US Election - following the results

I'm really trying to stay up but I'm going to struggle and suspect I won't know anything more than I do now anyway.

The FT have a very pleasing graphic showing all the results come in.

I'm watching the BBC too but it's not as clear.

Where are you keeping up with the results and what are you looking out for in particular?

Georgia think they're going to declare imminently which is a bold statement, I can't see how they'll manage it.

I am staying awake until Georgia.

rewilded · 06/11/2024 01:20

The Times call Trump - what about FT?

I'm going to bed now but going to listen to the radio until Georgia results come through. Don't think it's worth staying up all night, given that there probably won't be a clear result even by the morning...

SunMootStars · 06/11/2024 01:23

Me too - will stay up for another while hoping to see the Georgia result.
Looking very red at the moment...

I was staying up but can't imagine I'll know anything definitive

I'm watching on NBC. It's way too early to call it, but it doesn't look good. 😬
Right now they're discussing both a gender gap and an education gap in voting. College educated women are mostly for Harris, which makes sense.

I remember reading they projected Harris last week but can't see an overall projection now.

The current states projected results are all almost guaranteed though so no surprise there.

Georgia (16 pts) will hopefully declare soon so that I can go to bed. Got work in the morning but I’m wide a-bloody-wake!

They've counted 50% of the early vote and Trump is ahead by 10% so far according to the BBC.

I think it will be Trump.

The Dems are talking about a very high turnout in Pennsylvania being good for them. I beg to differ. That's exactly what we said for Brexit on the night and it turned out to be a bunch of people who were off the radar and never vote who turned up for a grievance vote.

Trump has an easier job in terms of not being the incumbent and can motivate in ways the dams can't.

Social media has been all about the voter fraud and broken voter machines in Pennsylvania and the rural areas have turned out.

I think Harris really has to take Pennsylvania to win. That's where she wins or loses the election. I don't think she will do it without Pennsylvania. In theory she can but I think it's a lot lot harder for her.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong and when I wake up in a few hours time I'm not seeing that Sunderland moment playing out. But I fear it.

Unusual things happening favour Trump and that's what we are seeing in the very early stages in my opinion.

The fact this is being echoes by the NYT does not reassure me in the slightest.

The bell weather county of Pinellas in Florida is also leaning that way with over 80% of the vote last time I looked too.

Everything smells Trump right now.

Brace yourselves.

Good luck.

She’s currently looking good in Pennsylvania 🤞

Kibble29 · 06/11/2024 01:47

Are any media outlets calling the result yet?

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2024 01:47

The Republicans flipping seats in the Senate also doesn't bode well.

Anyway, I can't stay up tonight. So I'm definitely off to bed if I can draw DH to bed.

OhcantthInkofaname · 06/11/2024 01:49

Anybody got a spare bedroom? If I wake up tomorrow morning and we have Trump back I think I need to leave. However I don't think the true results will be for two or three days.

potatocakesinprogress · 06/11/2024 01:49

You don't need to stay up, it might not even be finalised at 8am UK time.

Motorina · 06/11/2024 01:50

I've been watching it. I've been saying for the past fortnight that I think Trump has it, and nothing I've seen tonight has changed that. Very very worried.

Pumpkinspawn · 06/11/2024 01:52

Trump looking good so far but it's very early. The Republicans are also doing very well in the Senate & house elections.

Motorina · 06/11/2024 01:53

Also the British system uses a piece of paper and a pencil, and I've never had to queue more than about 30 seconds. I'm listening to a congressman talk about many hour long queues and extended voting hours. Seriously, they know the number of questions on the ballot, and they know the likely turnout. Why can't they run the thing properly?

Kibble29 · 06/11/2024 01:53

Trump’s odds continue to shorten on the betting markets. Harris’ odds the longest I’ve seen in days.

He’s 3/10 to win, she’s 5/2.

Motorina · 06/11/2024 01:54

@Kibble29 - I've never placed a bet. Are short odds good for that candidate or not?

Livinghappy · 06/11/2024 01:58

It's looking more like Trump, with 2 mins until polls close
