Looks like Trump could win?

It's looking good for Trump. My dad is a total Trump hater and has been convinced that he won't win, especially since Kamala took over.
I don't know how the system works but is it too early to say that Trump is going to win?

Nettle, don't you find any element of Project 2025 worrying? Pulling out of Israel & not helping Ukraine? Denying climate change? Plotting the overthrow of the state? Lack of social security benefits & health insurance? Repealing sexual orientation discrimination & opposing gay marriage? Project 2025's strong far right Christian leanings & plan to bring the rest of gov under Presidential control? Hopefully, most of it'll be watered down, but qs remain.

I'm genuinely confused this time. Why???

Up until this point I have only rationalised it by thinking that the majority of the American population must simply be uneducated and/or stupid. But I am starting to think there is something else I need to be aware of.

Can anyone explain to me why Americans have voted this way?

Genuine question- and at this point I'm honestly willing to listen and learn, because obviously the Democrats are getting something majorly wrong that I'm just not aware of. How can they have failed so badly as to warrant at Trump victory?

This is very depressing 😥

Nobody shot Kamala in the head while she was campaigning.

Shooting a presidential candidate is not a good look

HelmholtzWatson · 06/11/2024 06:24

Trump win is obviously terrible, but the Dems only have themselves to blame. They parachuted another terrible candidate in who wasn't even good enough to make the primaries in 2020. If they had just selected a solid candidate and dropped all the identity politics nonsense, they would likely have won.

This time 2020, Trump was ahead. By morning, a very different story. It is far too early to call it over.

It was different because mail votes were counted late in 2020 but following changes to the rules they've already been counted now.

Even Kamala has given up with the way she left without speaking to her supporters.

But he was shot by a republican supporter.

Stupid Harris & abused Biden. Why are the Democrats such a shitshow? Why? & why did no Republican opposed Trump?

Glad I visited the US last year. I won't be going whilst he is in power. I don't feel safe as a woman visiting that country.

How utterly ridiculous!

Trump does not support that and he said this at the debate.

It's done! GO DONALD TRUMP!!! A question...will you sore losers accept the results of this election?

Lyannaa · 06/11/2024 06:26

What a depressing day for the world. What's the most worrying thing is whether Trump will move to change the law so that he carries on after this next term.

No, I think the lying morons you were all shouting for were going to do that.

EsmaCannonball · 06/11/2024 06:27

I've just woken up to this, not too surprising, news and all I can think about is Ukraine and the threat to the world from autocracies. The people of Ukraine are fighting and dying to defend democracy for us all, meanwhile the Democrats in America are so indulged and divorced from reality, so wedded to silly campus politics, that they think they can afford to play at elections.

Why didn't they jettison Biden earlier? Why didn't they hold primaries to find a serious and popular contender? Why did they devote all their energies to scolding people as racist and sexist when those people tried to point out that Harris was a lightweight candidate?

Fuck, fuck, fuck. The left of politics needs to stop playing around with adolescent, luxury beliefs and find its way back to addressing the world's real concerns.

Please tell me which policies of Kamala would make her a better president.

Every single time she has been asked about her policies, her only answer has been “Trump did this, or Trump did that. Not once have I heard “I would do…….”

Trump on the other hand has reeled off big, big plans, on economy, fuel, jobs, health, tax, security. So many realistic plans.

Meanwhile, Kamala has gone home to bed.

Thank God she can’t drag the USA further down the road to ruin.

I actually hope you’re right. I don’t think you are. But I would love to be proven wrong.

It would be wonderful if Trump managed to bring economic prosperity, new jobs, improvements to the healthcare system (for the average US American!) etc. A prosperous, save and stable US America would be wonderful and I would be incredibly pleased for the American people.

I do not think he will. But I’d love to be wrong on this!

AliasGrace47 · 06/11/2024 06:27

dottie, I hope not. But why didn't he shut it down sooner? & he said before that he didn't encourage rioting, when there's lots of evidence that's what he wanted.

@Iloveautumnwinterchristmas or start a resurrection like trump did 4 years ago you mean?

I just don't how anyone can think he is a good candidate for president.

Lyannaa · 06/11/2024 06:28

I know several Americans who refuse to go home whilst he's president.

America is a country where someone can get out of jail one week and run for mayor the next.

They don't. It's just that America still hasn't given up the populist bug yet.

Hmm well Spiders, there've been gender critical boycotts of stuff, & I agree w those. A boycott isn't just not acknowledging existence, it's normally trying to force business Change. Not sure how a travel boycott will do that..
But I get the anger behind it. I mean, Trump is going to pull out of the Gaza war, & Ukraine. He denies climate change. Is that really what we need? Not to mention he trued to overthrow the state 4 years ago, under the world's eyes.

Avoiding the US isn't about forcing business change for me. The Americans must choose their president, it isn't for me to try to influence that.

But equally I have the right to avoid a misogynistic culture, avoid exposing my DS to bigotry and racism, I choose to experience civilised and decent environments elsewhere. America excludes itself.
