Looks like Trump could win?

It's looking good for Trump. My dad is a total Trump hater and has been convinced that he won't win, especially since Kamala took over.
I don't know how the system works but is it too early to say that Trump is going to win?

Americans think Trump is the best person to run the country out of a population of 334.9 million? Average intelligence is clearly a lot lower than I have given them credit for. I'm embarrassed for them.

This is not good news for the rest of the world.

I'm not 100% sure but I think a president can only serve 2 terms. But given that the Republicans will control both the Senate and the HoR maybe he can change that? And then of course there's Vance, who is a whole lot scarier.

The US constitution would need to change for a president to serve more than two terms. That would require 2/3rd majorities in both the House and Senate, and 3/4 of states to ratify. That just won’t happen - I don’t think that even Trump will want to serve a third term.

His ‘speech’ is nonsense. He can't string a message together. Rambling, bumbling, embarrassing.

All makes sense and you are a sore loser!

Well said @Lougle - it’s daft to paint US voters as somehow thicker than the rest of us, because we’re no better academically.

I’m totally surprised at the result and intrigued about the reasons behind it, esp non-white voters seemingly turning out for Trump.

I do remember everyone shouting about it being the end of civilisation last time he got in and it in the end it wasn’t particularly - a bumpy ride ahead though as someone said above.

Non-whites on average are a lot more religious compared to other Westerners. I once stumbled on an American black conservatives group on You Tube and they were very against gay marriage, gender ideology etc. Trump told Christians that if they voted for him this time they wouldn’t have to vote again.

That’s why while other Western countries might go toward the right on issues like immigration, they won’t go as far as Americans because of the absence of religion.

It's because the atlernative is much worse.

It's really fucking simple.

Do you know what any of her proposed policies were?

I do actually she was gonna stop proce gauging by supermarkets that have put prices up for no reasons. She was gonna help you find people buy houses give them help. She was gonna make it like they have done by making insulin 35 dollars a month not 800 as it was to other health care things to help Americans

Livelovebehappy · 06/11/2024 07:43

Well done Trump. Harris would have been a disastrous decision, and fortunately America realised that her leadership would have been ineffective, and the next four years would pretty much have mirrored the achievements of Biden - zilch. The world needs someone strong in charge of America in the current global climate, where rogue countries are taking the piss and flexing their muscles, in part due to the weak leadership in America. Harris’s campaign consisted of her rolling out her celeb friends - why she would think people are such idiots that they would think these people were representative of their life’s, their struggles, their challenges, was a dumb move. Likewise Trump bringing in Elon Musk.

It’s precisely that arrogance and condescension that has helped Trump to win. The more progressives look down on those who disagree with them as inferior, the less likely they are to win power.

BlastedPimples · 06/11/2024 07:44

@tamade "Yes Russia invaded Ukraine, but was that the start of history? Did Putin wake up on the morning of the 22nd of Feb 2022 and decide to invade Ukraine?
Or were there other events a timeline of weeks, months, years or decades leading up to Russia's demands and then invasion?"

I'm sure Putin planned it a lot before Feb 2022.

Invasion of a sovereign country is not justifiable.

But you carry on trying to justify the indefensible. You'll be a doing a lot of that over the next four years. Good practice.

My sil who is undocumented (overstayed her esta though she is married to an us citizen) thinks he is right on the issues... like apparently he will make food in America safe again and she wouldn't need to buy all her groceries from whole foods.

BlastedPimples · 06/11/2024 07:45

Will Kamala try and stage a violent coup? Like Trump did.

To be fair to the senile old man, he just got his words or sentence mixed up. He should have stood down 2 years ago, but his disgusting wife let him continue to be wheeled out despite his mental inability to make a coherent sentence.

His wife "let him"? What makes you think she had any say in it?

notbelieved · 06/11/2024 07:46

So..what does this mean for NATO? Because if Trump is pro-Putin, and won't support Ukraine...where does that leave NATO?

I don't mind admitting I feel frightened right now. What does this mean for the world?

TwoCreamEggs · 06/11/2024 07:46

I feel physically sick hearing the news this morning. Deeply, deeply worrying not only for people in USA but for the entire world.

I am appalled that a man of his low morals and with a criminal background is about to lead a country.

Very scary for the world.

What is wrong with people?

Because people didn’t want Harris and he was the only other choice. It is a weird argument to run to say you have to vote for someone nicer even if you hate most of the policies. There was a choice of only 2 candidates!

Trump is likely going to put tariffs on us - so how are the rest of us in the going to be better off with his leadership?

He’s no puppet to Putin. Putin is on record as disliking Trump. The Ukraine situation has gone on far too long. Something needs to be done rather that people just watching from the sidelines, throwing in a few weapons here and there. It’s a disgrace that nearly two years down the line the battle in Ukraine is still going on.

SomethingFun · 06/11/2024 07:48

I don’t think people living in a country that voted for and had Brexit and had about 15 Tory Prime Ministers in the last few years can say anything to anybody about the intelligence or morals or not of the voting public. Ultimately most people are selfish and vote in their own interests and that’s all there is to it.

Ukraine was part of a Soviet Union, when I was a kid living in Communist Czechoslovakia.
Feminism wasn't talked about and wokeness was unknown.
Do you know what? I had a good life there, and life went on.
Hopefully, America can start healing now.
Trump should be a bit younger, though, to make a proper difference.
Only regret I live in the UK, under this current establishment.

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 06/11/2024 07:03

I think this is right.

Ordinary folk are tired of being lectured to,
and looked down upon.

Brexit was a function of that and now Labour have adopted a similar air of superiority- do as I say, not do as I do.

Meanwhile, tax and spend is deeply unpopular- most hardworking people want less government,
not more.

This is exactly it and people double down.

It’s really hard though because when someone is so blatantly ill informed about stuff it’s hard to connect with that in a meaningful way without sounding patronising.

Like the immigrants eating pets stuff, just as one example. How do you challenge that without pointing out that it’s ridiculous, it’s a total lie, it’s being said to stir up hatred and disharmony by the bloke who they think has got their back.
