40s. Varies a lot and I go through phases of needing 1 wee a night and then have a few weeks of not needing to at all. I think it is linked to an irritated bladder from a Prolapse. It is also more likely if I need to take pills with water at bedtime as otherwise I avoid water after 7pm.

UmopapIsdn · 07/11/2024 21:44

Once or twice a night.

Thats a vast improvement on the 10+ it used to be. I’d sometimes go twice in 20 minutes!

My bladder is a bit fucked and I now use a catheter before bed. Fucking amazing. I use it before long journeys or nights out too and it’s been life changing honestly. My life used to be ruled by my bladder!

JudyJulie · 07/11/2024 21:45
  1. Used to wake up once a night, then started taking a collagen supplement and mostly longer wake up at all.
whatcanthematterbe81 · 07/11/2024 21:46

Twice every night. Pisses me off so much. Had tests as I was adamant something must be wrong. It's not. Just my life

whatcanthematterbe81 · 07/11/2024 21:48

rookiemere · 07/11/2024 19:11

In my 50s, generally once or twice a night. Minimum 6 times if camping with no easy access to a toilet.

😂

At least twice...sometimes three or four times. This is since menopause hit and I've had night sweats...🤦‍♀️ I wake up constantly and if I'm awake, I need a wee...I try and ignore it but that makes it worse 😨

But even before menopause it was at least once! I even have 'wee dreams' which are awful, where I'm dreaming that I'm desperate for a wee, but either can't find a loo, or the ones I do find are very public (open) or filthy dirty/broken, so I have to keep searching, and I'm getting more and more frantic! I always wake up just at the point where I'm about to have an 'unfortunate incident'! 😨

In real life, if I was THIS desperate, I'd just do a 'wild wee' 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️😂

Oh my god so I'm not the only one who has them dreams! They're bloody awful aren't they. I'm 38 and if I'm not having my usual insomnia nights then I'm up probably 3 times a night

suburburban · 07/11/2024 22:10

Yes I sometimes dream about not being able to find a loo.

gerenet · 07/11/2024 22:14

Rarely, a few times a year. Usually when I've had lots to drink late at night (not necessarily alcohol). I just wee before bed and don't need to go again until the morning. I'm 45.

Delphiniumandlupins · 07/11/2024 22:15

Into my 50s I rarely needed a wee when sleeping in my own bed but always did away from home. Now in my 60s and I usually wake (and need a wee) every 4 hours. Rarely more often and sometimes a bit longer but up at least once every night.
