Looks like Trump could win?

It's looking good for Trump. My dad is a total Trump hater and has been convinced that he won't win, especially since Kamala took over.
I don't know how the system works but is it too early to say that Trump is going to win?

Absolutely, she had loads of celebrities like Paul Rudd out in colleges trying to keep students in line to vote. Pathetic. She needed so much "celebrity" endorsement & it got her nowhere. I'm delighted that Trump will probably win. I think it is wonderful for females that he had not been captured by gender ideology & has a very direct plan to stop males infiltrating female sports, toilets, changing rooms, prisons & all our protected female only areas.

What a stupid comment. Oh, you're worried about female sports are you? What about ALL female reproductive rights? Republicans have always been very much against women but I will still vote for them bc of this tiny non issue. It's idiocy like this that has gotten him elected, stupid people who can't see past one small issue and use that to vote against their own self interests.

Really he's right though people can see that he'd right only trump cultists can't

Against the tide of history.

So we can't feel sorry for women who will now potentially die, because other people in their country voted against the best interests of those women?

If a country majority votes for something, we can't feel sorry for anyone else in that country?

What a bizarre thing to suggest.

What is you feeling sorry about it going to do to actually help them though?

They only have the choice to move state now. Let's see how those states feel when all the young women choose to leave.

Same with Brexit. I didn't want that but more people than me did. They're only now realising the consequences of it but it's no use me feeling sorry for myself. You vote in democratic elections as a collective, not as an individual and you have to accept that as a collective, the country you live in has chosen this path.

He won, he's not eligible to stand next time and even if he wants to bust that he'll be 82 so he may not bother.

He can change the law.
He can also pardon himself from Federal crimes. There is a smidgeon of hope that he might still be jailed for crimes prosecuted under state laws.

How do you propose he will persuade Democrats in the House and Senate to vote to enable him to have a third term?

Against the tide of history.

First, so-called educated person. You're not very clever. I mean, a tide of history had people wanting Hitler to rule them in Germany still made them a bunch of fascists. So yes, lammie is correct about what he said about.Trump doesn't matter that majority have voted him in.He still a fascist, he wants to be a dictator that are his words. He has a list of the enemy of the people . Etc etc

His surname is Lammy.

The US remains a democracy - if you don’t subscribe to the process, then don’t vote, because presumably there is a chance you will not respect the outcome.

Secondly, the hypocrisy - Lammy said these things and yet will now bend over backwards to accommodate Trump.

Your views are your own but they run contrary to the 70 odd million who just voted for him.

You must respect that.

I started watching last night (bbc coverage) and the majority of voters for trump were citing the cost of living and how expensive food etc is under the Biden administration. Is it really that bad over there? Or do Americans not tend to look beyond their own borders to see that the cost of living is increasing in just about every other country as well?

By this logic, no one here should be complaining about the cost of living crisis? Because it’s happening all over the world? Yet people obviously do. Because it’s affecting them.

Food in the US is much more expensive than it is here. I was there last summer and was shocked at the prices for basics, like dairy, fruit and vegetables.

Presume it’s got worse since then.

?

I reported without comment.

Why the hostility?

I’m not being hostile! I asked, genuinely? I think however horrified leaders may be, they have to offer congratulations, it’s convention. I’d struggle with that.

Veryoldandtired · 06/11/2024 09:12

Problem is, Americans can say whatever they want in their election campaign and they won’t be held responsible. Trump’s populist approach have clearly won him the majority. Plus, clever campaigns all over social media exposing Harris’s lies (like changing accents, saying she listened to Tupac in college and saying that Christians should attend a different rally). I think it’s the general tide in the world rn. The only reason why Reform UK is not in power is our FPTP system… but wait a little longer and things will change here too.

A bit like people in Britain blaming the Tories?

I assume that if the Republicans get the majority in both houses then he won't have to worry about the Democrats opinion.

How do you think he will go about that? Chances are he will tell women that they shouldn't be playing sport anyway. Should be at home cooking and cleaning, so there will be much less professional female sport to infiltrate.

They won’t have a two thirds majority.

Isn't it crazy though that people would be more turned off by a 'lie' about listening to Tupac or someone modifying their accent... than a man with 34 felony convictions who has recently been found liable for sexual assault and has more than 25 other accusers of sexual assault and rape spanning decades?

Just clarifies that law are based on sex not gender. It is an easy fix.

Because he is allowed to lie. The rules don't apply to him, its a post truth thing where Trump can promise X and Y and Z and even though X,Y,Z contradict, the people that want X will assume he doesn't mean Y and Z but does mean X and so on. The worse he behaves, the more popular he gets but that wouldn't work for the other people running with him or the other side. The problem is, the Democrats needed to be absolutely spotless in order to compete but they kept falling into a trap of criticising him back etc. Either they looked offensive, or they looked scolding.

Farting · 06/11/2024 09:22

whathaveiforgotten · 06/11/2024 08:00

34 felonies
Found liable for sexual assault
Boasted about how he just 'grabs em by the pussy'

Hardly controversial so many people are upset someone the above applies to has been voted in, is it?

If the list above had been about Harris, Trump voters would absolutely have been saying there's no way she should be able to run for president.

He's sickening.

lol cry more

The lie thing is just for plausable denyability. They don't care about sexual assault and probably think the women were asking for it, but "Kamala's accent changed" is more socially acceptable.

He could remove the amendment to Title IX that Biden introduced on his first day in office that destroyed women’s right to equal opportunity, privacy and fairness.

We're not far behind.

https://literacytrust.org.uk/parents-and-families/adult-literacy/

16.4% in English, 26.7% in Scotland, 12% in Wales, and 17.4% in Ireland score below the lowest level for reading (although how that level is defined varies).

The general guidance for information leaflets is that the average reading age in the UK is 9-11.

Quite true. Our recent voting history also reflects this, I think.

TrumptonsFireEngine · 06/11/2024 09:30

For all Trump is a Sex pest, it was the Democrats who legalised sexual exposure to women and children and prevented women objecting, introduced pornographic materials into schools and male rapists into women’s prisons.
