Looks like Trump could win?

It's looking good for Trump. My dad is a total Trump hater and has been convinced that he won't win, especially since Kamala took over.
I don't know how the system works but is it too early to say that Trump is going to win?

I'm genuinely confused this time. Why???

Up until this point I have only rationalised it by thinking that the majority of the American population must simply be uneducated and/or stupid. But I am starting to think there is something else I need to be aware of.

Can anyone explain to me why Americans have voted this way?

Genuine question- and at this point I'm honestly willing to listen and learn, because obviously the Democrats are getting something majorly wrong that I'm just not aware of. How can they have failed so badly as to warrant at Trump victory?

This is very depressing 😥

Lived in NY for 3 years and worked in a bank with loads of educated people.

One thing about Americans is that they mainly look out for themselves, people want lower taxes and any financial decision that will benefit them.

I was there during Obama’s first election and some were truly terrified about what he’d do to their country with his ‘socialist’ ideas.

we hear about the South supporting him but he would never make it without America’s middle class’ vote.

What a depressing day for the world. What's the most worrying thing is whether Trump will move to change the law so that he carries on after this next term.

It’s not depressing at all. The majority of Americans have who they voted for.
And the rest of the world has only got worse over the last four years. I’m delighted.

GoldenSunflowers · 06/11/2024 06:30

This is not a good result for the world. How grotesque that this convicted felon is so close to power again. Women, mind your pussies.

I'm horrified and one of my huge concerns is that it gives weight and credibility to some awful and frankly unacceptable views.

I'm a teacher in the UK and let me tell you that there will be students today who feel more emboldened to be racist, xenophobic and misogynistic.

If you're celebrating this, take a long look in the mirror.

Absolutely chuffed at the rejection of the left wing.

Lets hope it is soon replicated in the UK.

It's done! GO DONALD TRUMP!!! A question...will you sore losers accept the results of this election?

@Iloveautumnwinterchristmas I think depressed losers would be a better description

Of course the results will be accepted by the democrats, why would you think they wouldn't?
It wasn't Biden supporters that stormed the capital on Jan 6th

Zonder · 06/11/2024 06:32

Iloveautumnwinterchristmas · 06/11/2024 06:27

No, I think the lying morons you were all shouting for were going to do that.

Interesting. Up thread someone commented that democrats are the ones calling the opposition names.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 06/11/2024 06:33

This isn’t good.

Lyannaa · 06/11/2024 06:33

@Llhaaf well clearly you can only see directly in front of your nose if you are unable to process what another Trump presidency could mean for the world.

He stops support for Ukraine. Putin wins and is then emboldened to go after other countries in Europe who he threatens with nukes. This is no laughing matter. Unless you're an intellectual lightweight I guess.

Rejection of the left wing! It's rejection of centre right in favour of further right. It wasn't Bernie standing against trump you know.

BlastedPimples · 06/11/2024 06:34

Snowflake. Woke. All these crappy insults. It's so lame.

Trump is a convicted felon.

Why are you so pleased? It's bizarre to be pleased that such a man who has rape accusations hanging over him should be president.

And as for women's rights, you'd have to be deluded to think he would ever prioritise them let alone care one bit.

Nothing to do with woke or being a snowflake.

Are you male? I fail to see how any woman in her right mind could be delighted that a misogynist yields all that power.

Perfect28 · 06/11/2024 06:34

@EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime you want Kemi 'i don't believe in mental health, autism or maternity leave" Badenoch?

I knew the world was going to shit and the election of these morons only demonstrates that further.

Absolutely! Obviously America didn't want Kamala & the Democrats "progressive" politics!

Yep!

Thanks for this. I didn't know the Senate rules and follow these kind of threads for education.

So it's not just sexism then? Do you think that issues such as abortion, which are a central concern in other countries - are less important there then?

I can understand the main worry about inflation after the egg crisis - it's the last cheap protein available

It's not sexism. There's some of that to be sure, but she ran a terrible campaign and never focused on the issues that in poll after poll the American people were saying were more important.

Americans are split on abortion. Most are okay with it up to a point, but Harris ran on abortion up to the day of birth, which is way further to the left than all but the most rapid leftists.

BlastedPimples · 06/11/2024 06:35

As for sore losers, didn't Trump try and stage a coup on 6th January?

Goodness me.

It’s called democracy. Why don’t you try teaching that to your students ?

We all know teachers are mostly a bunch of lefties, that’s why we are seeing kids who think they are cats, boys who think they are girls, girls who think they are boys, others who can’t make up their minds what they are.

Canalboat · 06/11/2024 06:37

We’re witnessing the death throes of American world power now. The problem for the rest of us is the inevitable power vacuum and who will fill it.

What a load of nonsense.

I’m also a British teacher and I will today get on with my job as I normally do and my teens will come in and sit through their lessons as they normally do.

Even though I am pleased with the election result, it doesn’t make me racist, xenophobic or misogynistic. Neither will it for the majority of students.

If any students do behave in an unacceptable manner, they will be shut down as they would be normally and there are consequences.

You are being melodramatic and not very sensible.
