Looks like Trump could win?

It's looking good for Trump. My dad is a total Trump hater and has been convinced that he won't win, especially since Kamala took over.
I don't know how the system works but is it too early to say that Trump is going to win?

I’m not being hostile! I asked, genuinely? I think however horrified leaders may be, they have to offer congratulations, it’s convention. I’d struggle with that.

I was merely reporting the Guardian, without agenda.

He said those things, not them things.

Diplomacy dictates you choose your words carefully.

It's mumsnet not a bloody essay thanks

Peregrina · 06/11/2024 09:36

They don't have to gush like Starmer did.

Quite a few of us. Perhaps you shouldn’t have called people uneducated and not being clever.

For all Trump is a Sex pest, it was the Democrats who legalised sexual exposure to women and children and prevented women objecting, introduced pornographic materials into schools and male rapists into women’s prisons.

Sex pest?

Quite a minimising term for someone found liable for sexual assault.

And who has also been accused of sexual assault and rape by more than 25 women spanning decades.

I'm not sure 'sex pest' is an appropriate description for a man with that history, are you?

I have to say the 'historic' felt like more than convention required.

He could have congratulated him on his 'election victory' rather than 'historic election victory', surely?

But the women and girls raped as a direct result of Harris/Biden policies don’t count?

Thank you, or perhaps I should say ‘fanks’.

Poor old Harry isn’t looking too rosy now is he?

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 06/11/2024 09:55

Also, the budget for the public sector just got a whole lot smaller - we will need the money for defence….

I don't understand - why aren't you happy with the result? Is this what you think happiness is, other people being sad? Why not look at a sunset?

Of course they do.

Where on earth did I say any rape victims don't count? I didn't. Don't put words in my mouth.

I said that describing Trump as a 'sex pest' is minimising. Hugely.

Don't you think it is?

Why is it some people find it impossible to discuss Trump's negative qualities without whataboutery about Biden / Harris / Democrats?

Surely it's not controversial or challenging to say that someone who has 34 felony convictions and has been found liable for sexual assault is not fit for office...

Sarah2891 · 06/11/2024 09:59

I despair. A country filled with hateful morons.

Now this will have interesting ramifications for the Brexiters, with their We don't want an EU army, we have NATO. In the UK I don't think we are likely to be directly attacked by Russia, but this is not true for E Europe and Baltic states.

I didn’t think he did gush. Say what you like about Starmer - I do - but he’s good at using language to say not very much.

Time will show just how historic this “victory” is, unfortunately.

Cnon · 06/11/2024 10:09

Harris winding up with 261 electoral college votes is presuming that the rest of those go to Harris.

Thes are things which they could have done at any point in the last 4 years?

She was campaigning against the policies they already had.

Absolutely, she was trying to campaign simultaneously as the “change” candidate whilst also being the continuity candidate who was in lock-step with Biden. Trying to be both made no sense and helped make her an unconvincing candidate.

And it’s precisely that attitude and lack of understanding which is why Trump won.

Tbf Starmer will be feeling the swing away from his side this morning and he really needs not to have a trade tariff landed on the UK

He may well gush to try and not fail on that

Trump may be an abusive, narcissistic sociopath, and I think a lot of people knew that but voted for him anyway, as they agreed with the direction that he wants to take the country… and that the election was far, far more than a “likability” contest.
