Who actually likes fireworks these days?

I know this is another grumpy mumsnet thread, but does anyone actually enjoy fireworks? I feel like such a grump but I’m not fussed at all by them and haven’t been in years!

Love them

SugarIsHardtoAvoid · 05/11/2024 22:51

I love fireworks. Fucking hate bonfires though. Burning hedgehogs to death. :(

wowzelcat · 05/11/2024 22:53

I enjoy them and we set them off earlier in the evening for about 10 minutes on 5 November. We are about 1 mile away from any neighbours though, so I don't think bothering anyone. Enjoy the large displays as well.

Astridastro · 05/11/2024 22:53

I hate them with a passion. They’ve been going off every night for the past 3 weeks (oh and the day time too) probably will keep going until NYE now and any time one of the big two football teams win. I don’t know where people get the money for them.

I used to hate how scared DDog used to get, hated all the rubbish left over the next day, Oh then there was the stray firework that got caught in the gutter of a house close by and destroyed most of it by fire.

Organised displays if we must twice a year

Iusedtobeapenguin · 05/11/2024 22:54

I love fireworks and Guy Fawkes night, everything about it, the food, the bonfire, the whole tradition of it. Pet owners need to keep their pets indoors, play some calming music and remember it's only a few days a year. You can't please everybody - I don't particularly like having to step in dog mess left in the street, having muddy dogs jumping up at me in the park and listening to dogs barking constantly in my neighbourhood, but there you go 🤷‍♀️

MeanderingGently · 05/11/2024 22:55

I bloody love them.
Went to my first bonfire/fireworks show last Friday (1st) - fabulous. Ginormous bonfire and mega firework display lasting 15 minutes.
5000 people turned up, 3800 cars to get parked.....some travelled a long way for this display so clearly many people still like them enough to make the effort to see some.

GauntJudy · 05/11/2024 22:57

Seen one and you've seen them all 🤣 Haha I'm not that bothered about them, but it's mostly cos I associate them with going out in the cold, getting all muddy and not being close to a toilet - three of my least favourite ways to spend an evening.

I did some sparklers in the garden tonight and that was enough for me

CuriousRunner · 05/11/2024 22:58

Fireworks fill me with actual joy. All pets at home are supremely not bothered by them.

Screamingabdabz · 05/11/2024 23:03

Thousands turn up to displays so loads of people like them. They are one of the few affordable and PG nights out for people with a bit of spectacle and joy. It’s even more magical over a beach or lake reflected in the water.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/11/2024 23:06

Me! I do!

tobee · 05/11/2024 23:09

I love them. I used to be scared when I was a child and I'm still making up for lost time. Went to local display earlier and it was first time in ages it wasn't pouring or swampy with mud.

Sadly, they don't do the bonfire any more. And I miss that music means people no longer go "ooooh!" and "ahhhh!" 😁

JenniferandJuniper · 05/11/2024 23:09

I love seeing them, not keen on the very loud ones though. Proper Autumn time to me with the scent and warmth and crackle of bonfires and colours and shapes of fireworks.

QueenTweenandKingTeen · 05/11/2024 23:11

I absolutely love them. I usually go to a couple of events around November 5th, and nye fireworks too. My children love them too.

GiddyRobin · 05/11/2024 23:16

Absolutely love them. The village had a gorgeous display tonight and a bonfire, it was amazing. Folk music, dancing, a proper turnout. Love the smell that's in the air; it reminds me of being a child and baking potatoes or drinking lentil soup from a cup while we watched from the back door. Magical.

IkeaMeatballGravy · 05/11/2024 23:18

Love them! As do my veteran husband and my cat.

My DS was attacked by a dog a few years back and we have to dodge dog shit on a daily basis on the school run, so I struggle to care about some dog owners being inconvenienced for a few nights of the year.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 05/11/2024 23:20

I like them when I’m not squashed like a sardine Tryna watch them. We usually now go to a display where we can get seats due to DS disability. We didn’t go this year as DP had an event elsewhere and it’s impossible without the car to take DS due to crowds on buses etc. I don’t find them as entertaining as I once did. So if I don’t see an6 I’m not upset. I saw plenty from the freedom of my house, they were going off left right and centre tonight.

FloralGums · 05/11/2024 23:20

I love them.

5th November is a tradition and I hope it will continue . I do think with the state of councils finances it does seem a luxury to be literally burning money but I like that there are local displays and people do their own. Really wish it was kept to 5th November only in that it dilutes the tradition of 5th November. But no I’d not want to see the end to fireworks. And for kids they are utterly magical . And we need all the magic we can get .

QuintessentialDragon · 05/11/2024 23:23

Absolutely love them! I wish there would be more.

Smidge001 · 05/11/2024 23:27

LOVE them!!

Cheesecakeisntcheese · 05/11/2024 23:30

I can’t love them after seeing what they do to local birds. Honestly not being an arse it just saddens me so much.

So what’s that got to do with anything? Many things have existed since the dawn of time that have shit side effects.
