Is anyone worried what might happen if Trump wins?

My cogent argument is a substantial portion of Trump's supporters are well-meaning people who are uninformed, not well educated, and/or very dim. I don't think this is breaking news.

I think it is about having a different type of intelligence.

Some people are very good at picking up certain language and are quite good at memory recall for exams.

Some people may not have the quickest memory recall skills to use the latest/best language and pass exams, yet have far superior critical thinking skills.

I don't like Starmer and we have to tolerate 5 years, we have nowhere to move to. I can't understand why those that hate Trump don't just move to a blue state?

You could move to Scotland or Wales.

They are worse, thus there is nowhere to move to.

In your view nothing will ever be worse. For me it was blown out of proportion and weaponised for every single debate against the unacceptable behaviour of the Democrats. If you ask me deranged people attacking and assaulting others and delaying planes just because someone has a different political view. it is pretty bad. Specially coming from the high moral ground side. All of this is the fault of their leaders and the campaign purely based on bashing Trump and his followers.

Agreed. I never said it wasn't.

For me it was blown out of proportion

For you, maybe. Not for the vast majority of people, unless they are Trump supporters.

swiftieswoop · 05/11/2024 13:44

My prediction is Trump will win but it will be tight enough that we're hanging around ages waiting for confirmation, still a tiny bit hopeful, while they're already celebrating.

CranfordScones · 05/11/2024 13:44

Won't stop the simpletons who stand in the crowd and hold up placards to abolish the monarchy whenever the King is at a big event. Even if Trump loses, it should be a lesson for those who want to destroy anything that works in the name of some nebulous concept of 'fairness'.

My money's on a Trump victory, btw.

A forelock tugger. How quaint.

He won before. Doomsday didn't happen.

There weren’t wars in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza/Lebanon, then. The implications of a Trump win are awful for both.

Would these wars have been started if he had continued his presidency? We'll never know but they started and continued under a Biden/Harris government didn't they?

Again it is all about opinions and perceptions. Hopefully everyone can still express themselves without being assaulted for their views. I would have been pretty pissed off if my plane is delayed two hrs because a Democrat decided to start a fight against someone wearing a MAGA hat. Nothing to do with Capitol and more to do with Biden calling Trump supporters garbage. The division and polarisation is from both sides, however, only one is vilified.

I remembered Biden campaign was all about bringing people together. It is disgraceful!

I suspect with Trump there will be a war in Europe and one in Taiwan and with Harris a war in the Middle east with maybe a slow overall communist takeover of America via China and South American.

I don't think even Trump himself would suggest most of his supporters have critical thinking skills. They like his vibe.

I don't think those voting for Trump all love the man, they just think he is the least bad/ best option, hence they though through the consequences for their family.

Trump has a lot of well educated, wealthy supporters. I wouldn't tar them all as knuckle draggers.

Grammarnut · 05/11/2024 14:11

I am equally worried about what will happen when the ultra-woke Ms Harris wins. She will follow Biden's trans policies and his nutty ideas on Ireland too, possibly.
Glad I do not have to vote for either of them.

ontheturn · 05/11/2024 14:11

I know otherwise perfectly reasonable people
voting for trump purely based on their financial interests

I think you need to understand the scale of what you are suggesting. The USA is vastly bigger than the UK. Let's say you lived in deep red Republican Arkansas. There are two things you really need to understand.

The first is that Arkansas is 53,179 square miles big. That relatively small state alone is bigger than England. To move to a blue state from Arkansas, the closest is either Colorado, New Mexico or Illinois depending on where in the state you live. At the very least, moving to a blue state is akin to moving to France in terms of distance. So moving is a big undertaking and would make it very difficult to pop around to family. Also, outside the cities, this vast country is not very well connected so it could take an incredibly long time to visit relatives if you live in rural Illinois and they live in rural Arkansas for example.

Also, another aspect of vastness is that each state has counties and a red state might still have deep blue counties. For example, Pulaski and Jefferson counties in Arkansas are solidly blue and are vastly more populated than most other counties in the state.

One final point is that red voters tend to be much more spread out. Cities tend to be blue and rural areas red. So you don't really have to deal with the Trump yokels too much in the cities unless he turns up for a rally and they flock to see him.

A communist takeover of America?? Hahahaha!!!

ruffler45 · 05/11/2024 14:17

Harris will just be the puppet on a string for the democratic puppeteers...

She has not been visible for the last 4 years until a few months ago

thepariscrimefiles · 05/11/2024 14:20

Outandinbout · 05/11/2024 12:53

@Ujustcantandwont But the world is definitely a different (and worse) place since his last presidency and my personal opinion that he stokes an atmosphere of hate and division which will absolutely not help matters

But so are the democrats. This positioning of Trump, and by extension his supporters, as Nazis by the Democratic party has been truly shocking. This is childish rhetoric. The man is a complete arse, but he is not a Nazi. No wonder lines get so divided politically in America. It I was a light, wavering Trump supporter, being told I was a Nazi would turn me into a much more stringent Trump supporter. Insulting people with hyperbole tends to have that effect.

Things need to calm down in America so that people can start to understand each other, and humanise each other. If half of American votes are voting Trump, there are clearly reasons why. They are clearly not all thick or nasty. They will have legitimate reasons for their vote, just like Harris voters do.

It's all the generals who worked with him in the White House during his presidency that have called him a fascist. They confirmed that he also said that 'Hitler did some good things' and that he wished his generals were like Hitler's generals. General Milley said that Trump was 'fascist to the core'.

The media then asked Kamala Harris if she agreed with what the generals were saying about Trump being a fascist and she said yes.

Trump has said many more insulting and untrue things about Harris.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/11/2024 14:20

Exactly - and if he wins the sun will still rise tomorrow and everyone will soon get back to speculating about something else

IMO the competitive "OMG what will he dooooo" is getting a bit silly now, but at least this bit will shortly be over

dottiehens · 05/11/2024 13:00

Oh yawn! 🥱 but that is the point. The virtuous high moral democrats are never like that. I think you find they have become much worse.

Tell us something worse than storming the Capitol that the Democrats have done.

I didn't at all. I said, in response to a poster pointing out all his supporters are not like Trump himself:

Yes, some of them are just really very dim.

It is also worth noting that a vocal number of Republicans are so disillusioned and disgusted with Trump and Trumpism they are voting for Harris.

MulderitsmeX · 05/11/2024 14:25

I think it will be Harris, I just can't see Trump being voted in again. Harris is not my ideal choice (I would have liked to see Stacey Abrams become VP back in 2020 as I think she would be an excellent president) but she's also better than Biden
